Okay Mcky, my setup.....
Mackie-1604-VLZ Pro
DOD-SR 231 Equalizer
BBE-462 Sonic Maximizer
Beringer-multigate pro, model XR4400
DOD SR 823-active crossover

I have been using my system without all this stuff in this rack, only been using the Macke. Actually, not sure if the local techs will use all this stuff, or if it all can be used for karaoke. I got it from a friend, who used in in a band a while back. Kind of excited about the mx-200, hooked in with the rest of it, but I am understaning that I really should have compression too?
My PA system is a matrix,B-52, 2000 , compuhost, and 2 others for programs.
There also is a Mackie amp, FR series M-2600, but since the b-52 is powered, I hav'nt used it.

Rereading my message, hookups don't seem clear. It all depends on the mixer, but I will pretend that I know that it is a Behringer 1222FX. If you are going to use effects and compression from separate units:

MDX*600 compr. input one: From grey TS cable of the insert
MDX*600 compr. output one: From red TS cable of the insert
Mixer channel 1 insert: From black single TRS of insert cable
MDX*600 compr. input two: From grey TS cable of the insert
MDX*600 compr. output two: From red TS cable of the insert
Mixer channel 2 insert: From black single TRS of insert cable

MX200 left (mono) input: From 1222FX "FX Send" output, T(R)S patch cable
MX200 left/right output: To Channel 7 and 8 inputs, 2ea T(R)S patch cables

To set the program, turn the preset knob (right-hand side) so that 1 appears in the window, then press to set.

To increase the amount of effects, vary the FX send (normally should be -5db to 0db) and the channel 7/8 fader (to taste). I like the "Big Pop Vocal" preset #1 on the MX200 as the default karaoke effect.

If you only have the MX200, and want to try using it for compression and FX:

To select the preset, move the right-hand big knob until 27 appears. To change the amount of effects, play with the middle three knobs and listen. If you want to go back to the original, just press the preset
load knob again.

If you don't have a mic insert, then all you can really use is compression on the entire output, which is not as good as vocal-only compression but is better than nothing.

Mcky, thanks for your reply, but..are you saying that I don't need a compressor with my setup? This stuff is over my head, but I plan to take a printout of your advice to the local people trying to help me out here. If you do think I need compression, what would you suggest? Thanks,Ron

I have a tendency to confuse people by giving them too many options. With your setup, I would think you want it.

dbx 266XL is a good unit.

I missed this post. I would put in the rack:

Mackie-1604-VLZ Pro
Lexicon MX200
Behringer MDX1600 compressor

The main signal chain is:[pre]
Mackie-1604-VLZ Pro LR out to 1/2 in
DOD-SR 231 Equalizer 1/2 Out to A/B in
BBE-462 Sonic Maximizer A/B Out to LR in
B52 Matrix 1000[/pre]
You don't need the gate -- this stuff is complex enough as it is. And you don't need the crossover because the B52 matrix handles that. The amp would be nice for a monitor speaker.

Then you go to the hookup diagram of the Mackie mixer, on page 6:

The compressor will plug into your channel 1 and channel 2 mic inserts on the Mackie mixer, as I showed above and is shown in the diagram. The Lexicon will come off the Aux3 send and return in the Aux 3 return as in the diagram (shown as "Mono in/stereo out reverb"). You adjust the Aux 3 output on the mic channels to about 1 oclock, and turn Aux 3 on the music channels down all the way. Then you adjust the Aux 3 return to determine the amount of the effects coming back from the Lexicon.
