The fact you noticed it when it was quiet is cause for concern Babs. You should be checked out before it gets worse.

Babs:
ANYTIME your ears are ringing for ANY reason at ANY level, it is a VERY serious issue. Your ears are telling you that permanent damage has either happened already or is imminent.
You don't need to hear it everytime for it to be damaging.
I'm with Catseyeview. Set up an appointment with an audiologist as soon as possible and get yourself checked.
Good luck!

Wow, I never thought of it as a real problem. I only noticed it when I'd go to bed after a gig and it is perfectly quiet. It is a high pitched ring. I might have mislead you all in the fact I don't hear it everytime. It is only on particular nights it's loud.

This almost confirms my suspicion. When turning up to compensate, you lose your lower end. Get a more powerful amp. Again this will make the sound fuller & less ear fatiguing. If it's happening to you, you can bet there are people in the audience experiencing the same thing.

Babs:

Take it from one that has profound hearing loss. Don't mess with your hearing. I have constant ringing in my ears and at times it drives me nuts. I usually have some kind of music or other sound going on in the background just so I can think.

I have to really concentrate to hear people talk and if they come up behind me and talk to me I don't hear them. I have taught my self to semi-read lips and that helps but not always and I have to have them repeat themselves. I've got to have the closed captioning on when watching TV or else have the volume so loud that the neighbors can hear it.

People think that I'm some kind of nut because I can not hear them but can sing Karaoke and usually right on key. I guess I just hear myself in my head.

Oh yea hearing aids are expensive and I can not afford them.

Get some good ear plugs and have your hearing checked out as at first its just the high end frequencies that go and it works it way down till all you hear is base.
