Hey Dynomike...I see you're working in Puget Sound - where is/are your show/s at? Would love to pop in if you're within a decent driving distance.

I've tested all that have a demo and find I like Compuhost the best. Karma runs a close second if you're not reliant on filler music. But Compuhost has singer history so that if you get that one singer who only sings a small number of songs you can instantly load their songs into their que.

Hi Karen, I'm in the kent area, about 25 miles south of Seattle. I'm afraid thats quite a drive from the border
Stone, They say that 128 is CD quality, and it sounds pretty good to my ear. I ripped a lot of stuff at 128. If I ever re-rip I will use the highest bit rate possible Hard drive space is so cheap, why not go for the absolute best quality

I dunno about the Karaoke standard but all my regular cds are ripped at 320, and I can't play any respectable zized hall with anything less than 192 because you can tell right away that the sound is low quality. It seems 128 is petty good for Karaoke and the JB 199s have all its files at 128.

I think 320 is a good choice. Like I said "always rip with the best quality you can".
I now rip my regular CD's with FLAC (stands for; Free Lossless Audio Codec) you should check it out at their website. Although MP3 and WMA can be near (if not completly) lossless with the right bit rate.
The truth is, I seriously damaged my hearing with all those rock concerts when I was younger. I have to rely on others to help me with " serious audio discrimination" Its lucky for me that I sometimes even sing on key. I guess that makes me A typical Karaoke singer
I do love to sing Thank goodness for Karaoke

So I downloaded and tested RoxBox. Thought it did a pretty good job for me just fumbling through it. I haven't had time to play with compuhost because it didn't allow me to without reading any instruction manual, setup and use as roxbox did.
Anybody know what some of the major advantages of compuhost over roxbox are?

there are LOTS of computer karaoke programs out there. Some you pay for, others are free or shareware.
Clubdjpro, pcdj with it's karaoke plugin, Sax & Dotty's Show Presenter, MTU's Hoster, Winamp by itself with it's own karaoke plug-in, I think Power Karaoke has a player, karaoke builder has a player (although I'd never recommend it for a show!), karafun... do some reading on here in other threads in the Tech forum, and you'll see where folks have talked about them in depth.

Yeah, I remember when I had to go to the library and find the right section to look stuff up; now if I can't get Mr. Google to tell me in two seconds I am like,"forget it. its too hard to find".

I'll be the FIRST to admit that the search engine on this site is a bit unusual!

So what do you guys do about the anoying humming noise that is a result (I guess) of pluging the power cable in and often puging in the external video cable to the tv. Does it only happen on laptops or it is a fact of life and one has to live with it. I heard that sound also when my friend was doing his thing on the Cavs JB 199s.
or maybe I am doing something wrong.

The problem is that even without the laptop power plugged in I still get that anoying hum from the big (@$%!) LCD TV that the system is plugged in (Video).

I always make sure the tv monitor's sound is at zero. That should eliminate the sound unless you are running sound through the tv, why anyone would do this is beyond me.

another thing to watch out for is that you don't have your computer system hooked up to the same power source that the monitor is on, or even on the same circuit breaker if you can help it.
These are all sources of hum noise!

I bought the $16 Radio Shack GLI and it works great. The hum is gone!

I picked up a Lexicon Alpha USB sound interface & the difference was night & day at the speakers. It is actually designed for recording but it works perfectly as a sound card. I can use it for recording as well, already dumping some of my old cassettes that aren't available on cd over. Comes packaged with Cubase & a Lexicon reverb plugin package. I am sure the Lexicon is awesome, I love their reverb. I might look at that. What kind of output connectors? HP uses a lot of NVidia chips, and prior to that ESS. No Realtek that I know of.
f you are still interested, it is on sale right now.

Again, comes with Cubase & a great Lexicon reverb plugin.
