Goodness Kappy......I didn't want your points, but thank you very much. Good luck with your singing country, I'm sure you can do it.

Ron.......... I have a titanium Campy Mountain bike (bought it off a competitive mountain biker) that costs more than most of these kids bikes, and I'm scared xitless of riding any of my bicycles on the road (have a few Cannondale road and hybrid bikes too- all shimano XTR on the road... But still... Falling the wrong direction after hitting a rock is all it takes to die around here.. I think I'm best off with at least a vehicle on FOUR wheels. Motorcycles don't get people killed, the riders do, guns don't kill unnecessarily but people that shouldn't have them can or might.. and liquor isn't what kills people, it just a means some that can't handle it use to expedite their own death.. Part of living is knowing OUR limitations, character, etc. That MUST be known as soon as one get's their license for ANYTHING that has a dangerous side, meaning even a car *at 16*..
Ok Kappy, heres one for you that you won't believe. We were talking about the kids being responsible and things to that effect. How about a driver, DRIVING the kids ?
Earlier this week, a local school bus got in the soft shoulder, swerved, and then lost control, plowing into the woods. Nine students out of 28 were sent to the hospital. Never guess what the driver was doing when that happened...TEXT MESSAGING !
That part hasn't been made public yet, but according to some students that were on the bus, thats what took place.[/quote
Text Messaging, isn't that what they are saying is the cause of the train wreck that just killed 25 people? Ron

I'm not sure if it's fact or speculation thus far.

"LOS ANGELES: Investigators of a Los Angeles train wreck that killed 25 people are looking into reports that an engineer blamed for missing a stop signal light may have been distracted by text messaging moments before the crash, officials said on Monday."

When the Babs is away the boys will play.
They were talking on the news about raising the driving age. I don't think that will help anything. I do believe they should raise the age for a motorcycle license though. These kids should get used to driving a car first. It is a safer way to make mistakes when you are first learning the rules of the road and how to look out for the other guy. I just cringe thinking about one of my daughters driving a motorcycle. I have an 18 yr old and a 21 year old. Neither one of them in my mind is ready for a motorcycle, but our fine to drive a car.

Welcome back Babs, I just thought we chatted so much we scared you off...
Ditto's on the kids on bikes. I don't want mine on bikes at any age, and I know that makes me a hypocrite... Ron

You could never scare me off. I just don't always have the extra time to check all the posts and reply.
We are busy right now trying to clean up my fiancee's townhouse to get it on the market. Go figure the water heater breaks yesterday while we are there. It is going to cost over $2000 to replace. The townhouse has a direct vent system which makes the water heater a special purchse unlike normal water heaters. Aaaarg!

Babs, this sets up a difficult scenerio. Doesn't the fact you ride a bike increase the chances of your daughters wishing to do the same ? If I had kids naturally they'd want to be the proud owners of an E-scooter just like their dad !! Thing is, the litter would likely consist of critters with 6 claws per pad, so my fears would unlikely come to fruition !

You have a point. Although I don't think either of my girls ever will, children tend to want to do things their parents do. At least if they do I set a good example. I wear all the protective gear, we discuss the dangers that happen, they hear us talk about how you can't trust other drivers and the things we've seen happen. If anything we've probably scared them from not wanting to drive a motorcycle.
My girls are not allowed to ride on the back of motorcycle unless it is on the back of my fiancee's bike and they had to be 18 first with a helmet, gloves, boots and a leather jacket. NUMBER ONE RULE: NEVER NEVER RIDE ON THE BACK OF KEITH'S BIKE !! I don't live in a rural area. They respect this and will be the first to say wait I need my boots before I get on.
It is like teaching your kids to respect a hunting gun. Sure accidents can happen, but at least when they become adults you've taught them all the right skills to make that less apt to happen.

I sold the KZ 1000 today. I was actually glad to see it go. It was a cool bike to have, but old bikes always need work done on them.

It's a thirty year old vintage bike. Lots of power, but easy to ride. Don't worry I ride safe.
Keith - Next year on the softail for sure. Softail Deluxe !
