I say give the newbie a break. With only 39 posts I'm sure he didn't assume his enthusiam for his job would be taken so negatively. Time will tell if he is a braggart.
I do agree that you can't judge yourself by great singers solely, but not knowing him well I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and just assume he just had a good night and was excited to share. It would be hard to believe anyone would be so egotistical to think they had the best in the world.

I always thought my shows were the best , with better singers and better equipment. I always figured everybody else's shows were just worthless and weak. Maybe I'm wrong.

Im all for giving a break and welcoming someone new---so long as they dont come in here proclaiming they are the best in the world and implying that everyone else is second rate---for whatever reason.
Perhaps this can all be chalked up to over-enthusiasm and perhaps he is only very happy that his gig goes as well as it does and that he gets some skilled singers.
But again dont come in and proclaim excellence while implying that all the other HIGHLY SKILLED PROFESSIONALS here are of some lower category.
Sorry, I SIMPLY WONT HAVE IT.

TRUTH BE TOLD.
I go to MANY Karaoke shows. And ya wanna know a secret? The mix of singers is pretty much all the same---no matter where u go. Some really good, some medium, some horrible, some trying it for the very first time.
The differnces that make a show REALLY GOOD or below average are sound system and mix quality, fair rotation, personality and professionalism of the host and song selection.
Other than that there's not really too much that is different from place to place.
Sound, music and the host those make the difference.
Singers are singers whereever you go.
And as to barring "AZZHOLES"---do you mean overly-drunk troublemakers or you just bar those who are average, poor voices or beginner level???

I too have had really successful nights, when the groove was on and the flow was working. Singers were all better than average and a nice packed house. On one of those nights I too would have to think I had the best Karaoke, certainly among the nights I DJ'd.
There is a phenomenon amongst KJ's where we get caught up in our own egos about how great our shows are and how we each do it the best and how our way of doing it is best and we know all there is to know about it----we are the proverbial CAT's MEOW. I know I certainly have been guilty of it at times--letting my ego get ahold of me. And certainly we've had plenty of others come in here who had no
problem with publicly announcing that they are the best there is. And I certainly encounter it all too many times out in the field when I have to go to all these different shows. Ego and arrogance. All too common. Getting caught up in they're own thing.
When you come across a show and KJ who is gracious and without thd ego-trip----now THAT IS A GREAT SHOW!!

I was stationed at NAVCAMSMED at Bagnoli, at the AFSOUTH NATO Base in Naples, Italy for 4 years between 1983--1987. I was an ET-Communication Tech who worked on long-haul microwave telecomm systems.
Two of my kids were born at the Navy Hospital in Pozuolli and are dual-citizens.
While at Naples we travelled everywhere---my faves being Venice, Roma, Florence, Amalfi, Sorrento, Salerno, Paestum, Orvieto and Sienna. We liked to go to Geata to go to the beach and would take a train on a sunday morning to Roma for lunch and for an afternoon visit to the Vatican and Sistene Chapel. Got to go see an Easter Mass at the Vatican with Pope John Paul II holding service.
I had my AA Degree graduation ceremony with U of La Verne on the Island of Capri.
Took all kinds of weekend field study seminars around Naples and Rome.
One vacation we spent a week in Paris taking a field study seminar on Expatriate American Writers in Paris(1920's--Hemingway, F.Scott Fitzerald, etc). And visited Munich, Innsbruck, Naucshwenstein Castle, Oberramagau, Nice, Garmische-Partenchirshen, and Zermatt on the way back.
One of my work assignments allowed me to travel every quarter to Olbia, Sardina. Also have visited Ischia, Sigonella, Sicily and Cadiz, Rota, Malaga and Seville for work or training assignments or port visits while on board my ship.
Also visited Barcelona and Madrid on vacation.
So we got around while there. Refused to become a barracks rat.
Learned to speak Italian almost to point of fluency. That has been very useful in learning Espanol(since we also have a Salsa Dance club downstairs in the bar I DJ at---in fact I will be salsa DJ'ing next weekend Sunday for a benefit show there-buffet with roast pig and all the fixings--traditional Cuban setting).
So yeah I was stationed at Naples, Italy. Went there as an E-5 and left 4 years later as E-7.
And I would KILL to go back and live there again.
Have toyed with the idea of retiring there---or maybe go back there and work-----wife as a DOD Teacher and me as Field Service Engineer Tech-----both opportunies exist in that capacity. Hmm maybe Karaoke DJ there too?????

Yeah, CostaK, good work
I viewed your post as a reflection of your enthusiasm for your show and as an assertion of YOUR opinion regarding the elements that comprise a "good night" of karaoke. Meanwhile, others herein and elsewhere in this forum have expressed what they think makes for a good show.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I say let CostaK bask; I took no offense. However, I wouldn't be proud of a show whose singers are "so good" they intimidate those who may feel that their singing is of a lesser caliber! Furthermore, I can't see how a host can take credit for how good a singer sings. Plenty of local shows here in S. Florida have great gear and every show attracts its share of "good" singers; some even with lesser quality gear
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and Metalgod, you're no god and YES you're wrong!

Kurt
You really do need to take a chill pill. The headline "I have the best karaoke in the world" was purely to generate interest. If I had put "What a great night last night" or something else in that vain there would have been nada response. Karaoke is a hobby something I enjoy doing.
There are alot of big egos on this site, I quite honestly couldnt be bothered if someone was a better singer or better KJ, I can only do my best.
From what I have seen, I am really good at what I do. I am not the best singer in the world (far from it) SO who gives a jot if someone makes a remark like
"I have the best Karaoke in the world"
Those that do, have an ego so big as to respond in the way you have Kurt.
You even had a go at my lack of publicity on the worldwide net until it was pointed out to you I had a site. I'm really proud of that site, but you still needed to point out there was a distinct lack of pictures.
Karyoker appreciate your remarks and any time your out this neck of the woods I would very pleased for you to come and stay with me and my family.
Karaoke for ever

Costa, I certianly dont need YOU or anyone else to tell me to take a Chill Pill--and Ill tell you and anyone else that directly.
And as to an overblow EGO---Im one of the lesser ego-driven persons here when it comes to Karaoke. I have to be because of the work I do with Karaoke when im not DJ'ing. I have to remain objective in my dealings with new KJ's that I meet. There are only a few certain cases over the years where Ive gotten into it with someone.
As to your website, as I recall---I certainely DID PAY A VERY STRONG COMPLIMENT both to YOU and YOUR WEBdesigner on the professional presentation and it's content, appearance and ease of navigation-pointing out that its one of the sharpest and well put together that Ive come across. Also I forgot to mention your two KJ Bios were well done too. That would be a nice item for other KJ websites to add. Many dont have that. I certainly havnent seen anyone else here bothering to pay you a compliment on your website. I will always give credit when due for superior work done.
In addition I do hope you pass that on to your WEBDESIGNER as I'M SURE they would like to know that they got a compliment on the high standard of thier work. Did u let them know that yet????
And yes it could use a few more pics---take THAT as some constructive criticism or a suggestion to make it even better than it is now. How bout some pics of inside the bar, your DJ set-up, your gear, maybe a songbook, things that pertain to you KJ'ing, people at the bar, the staff and some of the crowd and more singers??
If you cant accept a compliment and a suggestion for what they are and at face value, Then I would say it's you who need to take a chill pill and cool down and knock off the defensive tone.
Now if you had read my posts closely, I gave several outs---about perhaps this was just about being over enthusiastic about how well your gig went or is going. You didnt seem to pick up on those.
Gotta understand that if you come in with a BLANKET "HAVING THE WORLDS GREATEST" statement that some people are going to be on top of you and that you need to be able to take that heat. In this case it was me who got lit up. In other cases its been others who were FAR MORE VEHEMENT than I.

Well Eric your more than welcome to come check me out and my shows. And you will find out that metalgod is a fitting way to describe me and my voice. And my shows are indeed a cut above the rest. Probably explains my nice salary and standing room only shows along with celebrating my 10 plus years at the same venue. But I'm sure these facts would also apply to you and your shows.

now boys the way I see this is...
no-one likes a braggart or a skite...
someone else can say you have the best show in the world and that is ok, but for you to say YOU have the best show in the world wellllll its kinda like saying you are the best lover in the world yanno?
Now its not ladylike to admit to the number, but I have had my fair share of suitors and I have always measured them (not with a ruler or by rule of thumb...heaven help) but by how confident or over-confident they are.
To do this I put things to a simple test...I tell them I am very difficult to turn on.
Now I know absolutely NONE of you would make the fatal mistake of telling me that it is only becos I have never experienced your amazing skills...The few that did make that mistake were so busy congratulating themselves on their moves or checking their bod in the mirror stroke by stroke, that they overlooked the little x that marks the spot...end result...dont cum monday
What I am trying to say in such a diverse way is...dont brag too loud n long over anything, let others do it for you then and only then will you really know if you truely are the best
