in November our town will celebrate 150 years. The hotel has been approached by the district council to see if they would put on a traditional roast luncheon on the last sunday of the month and I have been asked to come up with something that will create the "wow" factor

when I was a child there were two things that made sundays...the smell of roast lamb cooking and the sunday request session on the radio. As a child I listened to all manner of old stuff, I guess that was where my love of radio first started.

So I am going to create a "sunday request session" I will pre record a radio style show and burn to disc to be played while patrons are dining. The retro roast meal and the retro radio show :) I am asking for suggestions of songs pre and post war, hell dating back as far as we can into edwardian time would be great...any suggestions greatly appreciated...I am really excited about this...I think it will be fun

OK a couple of great 40's big band songs came to mind, "Marie" by Tommy Dorsey and Ella Fitzgerald's "Taking A Chance On Love". Kind of random selections, but they are good songs.

You may want to Google "radio shows" and see if they are already recorded and saved.

Sounds like a lot of fun..

"Damn The Dam" comes to mind as being one nostalgic song appropriate to the area and also "Join Together" (CHCH Commonwealth Games Theme)

HAHA... now how did Dam.n (without the period) get changed to "gosh darn" ?

How bout some Glenn Miller (In The Mood, Transylvania 6-5000, etc) and Dorsey Brothers' (Ain't She Sweet, Lullabye of Broadway, etc) tunes V? All great nostalgic tunes that are sure to bring about a great ambience.

I probably do have the best collection of big band stuff. With a BBE362 and an Aphex 104 We bring out the original sounds.

If there is any gal here that can dance to this I want to meet you..
