Personally instead of spending many, many hours re-ripping I would buy MTU's SongVerter program for $40.00 and just convert the files.

That's good for songfiles that are already on hard drive, but for new discs it's better to get PowerKaraoke's CDG burner as it rips, compiles, copies discs and converts from Bin, MP3+G unzipped and KMA to Bin, Mp3+G unzipped and Mp3+G zipped. And it costs $1 less than MTU's Songverter. www.powerkaraoke.com

I wasn't aware that it converted KMA files. I just tried it, and the feature doesn't seem to work for my KMA files. (It does convert MP3+G files to bin.)

Power CD+G Burner should convert KMA files where KMA is a container for WMA + CDG. Way in the past MTU used different format, so maybe this is the problem. It does convert the KMAs created with version 3 and 4 of Hoster (at least it did when we last checked it).

I ripped most of my files to MP3+G with another ripper and then imported them with Hoster. Those files do not convert. I did rip a small number of files with Hoster's ripper, and those do indeed convert.

You may want to try either CDGRipper or Audiograbber, which are free, before you buy software. In fact, why not try them both?

I don't think CDG Ripper is free  Audiograbber is and it will give you a better extracted file than any MTU software for the sound quality, on the other hand, MTU will give you a better graphic quality. I personally, don't recommend backing up a cdg disk or extracting in the hard drive using an MTU sofware, the software will change the sound quality as oppose to all the other software that do not impact the sound.

If your drive is not an official CDG drive, you'll have to reduce the speed to 4-8 X max with Audiograbber, this way, your graphic will be very clean.

I think he meant CDGrip which is produced by the makers of COmpuhost. Mickey, I happen to disagree with you on audiograbber being the best out there. I personally believe, because I tested a song off disc with all the present rippers out there, save the newest version of Microstudio and only PowerKaraoke's ripper came out with perfect rips, audio and graphic. You also need an outside zipper to zip the files with Audiograbber. I like my ripping programs self contained if at all possible.

Please, don't me wrong, I don't think or say that Audiograbber is the best, you guy's know a lot more when it comes to "The" best karaoke extractor or player for running a show... All I say, is that Audiograbber will NOT impact the sound quality the way an MTU software would :!: I know for a fact that there's something wrong with their sound engine but if no one complains about it, well, they just won't correct the problem.

I've tested the Powerkaraoke software and other software from them in the past and I must say that they do offer some good products and also have a good sound engine

CDRWin will also work if you have the right hardware

BUT CDRWin also has problems with multisession discs, you need to know how to tweak it to get it to work with those discs. And it could be nothing more than an advertising blip on the disc to make it a multisession disc.

Audiograbber automatically ignores that section. And with audiograbber, you can rip directly to compressed, where CDRWin goes to .bin. With CDRWin you have to use another program to convert from .bin to compressed with graphics. Nothing wrong with that. I did that for many years.

Also CDRWin is very, VERY picky about the exact hardware per version of the software you use. I had to buy three different versions of CDRWin over the years as you don't get updates from them (not that I know of anyway), where Audiograbber never complained once! (Granted, I use plextors and Lite-On drives, which naturally have the graphics subcode, and don't have to be software tricked to seeing them, the way Powerkaraoke and other copy programs do.

Matt

You're so right about multi-session discs. I have never learned how to "tweak" such discs to work with CDRWin. Can you please enlighten me/us?

:P It AIN'T easy. One reason I went the route of Audiograbber is I got tired of trying to tweak it.

http://www.lslnet.com/DownloadsFreewre/Cdrwin-40b-.htm this site has a .pdf file that is the user's manual.

It talks extensively about the "copying sectors" rather than copying tracks to do the multisession discs.

Again, I'm NO expert on this program... once I couldn't click here and click start, I kinda gave up on it for extracting.

I still use it to burn my occassional compilation disc!

I don't know, maybe I never was doing it right, I have NEVER got a clean rip using AudioGrabber - always use 4x or slower. I have 5 drives including a certified Plextor for cdg & even that one gave artifacts on screen, although it was cleaner than my other drives.

I almost ALWAYS ripped at 4x, no matter the ripper. You just get too many graphic errors going faster than that.

I use 3 different drives, including the "cheap" Plextor Lonman recently recommended.

Typically, when I have encountered a ripping problem, it is with the higher numbered tracks. Meanwhile, a DVD drive I have never previously used for ripping has just proven this week to be helpful with "reading" tracks for ripping purposes when the other drives have "failed".

Could the disk (brand) have anything to do with a clean graphic? Microstudio who is well known to be a good extractor for the quality of the graphic, gave me many broken letters on my Queen disk using my LiteOn where Audiograbber at 4X didn't??? That was really strange!

It's really hard to believe these guy's are still in business  They were one of the first to extract cdg disk into bin, but the problem is that they are still at that time, at least 6 years behind everyone :!: Can't communicate with most drive, many problems playing a disk burn with their software, sure not a software I would recommend spending money on, there's so many good software available...

different opinions fit different folks... as I said, for years it was the standard. For what I still use it for, it works for me!
