Eric I'm one of those that can entirely blow their stack then be laughing about it 5 min later. It took a long time to learn how to do that. When I dont eat a lot of salt my blood pressure is normal..

McCain's injuries he recieved when he was shot down in Hanoi Hilton has left him appearing stiff. McCain had serious injuries to both legs, both arms, and had dislocated shoulders, none of which were properly treated for 5 years. The bones did not heal properly and cause him pain and limited mobility.
The Senator cannot lift his arms above his shoulders and cannot hold his arms straight out in front of him or to the sides.

I have never heard him use his injuries to get votes. I so admire this. After all he has been through he still has a great sense of humor which I find very telling. I can't help, but admire him.

It bothers me when people make fun of him for being stiff. Most of them don't even know why it is he is this way. If he is voted into office or not I'll always have great respect for him.

As a side note John F Kennedy had chronic back pain from war wounds. I met a marine who flew with him on airforce one. Hre said he would come back and have a couple of shots and BS with them, straighten his tie and say well back to being president. I loved that man and think he is the last president we had.

to Babs' comment

for the record, i have some respect for him as well. all my arguments were just to show that people in glass houses shouldnt throw rocks. all the negative things that were being said about Obama, I just wanted to show even war heroes dont come with money back guarantees. so on with the election, may the lesser of 2 evils win :)

that fact reminds me of FDR and his polio (i think it was polio) but it was very courageous of him to finish out his term against all the pain he was in.

It always feels like when I vote it is picking the lesser of 2 evils. :D

I never seem to agree with everything one canidate wants to do. I try to pick the things out that are most important to me and then the country. Selfish I know, but a lot of the time they are one in the same because what effects the country as a whole does effect me.

I think it maybe a closer race than most people think.

What's oober interesting this time round is so many younger voters are getting into politics. Although they aren't always the best decision makers. I'd like to think if we get them started early they'll be better informed as they get older.

Dumbdrums.

Firstly, I am not, never have been, nor will I ever be a "dude"!
Secondly, according to what I read, Sheree stated that this thread started as an attack on Obama. Rather, I see the start of the thread as an honest question Babs had regarding someone else's material.

Wow This was interesting. I wonder if anything will become of it.

And the "this" Bab was referring to was the video she had attached.

How do you, or anyone, come to look upon Bab's question as anything more than a question that she was entertaining?

I am most curious how you came to believe it was anything more than that, because your explanation to my inquiry will better help me to understand why so many things people do and say are misunderstood and misinterpreted!

I would also like to take this opportunity to note that, generally speaking, it seems to me that people are extremely sensitive regarding any "attack" on Obama and overly protective of him. And in his defense, his supporters do not hesitate in the least in calling his detractors "racists".

just passing through....lol.....so many entries, could only read a dozen or so, but it seems passionate....lol....here's my two cents on younger voters
Tax cuts always sound good, but we've been getting them at the expense of our children, and grand children.......it's about time they've gotten a say in the matter....I think Obama offers hope for future generations. We've sucked up all the natural resources, poluted the planet, and now our kids have to conserve, pay for, and clean up the messes we've made........I made a few one take, unprofessional songs about my candidate choices, if you want to see an old man embarrass himself.....lol http://www.youtube.com/user/johnnyreverb I could use a few hits.......:)

ok maam, ill make this brief, you just like to hear yourself type dontcha (look i sound like Palin !! woooohooo ) you had no reason to pick an argument with sheree. I dont see where anyone has played the race card here..again , what planet are you on..if i am wrong , please someone other than Polly Palin here tell me that babs video was not a dig at Obama..sheree never said that Babs was doin the dig...The video was. put the pipe down and pay attention. Why would a video be posted like that unless it was to make a point, nothin wrong with babs doing that, but everybody started dogpiling on with all the Ayers stuff, so yeah this thread was started by a negative thing about Obama..

So, let me understand this Dumbdrum. According to Sheree the thread was started as an attack against Obama.

You, Dumbdrums, agree with Sheree but want to acknowlege Bab's calm and unemotional involvement in the this thread. So, as long as you attack someone calmly and unemotionally, you deserve kudos for doing so?

You REALLY want to know what planet I'm on, kitten?

And when I say I am no 'dude' that doesn't reflect upon my gender. I am from a generation that remembers when "dude" was a derogatory reference. It's commone common usage today is even more ridiculous then when people referred to something as bein "bad" when they wanted to acknowledge that it was good.

did we altogether stop reading there "sir"...why do you ALWAYS present facts that were never said. My compliment to babs has nothing to do with her posting that video, its the way through out this whole thread she hasnt let anything drive her to our level of arguing. When was dude ever a bad word? if you are annoyed with Babs tone then tell her yourself.

errrrm I would just like to go on record as stating....

THIS IS AN ARGUEMENT I DIDNT START!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO

OK I am just trying to breathe a little levity into a situation that has got a tad too serious.

On a more serious note...have any of you given thought to the odds of an assassination attempt if Obama wins? The guy has got to realise that there will be Zealots that will be so freakin anti as to try. Does this make Obama Brave or stupid or a potential martyr?

Sheree,

I think you mis-spoke when you said this thread started as a criticism of Obama. Please review what Bab initially said.

You may also agree that the negativity directed towards McCain on this thread has been a lot more vitriolic than the negativity displayed towards Obama (except for maybe my posts about Obama)!

Yes I do feel the whole premise of this thread (the video) was an attack on Obama. No, Babs' question was not an attack, but the video and all it entailed was. If you watched the video, it was produced by people who said "We are here to expose the corruption in Obama's past"... Then, the whole "Guilt By Association" thing I believe started with you. It's not important who presented it, nobody was rude or disrespectful. I -respectfully- presented the case of "Guilt By Association" on McCain's side. Is that unfair? These stories were labeled "stupid liberal lies"... This is when things started to get heated...and it was heated on both sides.

All better now. :handshake:

I was simply pointing out that McCain (and Palin) had some equally unsavory associations, but nobody here seems to be concerned about that...including myself.

I think these things are put out there like chicken-feed by both campaigns and we all eat it up. In fact, it was Hilary who brought up Ayers first. I'm sure she dug deep too, her resources are probably some of the finest. But she doesn't seem to be worried now. Perhaps that's just a political move, but I think if she really felt that Obama had some sort of radical agenda and associated with terrorists, she would be worried about associating with him -after all - that could taint her own aspirations. I don't think even McCain is worried about Obama's associations. He just knows that he needs to use whatever information he's got to tarnish his character. And from what I've read in here, it's working like a charm. The fact that we know little about the Ayers association might just mean that there is not much to uncover. But, as I believe Odie pointed out, keeping that suspicion there is far better for McCain than putting the relationship out there in the light of day. In McCain's own words recently on David Letterman, "It's all politics".

Quote:

Define "overly protective". Nobody has brought up race in this thread, so why bring it up now? Perhaps "generally speaking" it is because this is the first time in U.S. history a black man has run for President... and there are still a lot of openly racist people out there who are adamantly opposed to it. In one video I saw a man carrying a monkey to a McCain campaign with "Obama" written on it. I'd say generally speaking, if one is a racist, he or she is probably a McCain supporter. However, this does not mean all McCain supporters are racist.

Do you think McCain supporters aren't as passionate about defending McCain as Obama supporters? I'd say there are people on both sides acting like Pavlov's dogs, responding without thinking - using the information that is thrown our way by both campaigns.
