Liquiddye is right about the power output of that mixer. It is 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms , 500 watts into 4 ohms. Most speakers sold today that i see are 8 ohm speakers so it almost seems like a misrepresentation of the power output stated unless you read the fine print so to speak.

I wonder if that extra expense is really necessary. If it's learned how to be used, the extra expense could mean between "fine" sound & great sound. It evens out the levels of the vocal so they are more uniform, instead of having to have your hand on the mixer turning the vocal channel up and down when they get loud or soft.

This is so common in the way manus advertise that people see the high wattage & go OH ALRIGHT!!!!! I see powered boards advertised all the time, , Yamaha EMX512SC 500 watts per channel (@ 4ohms), Mackie PPM1008 1600 watts of power (@ 4 ohms) when in actuallity the actual power at the typical 8 ohm level is 350 watts per channel for the Yamaha - and even that is a MAX rating, not a continuous so the actual clean power is going to be less and 250 watts per channel (continuous) for the Mackie. Wow, All this time I thought I was using much more power than I really was. I thought I was smarter than that. So to actually get what what I thought I was using the fine print should say; 500 watts per channel @ 8 ohms RMS. Is that right?

Dependss on your speakers, don't recall what you mentioned you had. If the 'program' power rating is 500 watts @ 8 ohms, then your amp should push that at 8 ohms for maximum efficiency and the best sound quality.
But if you do decide to get a more powerful amp, QSC just made a new model that is fairly cheap, lightweight & powerful. The GX5, now I haven't used or tried this model yet, but QSC rarely puts out crap, plus they have a 6 year warranty.

The Speakers I'm using are Yamaha BR15 they are 8 Ohm rated; 250w Program/500w peak. I guess their a good match to the EMX512. I'm thinking my next step is to add a Subwoofer with another Amp to power it. Hopefully that would take pressure off the Emx512/Br15's and give them more amplification headroom. The EMX doesnt have a built in cross-over so I dont know how I would seperate the frequency and send only the upper freq to the internal amp. Maybe, if I really want to increase amplification headroom I shouldn't worry about utalizing the power in my EMX512 and think about a more powerfull amp with crossover, and Subwoofer,or maybe an amp and external crossover. At that point I guess I could get a nicer mixer, better speakers... It's all very confusing to me (but I like it  ) In any case it will be a few of months before I have more money to spend.

It only has main outputs, no inputs that you could use to send the highs to the internal amp.
You could just add a separate power amp/sub combo or a powered sub. Often you can find an amp that has a built in crossover or low pass. Use the main out on the mixer to the crossover ( or powered speaker). Now the downside in doing it without crossing over the tops to match the sub is they will still be trying to reproduce the sub frequencies as well & could run into some phase cancellation actually losing some sound quality. _________________ LIKE Lonman on Facebook - Lonman Productions Karaoke & my main site via my profile!
