I'm sure you missed it, because the thread has now been deleted, but I don't think KS is the place for me, so I won't be checking back. I know I haven't been here long and I usually hate when people "announce" they're leaving a board, but some of you I dig and would love to stay in touch. So, yeah, if you want to stay in touch, shoot me a PM. I'd love to hear from you.
Take it easy, all. Happy singing!

Swirl.....
I was hanging out, and I did read the thread in it's entirety.
There have been SO many differences of opinion here, and SO many that were worse than the one that went on today.
It's hard sometimes to be civil when discussing things like politics, or religion, or heaven forbid.... playing filler music at gigs.... I was honestly about ready to give you each a set of dueling pistols and tell you to pick a corner of the forum and take 10 paces.... But it wasn't my argument, and I figured I best keep my smart mouth out of there lest I make it worse.
Yeah, dumb things can be said, and words thrown back and forth, and it can get ugly. But the good here at KS far outweighs the bad. Don't take anything said here personal. Leave it at what it was- a very strong difference of opinion. Absolutely nobody here (that I know of) is going to look down on you for sticking to your guns and standing up for your personal beliefs. EVEN the person you were arguing with, who strongly believes in people standing up for themselves.
I'd let it wash, give it a day or two. This isn't the first, nor will it be the last, heated argument here in the forums. (i've lead a few of them myself... and ended up being friends with most of my partners-in-disagreement... the others?... I just ignore and go on about my business)
But you're a valuable member here, people have respected your posts and opinions. Just let it slide off your shoulders, things will have calmed down by tomorrow.

Well, when I left for a day on the water earlier, I stated that I loathed politics, and I don't base my friendships on peoples political beliefs. Now I see that everything has been deleted, could'nt have been anything I said, could it?

Sorry for any displays of really bad manners. It's not usually like that around here.
Take care!

YES!!!! And I hope your HAPPY with yourself!!!!!
Nah, it was another member and Swirl, not seeing eye to eye. I'm not gonna post it all publicly since the mods deemed it necessary to pull the thread... and I wasn't involved in the argument, so it's not my place to talk about it here. I answered your PM though.

No idea what's gone down - but the forum seems to be ridiculously aggressive over certain issues - maybe tougher moderation is needed?

DJ I publicy apologize and if I hurt anybody's feelings ditto but here is a PM that I sent Boatman which I will share with all. This is how I feel.. This is my story and I'm stickin to it. The link is forum

Quote: A few of us can get into a knock down drag out fight and wind up buying each other beers and there are some that their feelings get hurt. This forum at times seems like a kids forum and I've always felt it is regulated too much. A lot of the oldtimers are gone. I am used to adult forums like this You will have to register but visit the dragon cave. They will eat you alive in a heart beat. Very Happy Glance at the stats in the bottom they always have about 150 regs and 150 guests online. sometimes 1000 total. This forum needs to grow up.. The trolls they have trouble with here does not exist on other forums. Maybe this was his first experience with a drunk rednek.. 2 Ollie

Swirl, here's another who hopes you stick around. I missed the action so have no idea. But I don't hang out in the lounge much.
Anyway, you represent an important viewpoint from a part of the country that's needed to give the forum some breadth, and I've always found your posts enjoyable and informative over in General.
There are forumites who delight in posting in an inebriated state and I would advise you to approach them the same way you approach a drunk on a barstool. In a bar the level of engagement is set by the one most sober and no one thinks badly when that person breaks off the discussion. In fact, the one who walks away is always the winner in the minds of others present.

IMHO tougher moderation isn't the answer. Some people need to develop a little tougher skin or avoid discussing certain subjects such as politics. The discussion in question wasn't all that bad, in fact it was mild compared to many I've participated in on other forums. Some people need to just lighten up some and not take themselves so seriously. Just my two-cents worth.

Well, here's the deal:
The discussion with karyoker wasn't the catalyst, it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Far too often there have been discussions here and it seems like there's a certain mindset that's been looked down upon by a great number of regular posters. Like, if you don't run your show a certain way, it's wrong. I and others have butted heads with the majority on occasion and it's just irritating. I don't understand why people with differing viewpoints can't discuss them instead of having to argue about them. The political discussion just seemed like more of the same.
My viewpoint is pooped all over, and when I come to defend it, I'm told I'm an irresponsible brat with no respect for elders. This I can handle, because well, it's the drunken warblings of a crotchety old know-it-all. Whatchagonnado? I stated my case in a calm, rational and intelligent manner. What I got back was, "F*ck you." What really hacked me off was that there are people that chime in with, "Hey, I'm right there with ya" or "I totally agree." Then he says something about balling up his fists at me, and posts his number for me to call him, and if I don't I'm not a man? And I'm supposed to be the immature one?
This guy's rantings are belligerent, ill-informed and insulting. And he has fans, which makes it all the more infuriating. I get PMs all the time from people when I make a post saying, "Hey I agree with you, but I don't want to say anything because I don't want to get the beat down" or whatever. Sad and disappointing that people feel they can't speak their minds here unless they follow the herd.
And the final straw was that instead of a mod coming in to maybe try to calm the tides, the thread is just summarily deleted with no word whatsoever to those involved. So no one gets to see what a jerk this guy was being, and I just get to look like the crybaby who wants to take his ball and go home. That kind of moderation sucks, in my opinion, and I'M not afraid to say it.
I'm not looking for an apology (because let's be honest, the one above is back-handed and condescending), sympathy or any of that. I'm a big boy and my skin is thick as a rhino's hide, thanks. I just wanted to bow out gracefully from a place I didn't feel at home without further incident, and try to keep in touch with some of the folks I dug around here. Call it taking the high road, if you will. That's all.
Peace be with you.

Oh well, you can't win 'em all. You win some and you lose some and some end in a draw, that's been my experience. Peace.

I think some folks need a breath-o-lizer to blow into before they are allowed get on the forum and insult and intimidate others. I have been witness to this on too many occasions for my liking and wish it was an option.
Alcohol only intensifies the anger in otherwise calm individuals. Perhaps those here that are subject to this sort of behavior while on alcohol should not frequent the forum during these periods of time.
Some folks can handle drinking and conversation and others cannot.
Whew! I've been wanting to say that for quite some time now and finally got it out.
Sorry to see you go Swirl

Here's a little refresher course in the KS forum rules. Maybe some have never even read these rules before. The complete rules page can be found here:
http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4722
Here's a short excerpt:
"You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this site have the right to remove or edit any submission at any time should they see fit."

Swirl,
I for one will greatly miss your participation.
Hopefully you'll come back after you think about this for a while.
I tend to ignore those that try to get my goat. I may spar off once but usually I'll just look at the post, and roll my eyes PHYSICALLY!
And yes, what you're describing has happened to me, too.
