Quote: I dunno Kappy. I thought it was a buyers market last week, but my favorite funds keep dropping 2-3-4 percent per day......I'm itching to get back in but can't predict the bottom
There's good money waiting to be had for those that can Keith, let's start a "Psychic Stock Broker Hotline", there's big big money in it these days... We can get a listing like 1-900-USUCKER, pretend we have such answers but we better get a hiding place too with the millions we'll make out've those that use such services .
These are the questions all of us wish we had answers to.
It's so difficult to project what to invest in. But once the investment is made it's equally as tough to know when to sell.. Even as a collector, the last things I assumed would appreciate have... And the projected items and collectables that would someday be worth a fortune are either of little interest now due to a trend change.. I'd NEVER have thought Wedgewood would've become of little value... I thought holding on to my Lionel trains was a good idea. Problem is I held on too long and Lionel is back into production.. ... I suppose if I had the money to purchase original Picasso's or Van Goghs, those would be a worthwhile investment, of course assuming I had that type of money, I wouldn't be concerned at this point with "How to invest" but rather how to shelter it.. I wonder if the cans of pre 1964 silver quarters are worth saving still ? THe guitars have been VERY good investments, of course assuming I wished to sell them quickly, I'd get screwed...
I dunno, wish I did...
As they say, when the economy gets really really bad liquor stores and funeral parlors don't suffer, but I'm also wondering if the Telecommunications Inflatable spouse concept I've been mulling over will do well now too !

The thing about stocks and the ecomony is they will go up and they will come down. It will rebound. It did ater the Depression, during the '70s when the best mortgage rates were 14% +, and other recessions. In fact those that don't panic (and sell low) usually rebound with better returns. If you have some loose change kicking around now is the time to invest.

Going back in history, the economy has always rebounded after a downturn, even after the great one in 29. However from what I was taught, the economy didn't really turn around then until after the war.
Whatever happens, happens. Nothing we can do about it, except the things Keith mentioned, which I agree with. The people who have cash will be the ones who will make out, and prosper if things get worse. The rest of us, maybe the gov't can bail us out too, .......Ron

Questions and observations..
Unless we are totally socialistic or communist since when is it governments responsibilty to fix or control the economy? They cant even maintain bridges without bankrupting this nation over and over. Do you really want millionare attorneys in control? To blame Bush is on one of the most assinine liberal press campagns I have seen yet and yes you can put part of the blame for this failing economy on them for hollering wolf in an attempt to get elected. If one man in this country has that much power we better get back to the constitution. The liberals control the house of representatives and are the most corrupt and greedy inept yet.Do you really think either one is going to produce the change that is so needed at this time?
And yes I have had the priveledge to speak in speakers corner in Hyde park in London. I will not remain silent. I have too much at stake...
I have told civilians for years. The battle is not over there It is here on daily basis. I stand... I do not walk away...

AIG's solvency is of GLOBAL economic importance. It operates in 130 countries. AIG is a major world INSURER. Insurers like AIG guarantee public/private assets in hard form. If AIG were to fail, then large portions of the global economy would also fail because no one wants in invest in anything that ain't insured.
Trust me.....This is not good.
Plan for lots of inflation and lots less credit available. Plan for very high unemployment and folks with little or no bucks left for entertainment.....Pay off any unsecured debts and attempt to "OWN" your home.....Forget your home equity, as it is evaporating faster than a wet fart in a hard wind.
Yes I know this. What I am saying is if you stay proactive there is money to be made. You have to know what is going on and keep your finger on the button so to speak. You can't trust your financial advisor to watch your money every minute. If it is a retirement account you better be in a very low risk account and even then be watching it. You can't just let your money sit unwatched.
Playing the stock market is like gambling. Don't put your money there unless you can afford to lose it !

I do agree that blaming Bush is about as assinine as giving Bill Clinton credit for the economy upswing when he took office. Interest rates had been lowered 23 times, and the down cycle was over, and on the way back up when Clinton took office. Awesome thing for a president to fall into.
Why anyone would want to be president right now is beyond me, but someone has to do it.
I am not taking political sides sides here, and don't want to see this thread turn hostile. The point I am making, is that economic cycles have always happened, and the current president gets much of the blame, or credit for whatever state the economy happens to be in at the time. But in reality, he has little to do with it.
If the new administration can get this country back on track (either party) I will eat every one of these words. Ron

its election year here as well as for you guys, what amuses the hell out of me is the outrageous promises they make knowing full well they will never be able to keep them in this economic climate.
equally outrageous are those without a brain who believe them...little wonder that internet scams are so sucessful when our own government can pull the wool over the eyes of the masses

DAMN ITT!! I want to move down there from Wellington Colorado to some little town.. Viki most here are mad as hell and tired of the crap!!!Their days are numbered>I talk to college kids on a regular basis and they listen to an old man that lived here when a man or a woman could work 40 hours and support a big family. they are tired of the greed of CEO's and government representatives. The working class and those that believe in Hope Faith and Love will assume control again for that is what this country was based upon to start with. I cannot give a time frame but I pray it does not take violent demonstrations and blood in the streets to gain control again. There was a time when the American citizen had the right for life liberty and the persuit of happiness The government could not make mistakes. Now it is totally opposite. The government can spend and experiment all they want. we have 3 strikes and per capita we have the biggest prison population in history.
Do not believe what you hear from this liberal press. I dont even trust the BBC anymore.

I do believe they are honey...Chch city council bailed one out to the tune of quite a few million recently simply to get back key central city property...though why on earth he should be bailed out is beyond me.
The numbers of mortgagee sales have increased significantly

NEW YORK - Wall Street extended a huge rally Friday as investors stormed back into the market, relieved that the government plans to restore calm to the financial system by rescuing banks from billions of dollars in bad debt. The Dow Jones industrials rose about 300 points, giving them a massive gain of more than 700 over two days, and Treasurys fell as money flowed into equities.

Yep Keith ! As you stated, it's IMPOSSIBLE to know when to buy !
I never would've assumed that the day we were discussing this was the day to buy..HAHAHA

Ron-
Sure you are allowed to post in the Singers Forum. I never posted a song either. I think all you need to do is ask a moderator or Phill to admit you. I think there (at least used to be) a minimum post count needed of around 10 posts (which you have).. Request membership to the forum, it's open to all. However it's a "members forum" meaning you are granted permission when you ask to join.. Phill will let you in.. I've never posted a song in the Showcase either. But I joined here to be around "singers". That's my only interest in Karaoke. The Singers.

Come to think of it Ron, I just read the description and it does state it pertains directly to the Singers Showcase.. I always thought it was a forum for those interested in "The SInging" aspects of Karaoke. or "singing", but it does seem to preface that it's about "The Showcase" and directly linked... You are allowed though, I don't think posting in the showcase is requisite. If-so, perhaps I shouldn't be there either.
