Gotta say before i say what numbers i sang that I'm so grateful for ths list, i found a lot of great songs that over the pond we would never hear without mind boggling research.
Last time i was working, and there is no pattern to my list other than the songs tend to be off the same disk as the previous singer.
Mr Rock and Roll - Amy Macdonald
House of the Rising sun - Animals ( though i kinda do a Joan Baez version when i sing this).
Breakfast In America - Supertramp
Moondance - Van Morission
Animal - Def Leppard (duet with a another singer. . . i do one of the harmony lines)
Lady in Red - Chris De Burgh (request)

Got a few blank looks, although I thought these songs and/or artists were fairly well known. Last night I sang:
Con te partiro (Time to Say Goodbye) - Sarah Brightman & Amdrea Bocelli
Art Is Calling For Me (From "The Enchantress") - Victor Herbert
Harem - Sarah Brightman
The Phantom of the Opera
We'll Meet Again - Vera Lynn

Flubbed the verses a little, but nailed the choruses. Definitely adding this one to the repertoire... Holy crap, you're the only other person who has a show (I know of) that has that song! I gotta get out to one of your shows soon, maybe Furlongs? Do you have any others that might be closer
Hey catseye. Sorry I missed this from a month ago. Yeah, I'm a recovering metal head, so I pick up just about anything remotely metal.
I'm at Southgate House in Newport on Tuesdays. We get a pretty indie rock crowd in there. Good singers who like to try new stuff all the time, and they tend toward the obscure a lot, too, so it never gets tiresome.

Last night was my first karaoke night in a while. I sang 2 songs:
"Orinoco Flow"-Enya
"Sunny Came Home"-Shawn Colvin
I had never heard anyone do either of these for karaoke, so I wasn't sure how they would go over, but they went over well. (I often will deliberately pick songs that I've never heard anyone else sing for karaoke! That is, if I know and like them well enough to sing them, and if I think I can do it--a lot of songs are waaaaay out of my reach vocally...)

"Let My Love Open the Door"-Pete Townshend
"To the Moon and Back"-Savage Garden (LOVE this song--anyone else ever sung it?)
"Kiss Me"-Sixpence None the Richer

I tried a brand new song courtesy of a brand new disc, and it went over like a lead balloon. The crowd reaction was so bad, that I left immediately after the ensuing debacle (even though I know I performed it the way it was supposed to be). Is anybody familiar with this song:
"Alhambra" by Sarah Brightman ....... ???

I'm familiar with her, but not the song. I haven't heard any of her more recent stuff.
I know what you mean--sometimes the crowds just aren't responsive, no matter what one does...

I was intrigued by the Spanish-Arabic sounding name and looked it up on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjziiaMq8yA
It sounds like a nice song. Did you sing it in Spanish?
Sometimes you have to sing what your''re going to sing...and let the chips fall where they may! If the only one who claps is your Guardian Angel...sometimes that's life. But the response can definitely depend on the place you're singing at.
