I'm sure we all get singers who hand you their slip with $5 and a wink thinking it will goose their position in the rotation. If they haven't sung yet, I'll try to blend them in the rotation with others who have already sang but that's about the extent of it.
One guy came up to me last week, put a Lincoln in my jar and handed me his slip, which listed 4 girls who wanted to sing together. At that time my rotation was about 20 people. Ten singers later, I see him shoot me the bird from the dance floor. He comes up to me and says, "I want my $5 back!" Without hesitation I reached in my jar and handed it to him. No doubt he boasted to his pu**y posse that he could pull some strings to get them up quickly.
His posse comes up in rotation and I call for them to come to the stage. Nothing. Someone runs up to tell me they're in the bathroom. (Really? All 4 of them?) I move on with the show.
Three songs later, one of his posse runs up to tell me, "Someone told me you called for us?" (By then the rotation was about 30 people.) I replied that I usually don't put people BACK in the rotation if they've missed their slot. Exasperated, I added, "Especially after your boyfriend was such an a**hole to me asking for his piddly 5 bucks back!" She nodded as if she understood. Apparently she KNOWS her BF is a wanker. I put my hand on her shoulder and said, "But this time I'll put you back in because I appreciate YOU being here." Hell, it wasn't her fault her BF was an idiot.
Called them up in about 10 minutes and they did their song. The a**hole guy joined them on stage, but didn't sing.
About an hour later, Mr. Wonderful comes up with another slip for his posse. He said, "I'll give you $100 if you let them sing next." I told him he had to be joking. "No I'm not!" And he thrust a wad of bills at me. Sure enough, it was $100 in cash. Then he asked, "So when do we sing?" I took the bills and told him, "Next!"
My take is that his girlfriend went back and told him what I said about him. And he was trying so hard to impress her (get in her Levis?) that he decided to part with a C-note to be Mr. Big Man.
So here's my curiosity for the group...would YOU have taken the $100? And has there ever been a time you accepted a huge tip to let someone sing next? Or should I have just told the guy to take his money and eff off?

I would have told him I wasn't accepting slips off him - seeing as he acted like such a jerk.

Good man!
Seriously, that wouldn't happen often would it, so why not? So your rotation got delayed by 3-4minutes, you got $100, aforementioned wanker gets laid and the show goes on. Everyone is a winner!

Joking aside, if someone misses their rotation (ladies to do to the bathroom together and often),
I wouldn’t make them wait too long to get back up. Nobody else got screwed by them singing their number a couple slots later.
Jmho.

$100.00 for the next spot in rotation? Abso-friggin-lutely! I would have announced it over the PA so people understood why the rotation got switched around, but oh heck yes.

I’d do it, but it still isn’t fair, so I wouldn’t announce it.
I’d just do it and hope as few people notice as possible.

I like the idea that Lonman posted -- accept it, announce it, and use it to buy a round for the singers!

Why not. Depends on the situation and who i have on the list. But throwing some money in my jar definitely does not hurt their cause.

Call me old fashion but my answer has always been like Lonman's. "Buy the house a round and no problem." I been offered more and funny it happens more than you would think. Beside the place having it's regulars it gets a lot of out of town travelers coming through.
I always figure if I took the money I'm saying I can be bought. It also tells my regulars that "that guys money" means more to me than their loyalty. I've developed a trade mark of having the fairest rotation around. That has become worth more to me than the money. I find it odd that many times those who "participate" are also the same ones who have a hard time when our politicians do the same thing.
Sorry to get on my soap box. Don't look down or think bad of those who do; just throwing in my two cents.

Hmmm… what might a round cost?
Nice gesture, I suppose.

Depends if it's early or at "high Tide." Probably tare a $500 bill apart.

I don't know, I mean you can do what you like but the $100 buck bribe (and it is a bribe) makes it seem like you are a politician or worse. Certain ladies get arrested for "that" business.

I would never take the money, sorry. I don't wanna take the risk of losing my reputation of having absolutely fair rotations. That could cost me more in the long run.
I only took a $100 bill once... The guy asked me, to let his girlfriend sing next and gave me the bill. I looked on my CompuHost screen and saw, that she was next anyway. So no problem...

Miss conservative here would take it. . Lets face it, it doesn't happen but in a blue moon. In the past year I've been offered a $100 tip 3 times. Once I turned it down, once I got it from someone that didn't want anything in return and the third time I took it because the guy was up next anyway. I've gave it great thought about if it happened again. I think I would take it because in the big scheme of things it really would happen so very rarely I don't think it would hurt my rep. Now I may not put them up next, but explain it may be a few songs.

I have been offered $50 a couple of times, always by non-regulars and the boyfriends of the singers. In the interest of fairness I turned it down both times but shouldn't have. Other KJs in this forum have come up with a better solution... that is to split it with the next singer up. I don't think I have any that would turn down $25 in exchange for their slot.
If it ever happens again I'll announce it to the whole room so everyone knows what's up. Probably never will now that I have... this plan...

But you're not just screwing the next singer, you're screwing everybody else down the line until the person you let up early's slot came naturally.
And for those who took the money someone gave you for a bump, and they were up anyways, isn't that kinda like stealing? Kinda?
