I began to wonder, after the discussion on the "Karaoke As A Business" thread, how many of us have more than one sound system. I'm also curious as to why and how it came about that you have additional equipment.

I have 2 pa setups and I am not a KJ...for me its a case of being reluctant to let go of the original system...the rare times we are asked to do barn dances literally in barns up dusty dirt roads, its far better to take the passive speakers than the powered...I dont mind undoing the grill on them and vacuuming them out...plus there has been the odd time a muso friend has been in need...dont mind helping them out but not with the gear I use as my bread n butter

I have my main setup that I gig with.

I have a secondary setup that is used more for kids parties and pub quizzes.

I have a 3rd and final setup that is pretty laughable, but better than most pubs PA systems, so is of use as and when.

I have two complete gig-worthy setups, and five altogether.

Only one set of music, though, so I can't run more than one show at a time. I have looked at my music collection, and I could assemble a pretty decent set of music for two shows -- I have lots of dups. If I bought another Soundchoice Foundation and some sort of a Chartbuster country set, it would be pretty reasonable.

But my direction is very definitely moving in download-as-you-go. If a song was requested, and I didn't have it, I would download it right then and there and build the collection from actual "sung" songs.

As soon as I buy 2 more speakers, I will have 2 complete systems. The irony is, I hav'nt done my first gig yet, or even played the first karaoke song thru the pa.

I know I will mcky, I've sang along to regular music thru my pa system enough to know that I will. Plus I have killer stereos in 2 of my boats, one has 12 speakers, and 2 seperate subs which is like sitting in between a huge set of earphones. When I start listening to music in that boat, many hours, can go by like minutes because I enjoy it so. There is no doubt that I will enjoy the karaoke system. :)

I have basically 3 sets, both active and passive. However, my amp rack is on permanent loan to hubby's band, as are my passive subs. I had a powered amp setup and small speakers that i used for performance workshops but sold that - no time to do workshops anymore, and am trying to get out of the habit of just 'collecting' equipment, as much as it gives me a little bit of a buzz to walk into a room full of potential sound.... weird, huh.

I have 3 complete systems including Computers for each. At one time I had all three working on the weekends at the same time. I had 2 other KJ's that handled gigs for me so it was necessary to have them.

One of the weekend gigs is in it's 5th year and I no longer wanted to manage the employee nor deal with the taxes and extra insurance so I let him take over the gig and I just rent the equipment and music to him. I did this about 2 years ago and it works out good for both of us and the rental provides a nice positive cash flow.

I still have the other 2 systems and have the ability to use either depending on the gig or venues requirements. I use my Bose System for Weddings, Yacht Clubs, and Corporate Functions, and I use my Yamaha/Yorkville System for Private Parties.

Having three systems I can ramp up my business immediately if extra income is needed as I don't have to scramble to put one together. It comes in handy if the Full Time job gets slow. It is comforting to know that I can always rely on karaoke to bring home the bacon...LOL

I have another system ready to go, but since I am unable to find someone willing to host, it's gathering dust.

I have a second setup.

I like to have backups for everything. You never know when something will just cease to work. I have way to many microphones, but at least I know if something happens to one or all of them I won't have to worry. It's peace of mind for me.

Funny this question came up. Just last night I was busy splitting my stuff up into 2 seperate racks, so I can have 2 set-ups. I was just thinking I wish I had several of the older stuff that I had sold in the last year when I upgraded to some newer stuff. I would like to have thrown it in there. It's more of my normal gig-rig and my secondary to rent/loan or to use in the event I have 2 gigs on the same night. Have someone else cover one with the other system and their music. Nice to have several options...MrD

Currently I have 1 complete system working. 1 partial system that I could use if needed. I sold off my mobile systems years ago. At one time I had 4 working systems - those were the days.

I have one large system semi-permanently installed at my main venue, one smaller mobile rig, and enough spare stuff for a third. I also partially own a system that's only used for my band. Back-up for the back-up, so to speak.

Ive got 2 full karaoke pa systems, PLUS a third system that can be used for DJ but has no effects, and I would have to borrow a mic from another system if i were to try to use it as such. Ive also got about 1/3 of a 10 x 20 storage building packed with various amps and speakers. Im kinda An equipment junkie. Ive also bought 2 bass guitar amps since the last time I played with a band. one of them I bought this summer and I still haven't hooked it up to test it.

I have a larger system and a smaller one.

The larger one would be more for a live band. This is separate, mixer, rack, amps, speakers, monitors, mics, stands, etc, to mic up a whole band.

And one smaller rig, which I use for DJ/KJ gigs consisting of powered mixer, lighter speakers and my playback rack.

I don’t do live sound anymore, as it’s simply not worth it compared to karaoke parties/picnics, but that system is set up in my music room for my band to practice, and we’re setting up now for recording.

Now that I’m getting into playing, in my music room I also have a few acoustic and electric guitars/amps, 8-pc Ludwig drum kit, and a couple basses, as I play the bass with the guys.

New recording equipment (some contributed by the Lead Guitar player) another digital recorder, more AKG condensor mics, two awesome PreSonos preamps, TCHelicon vocal processor... stuff like that.
