Sorry if this is a repeat of a previous post. I searched but was unable to find one.

I am looking to get a MUCH better portable home system that my kids and family can use at home and be able to transport with us easily when we go to other locations. I am not looking for a professional type set up. Hopefully in the future though.

I have found information on Vocopro, CAVS and RSQ. I am curious as to anyone's opinions on their stand alone systems. Also, I would like to be able to hook up an external hard drive to one if possible.

I have friends (two, in fact) who have the Gig Master (I think that's what it's called) - they bring it to family gatherings, etc., and it is surprisingly nice sounding if set up right.

I would suggest, since you're not looking for professional stuff, one of the Fender Passport systems - easy to transport, small footprint, decent sound, for not a ton of money. I actually know of a bar show that uses one of these and I was pleasantly surprised at its capabilities to put out decent volume and clarity.

The Yamaha Stage Pass sytem is another good portable system that is out there. I use a bigger setup in the bar I do and only pull that system out of the bar if I have a major private gig. I do a private party for a non profit social club that I use my Stage pass system for. It actually sounds pretty good. But I wouldn't use it for any major gig.

Thanks for the information. I just recently began going to a room that has a show on Friday and Saturday night. Mainly because it is a small pub that is just a few minutes from my house. This has made me take a greater interest in practicing while I am at home.
Unfortunately the only system I have here is the inexpensive one that we purchased for our children a few years ago. So I am definitely looking for something that I have more control over with adjustments and sound quality.
I was thinking about a better stand alone system for the house. But in reading other posts on here, along with your information, it has made me realize that my first thought of a smaller PA system coupled with my laptop would be the way to go.
Especially since my laptop goes everywhere with me anyway.

my advice... stay away from Vocopro...

They just seem to have MORE problems, especially if you are going to be possibly mobile. Everything from graphic issues to losing signals in channels...

There's a REASON why Vocopro has a rep for solid customer service. Lots of issues to work on. Granted they usually stand by their name.

My favorite brand is one you don't have to have worked on very much! !

A Laptop is the way to go Especially if you plan to KJ later!
