If I went to any of my singers and said "You're up next. But would you be interested in taking $25 instead and singing at the end of the round?" I think they all would take that offer. But it would be up to them.
The following singer is still up in two, the next in three... so it doesn't really affect them. But I'd run it by the whole room.
Haven't done it yet so don't know for sure. Just a thought. Wouldn't it be something if it happened tonight.
Yeah... in my dreams.

Granted- I haven't run shows in a LOOOOOOONg time- but when I did- I made a practice of putting first time singers up - usually in the next 5 songs. When you said the 4 girls had not sung- I would have gotten them up fairly fast anyway....but back then 100 was half of what i made in a night- you bet your sweet azz I would have put them up... So I'd say- use your discretion. If it's someone that has sung numerous times or someone that JUST sang- I would have told them I could move them up a FEW slots but not next...any one other than that- and I would have made them next. And seriously- to those of you who GO to shows instead of running them...could you honestly blame the host for trying to make a little extra. I certainy wouldn't. JMHO

Yes I could. First off, most of us (karaoke regulars) wouldn't know that the KJ was handed a hundred dollar bill, but we would notice that something was up . Secondly, I/we would be P.O.'d that the KJ took a bribe to disrupt the order in which we would be singing (again... something that the karaoke regulars would probably take notice of). Thirdly, am I now expected to pay/bribe the KJ to sing when my turn is supposed to be coming up (for fear that someone else is gonna give the KJ a bribe to sing ahead of me)? And how much is the KJ willing to take???... $100, $50, $20???

Actually when did I say that???? If I did that at our club i'd be out of a job. I've turned down $100 offers before.

I only took a $100 bill once... The guy asked me, to let his girlfriend sing next and gave me the bill. I looked on my CompuHost screen and saw, that she was next anyway. So no problem...
This I did once. Guy kept asking for his girlfriend to be up next, I told him she had about 10 more singers to go. EVERY song he'd come back up & bug me, while I was talking announcing the next singers, while I was trying to listen & adjust the current singer & every time i'd tell him she is now 1 less than she was a minute ago. He started offering me money to get her up next, I told him no. SO he did that 3 or 4 more times, by the time it was actually her turn - even AFTER I told him she was next, he came up to me again & said $20 to get her up next, I said ok!

Say you get 5 bribes to bump them up next, well only 1 could go up next. I'd rather have my regs supporting me with knowing I am not going to screw their turn up. Besides my reputation is worth a lot more than $100! IMO!

I've been offered that kind of money. One time I knew the guy was full of baloney, and asked him to put the money in front of me. He wouldn't! !
But I had one dude... wouldn't let it rest. So I asked the bartender what would be the cost for a round of drinks... he did a quick tally, knew most folks were drinking beers, and gave me the total of $123 (or something similar). I asked him if he'd do it for a hundred even, and he said "SURE!"... he'd eat the profit a bit.
Told that to the singer, and said, "You buy a round for a hundred, and I'll put you up next."
He sang right after I announced the fact he bought the round! He got a roar of approval from the bar, and even the karaoke singers thought it was kewl!
I didn't make squat off it, but did get a couple tips afterwards from some non-singers! But I DID feel a lot better about how it appeared to my die-hards!

I thought it was you. See, your rep is so good here you get credited with *all* the good ideas!

! I think when I saw the original posting and didn't remember reading the quote was when I decided it was time for bed last night.
Since I don't have a regular gig except for our monthly parties, it would be fairly easy to accept. If I was working the same place and had a lot of regulars that supported me it might make it more difficult. Of course I might buy the singers a round rather than the whole bar and still make something off it. Just my 2 cents...

A few weeks ago a guy offered me a hundred bucks if nobody could sing Bon Jovi the rest of the night. I should have taken it , nobody else put up bon jovi. the owner of the bar told me that if somebody wants to throw me that kind of cash to take it and run.

I agree with the bar owner. As I patron I sure don't begrudge the KJ taking an easy $100 if somebody offers it to him. Hell, I think $20 is a good enough reason, and it would not bug me at all to have my song pushed back.
This kind of stuff happens all the time in our society, people tip for premium service. The bartenders are going to give extra good service to people who are tipping ridiculously well, and they should. Why karaoke of all things should be expected to be ethically above that is beyond me. Take the money.

As someone who does karaoke and has even filled in as host for a friends show, I would say one does not want to set that precedent. Now you have a guy who can get you to up a singer if he gives you money. Others see this and your show becomes a playground for the more wealthy among us who feel they can ALL buy their way into the rotation. The rest of your customers are going to go elsewhere.

Good point.
I think the scenario was that it was an extremely rare occasion, and an unusually large sum of cash (at least it would be to me), but you still have a valid point.
If I were a patron, and got bumped back repeatedly because people were tipping the host, I think I’d be genuinely upset,
and I agree it would definitely lose customers.

Sounds like lot of kjs here can be BOUGHT for as little as $100.
Not me....but i can be RENTED for as little as $80!
someone has to pay for these high energy costs and property taxes!
seriously though- i won't do it if it woulld pi*s off my regulars- i would have to share it with them somehow someway- probably by buying them a plate of 100 buffalo wings or an appetizer sampler most of them could dig into.
In the end management would like it because the amount of SALT in most appetizers wherever you eat, they'd more than likely order MORE drinks to wash it down.

As a singer/non-kj, I wouldn't be upset if a kj took a really tempting bribe. I might be a little annoyed, but if they were upfront about it,I would understand and wouldnt criticise them for it, especially if dj and / or kj work was their primary source of income.

unfortunately, you are not in the majority with the kind of singers that came to my shows... believe it or not, if I accepted a bribe like that, I'd have some seriously IRATE singers...
