What would you suggest as a small one room home pa system? Not really looking to set up a show or anything, just looking for something small that I can use at home and possibly on my deck for my own parties.

It would be easier for people here to recommend a system if you state your budget.

Small passive board, a used eon ,sm 58, lexicon effects, and a bunch of nu techs and a rj teck mini player. rock on brother rock on.

Good advice.

For home use, maybe a nice/small Yamaha mixer with effects & compressor,

and a 15" Behringer powered speaker would do nicely.

Try Fender Passport line. Pickout how big the room is and all you need is the CD+G player and mic and you are set. If you set up the EQ right, they sound pretty good and within your budget.

Eben, I saw that line of Fender passports at work at an outdoor venue just yesterday and it was OK, I think it would be a great home set up. Doesn't take up too much space and can be packed away easily. This one...

I can say the passport is an awesome system. Well worth your money and a sound investment.

I would agree with that Ben...I heard one of the earlier ones bout 9 years ago at a school...the music teacher was a friend of my husbands and we were looking to purchase our first pa system. We ended up going for something with a little more grunt but I have always liked the fender passports after hearing how that one performed, nice clear sound, easy to set up and pack down and it had a really great feature on one of the mic channels that when you talked into the mic it would automatically lower the volume of the music playing, then boost it back up after you had finished talking...bit like a radio dj talking over the intro of a song.
Now that is not what you want obviously for karaoke, unless you happen to be a host back announcing the last singer and introing the next singer whilst the end of the previous song is playing and before the next one begins... but the option was there and you could have it on or off.

Thanks folks. I really appreciate it. I found a Passport that a friend of mine has available. He is an acoustic musician that performs on the coast. He recently upgraded to a larger system and he has his 2 year old Fender available. I believe I am going to buy that one from him and set it up in my great room.

Well, glad we were able to help out. My small gig system is a fender and my laptop. Cuts down on clutter/equipment hauling.

Oh, one more thing. If you get the system and set it up semi permanently, I would go get a longer speaker cables. The ones that come with the system is way too short, I think like 5 or 6 feet, more or less. The cables are nothing more than 1/4" cable that's readily available on eBay. I got mine at 10 or 12 feet (can't remember now at work) and it gives me more room to set things up. They weren't too expensive either. FYI.

Thanks Eben. I would say the party is going to be as soon as I can get something set up. I have always had a small kid type all in one and figured it was time to do something better so the grown ups can have some fun with it.
