Last minute decision for a wedding I'm doing fri. They want audio for the ceremony too. It will be outside. I would prefer to lapel wireless the groom but dont have one. I notice the shack has one for $50....Anyone ever used that one? Suggestions? I havnt done an outside event for years just a lot of karaoke that didnt require a regular PA setup .

I do have an audio technica T68. Would it work between the bride and groom and official?

I have done a few ceremonies with those cheap lapies. They do the job fairly well.
Just watch out for handling noise; don't let it be touched once it is put on.

You will need 3 of those if you are doing wedding. Here in Malaysia they are about $20 US.

The outside is a killer. Inside, you can always hang a condenser.

I would suspect you could get away with the Shack mic, but it isn't going to give you the audio from the minister (or minister-like person) when you put it on the groom. Depending on the minister's experience, they may be comfortable holding a mic and putting their book on a music stand.

I suggest you talk to the minister and get their input. They will have a lot of experience and might help you a lot.

One more thing to remember; it may be a bit difficult to fit the mic and the transmiter on the bride.

Difficult to fit, but hey, you may get to touch her boobs ;)

Just kidding.

Be care ful with lapel mics. We all know that any mic you get what you pay for - I would say this is 100 times more true when dealing with wireless lapel mics.

You definatly get wht you pay for in a wireless lapel mic.

The lueast inexpensive I would suggest are from The Audio Techina 2000 series.

They are about $300 each. I use Sennheiser g2's.

For a very reasonable fee you caould rend 3 good mics from a music store. I reneted lapel mics once before I purchsed mine, they were $30 each for the weekend.

Why not go with wireless lapel, and in case there's trouble also use something along the lines of a Samson SB100 Studio Boom Microphone Stand (or some overhead boom) with the SM-58 wireless with a windscreen for better dispersion.

Actually since the bride and groom are karaoke singers we decided on traditional means (single wired mic)

The problem now is getting the gear across the foot bridge to the chapel area on the island. I am not joking. If you have Google Earth go here

Looking at that view - is that walkway not wide enough for a car? Maybe a kart? Trolley? Team of trained monkeys on skates?

OR:

Boat!

ROFL I hate weddings but this one is turning into an adventure... The bride and groom will be saying their do's on the same mic they have sang on for the last year. That didnt cross my mind... I need the garden tractor and lil trailer over at the farm...

I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it..

Put the lapel on the minister, he/she is usually in the middle of the action.

Couple of things to look out for. If you are doing anything outdoors, make sure you get a windscreen for your mic. They do have them for Lav mics out there. However, the problem is that photographers may not like to see a mic on their subject during the ceremony. Make sure you clear that with the bride (one who usually makes the decision) if that is OK. If that doesn't work, one alternative I can say is to get a boom mic and set it up on a tripod. It does pick up more noise but it may be worth it the trouble since you can get people with one shot rather than just the groom. Just be careful of the feedback.

Well the minister was used to all mics and situations and we used a 58. It went fairly well except I had to use the laptop to play the cd's and I was looking west into the sun. Next time I'll use a cd player..
When it was over we had to wait for the golf cart to haul back across and we had 30 min to setup for the reception. My partner could not handle it and stranded me. I am tired and have a gig tonight. Burnin' out.....

Here are some photos including nlouches boat. Clck on the + for full screen..All I wanted to do was go fishin'..

the bridge

boat

do's

Nice venue!

And, um, that boat is somewhat bigger than I had in mind...

"We're gonna need a smaller boat!"
