Hi, I want to buy a receiver and speakers for karaoke, but I don't know how to choose for better effect of karaoke. Here I have two options: 1. BMB receiver and speakers;
2. Onkyo 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver and Sony speakers. Do you think which one is better? Or if you have better suggestion, please don't hesitate to tell me. Thank you very much.

Why do you want a home theater receiver? Is this for a home theater system? If it is only for karaoke, skip that stuff and buy a PA system designed for vocals.

You would have to add a mixer to a home theater receiver, and also you can't effectively run real vocal performances on home theater speakers. Any "karaoke mixer" or "mixer amplifier" actually ends up being a poor substitute for a real PA.

As someone who messed around and spent many hundreds of dollars on the above equipment tries, I suggest you look at a small portable PA like the Fender Passport that lots of people here will recommend.

1. It is a very good home karaoke system (with added player or computer with karaoke songs).
2. It is useful for parties, PA, community events, etc. if you do that type of thing.
3. It has resale value if you decide to give it up.

So instead of buying a mixer and speakers, which you need to add to the HT reciver anyway, buy the PA system.

If you did insist on the HT receiver, I recommend the Behringer 1202FX mixer and MTX TP112 speakers along with appropriate cables to attach to it. That will make a reasonable karaoke system for $375 not including the receiver. For not too much more, you can get the portable PA.

hi mckyj57, thank you so much for your suggestion, but I know nothing about PA. Would you please recommend one Fender Passport model for me, and where can I buy it? Thank you very much. By the way, does PA work with my DVD player and TV set? (I have a special karaoke DVD player and one karaoke DVD with thousands of music. Can my DVD player connect to PA? just like connect to receiver?)

As to which model, the more power the better. But if you have a small room, the PD150 might work.

Yes. The TV really doesn't have anything to do with the audio, which just plugs in to an input on the PA the same as it would to a receiver.
