I had an older Japanese gentleman come in Saturday night by himself. He handed me a disc and asked me with a very heavy accent if I played other people's discs. He thanked me and patiently waited his turn.

It was a Neil Diamond song, America. In his heavy accent, he very professionally talked through the intro about how he came to America and how proud he was to be a citizen. Everyone turned their heads and listened. He belted out the most entertaining animated karaoke song ever. By the time he got to the "Today" lyrics everyone was singing along. After he was done the audience chanted USA. It was tremendously moving.

This is a performance I won't soon forget. I would love it if you all would share yours.

Wow Babs. I've had guys who were being shipped to Iraq sing God Bless The USA and Courtesy Of The Red White And Blue to very positive crowd reaction, but that's about the closest I can come to a story of that type.

My most memorable singers are of another type, and I won't foul up this thread with that stuff.

Mine was sitting at a large table near the front door of a bar and having a gentleman lead a blind man about my age to our table, asking us if they could share. They said hello, and we thought little more of it.

Not too long later the blind fellow was led to the stage and given a microphone, and did a soaring rendition of Unchained Melody. He brought down the house.

I later found out that his name is Gary and he was known by others there. But my wife and I had never seen him and haven't since. It was fantastic.

I remember a woman who used to always be at one of the karaoke places I used to go to when I lived in the States. She'd get up and sing 'End of the World' . Never any other song. Just that song, every time.She sang it beautifully, and no one minded hearing it over and over.

I saw a guy start to belt out God Bless America, and as soon as he sang the word God, his false teeth shot outta his mouth, and onto the floor.....he really wasn't that old, but he picked them up(nobody made a move to pick them up...) and continued to sing, teeth in hand.....more shock than laughter though....

I think I know this guy.

I once had a gentlemen unaware his toupee was flopping around as he danced on the stage energetically. We were all in horror that the furry animal would actually come off.

Oh all right since you folks are opening this up here I go...

I had an older gentleman come in once. An "all Elvis" type. He brought up a half dozen slips and every one was an Elvis classic.

And he sang 'em with no teeth at all! Left 'em at home!

And yes it was memorable! Talk about getting the Elvis drug induced "slur" of his later years down cold...

how precious...at least it beats the comb-overs that are in denial

My most memorable was recently@ the Officers Club @ local Air Base. We recently lost a local Marine in Iraq. Next door in another room they were having a memorial dinner in honor of the fallen Marine. His family and his widow (with child) were all there. After the dinner was over they all came over and kinda hung out and all the officers and noncoms set up a receiving line to offer their condolences to the family and widow. I must add she is 21 and from Japan. After I began Karaoke, the family began to get involved singing the usual "God Bless the USA....... and so on. After a while the widow came up to me and wanted to sing "My heart will go on" by Celine Dion. While she was singing all the while rubbing her pregnant stomach I almost couldnt hold it together, wasn't a dry eye in the house when she finished. That was a tough one.

I know a guy that doesn't have a lot of hair on top. He always wore a hat (kind of a Waylon Jennings style) that looked cool, and he was a good singer and the hat added to his act. Anywhoo, one day he sang "Signs" by the Five Man Electric Band--you know, "Do this don't do that can't you read the sign". When he got to this part

"And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why"

he took off his hat, and I almost started cracking up. So if you have a toupee (many of us might some day), this would be a good song to pull it off on!

What a touching story ! I have heard songs sung that bring a tear to my eye. That would have had me blubbering for sure.

When my daughter was very ill in the hospital I had two young men very beautifully sing "Angel" in harmony. I was crying so hard they felt the need to apologize to me. I told them no need, it was just so beautiful it touched my heart. Not very professional of me, but they understood.
