lmao.....I've been around here for a while, much longer than the joining time of this alias....lol.....and I've noticed, people post their replies, while reading very few, if any, of the previous posts on the subject. Sometimes they just look at the post title, and then fire away with both barrels....lol.......A paragraph or two is cool, but who in the he!!, has the time to read the pages upon pages of sh!t some people post...lmao......by the way, what were we talking about?.....:)

Yes, it seems people often want to talk but not listen to (read) what others have to say.

*flippin' my hair over my shoulder*... that's just rude.

By the way, did you say something Johnny?!?!

:D

I'm just funning. You all have a good day. I'll stop in around noon (PST) and if you're all behaving I'll bring some coffee and donuts;)

Okay deep breathe. :o

Someone emailed the video to me and I was curious if any others had heard anything about it. It was presented with credibility, but the common sense side of me found it unbelievable. How in the world could it be true? So in essence I truly just wanted your views on it.

I loved that it turned into a discussion about the canidates. I'm very interested in hearing different points of view. I try to stay open minded about hearing both sides, so I can make an intelligent decision.

I think we've done a fairly good job of discussing a very volatile subject. But please do not think for a minute I meant to start this thread by bashing Obama.

I gave thought to the fact crazy people may want to assassinate Obama because he is black. Any president is under this threat. I don't think it is any more dangerous for him than previous presidents. The fact is there are crazy people out there. People looking to become famous for commiting the act, terrorists, people who disagree with the presidents policies, mentally disturbed etc...

The fact is every president we've ever had has been under some threat or another. I would not base my vote on the fact I was afraid he'd be assassinated because it could happen to any of them.

I didn't say that you wanted to bash Obama, but the video is over the top and the very purpose of it's existence is to bash Obama. It is MY opinion (and we all have one  ) that when one posts a video, the video contents become part of the post itself. I think I know you well enough to know that you were not attacking him yourself.

Lastly, I still maintain that if you assert that Babs' intentions and/or remarks were not an attack on Obama, you have no justification for stating the purpose of her thread was to attack Obama. The incongruity between those two possibilities cannot be bridged by simple asserting that it has been (bridged)!

Eric, you can keep maintaining that position for all I care....or....you could build a bridge and get over it.

I thought I was remembering correctly. ha,ha Back in October, '07 at the peak of Hillary Clinton's popularity she had much more of the black vote than Obama did. Here's a bit from a CNN.com article:

Oct. 17, 2007
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton's lead over Sen. Barack Obama, her chief rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, is growing among African-American voters who are registered Democrats, and particularly among black women, a poll said Wednesday. Sen. Hillary Clinton is the top choice of African-American Democrats, a new poll suggests. Among black registered Democrats overall, Clinton had a 57 percent to 33 percent lead over Obama."

So Obama didn't really start getting a majority of the black vote until he began to overtake Clinton. The black vote wasn't naturally all going to Obama from the start.

you know whats weird is i got some black friends who dont like Obama cause they say he is too "vanilla" to be the first black president...if you think about it, it seems he has been very careful not to mention any racial issues..

Hmmm, an excellent point regarding this and your previous post. I think he's got to be "in the middle" on this. He can't be too one sided as he would lose his white supporters and Barack's smart enough to know that the President is President of ALL citizens, not just those he resembles most. From the outlook of him being bi-racial, I think that gives him a very good position to relate to all people. I have those same black friends who say the exact same thing. I guess they want a Jesse Jackson type or a Farrakhan. Barack with his current election strategy should hold him in good stead with most of the Dem base. I think those that say he's too vanilla want some radical change that will change racist thinking over night. All the laws, rules, and programs to combat racism won't change the heart and mind of the racist at all. In the last election's primaries, I voted for Alan Keyes. I liked his conservative views. You didn't see blacks rushing to his candidacy at all! Keyes wasn't going to give support to the victim mentality of the reparationists. I'm still on the fence about this. I was voting for McCain, and I still like him, but I just don't feel it like I did for Reagan years back. BTW, about racist voters? My mom who has voted Dem all her adult life will NOT vote for a black man. I never would have thought that of her. Ah, you live and learn.

That is bizarre. If there is a humorous side to this story, it's the fact that she carved the B backwards...but of course when she was carving it looking in the mirror...it looked fine. :withstupid:

If Obama does get elected I believe it will help break down some prejudices. But only if he has a good run. The same people who say they won't vote for him because he's black will be the first people to say the reason he didn't do well in office is because he's black. Ignorant, but true.

Now if he does well as president I think he'll go down as one of our best. If he can strengthen our economy and prove bipartisanship works he'll strengthen our solidarity and help against racism. Boy that sounds nice.

I agree Babs, if he does well, some people might reconsider their archaic thinking. But beliefs are deep seeded and hard to change. I have a good friend that I've known since high school who is a successful doctor, a good husband, good father and a nice person, but he is as racist as they come. I've always tried to look past that because it is really a very small part of who he is. It's just a basic belief he has had since he was a young kid. When he see's a black person he becomes somebody that I don't even recognize.

There are a lot of good people out there that have some rather bad ideas. Perhaps that will change, but it will take some time. We've already come a long way.

Sheree,

You can "dance around" and continue to have your "hissy fits" all you want. Here again is what YOU posted. And as with so many errorneous things you have posted or slanted opinions you have revealed, YOU ARE WRONG, once again --
Babs DID NOt start the thread AS AN ATTACK ON OBAMA!

This whole thread was started as an attack on Obama. Did anybody get in a hissy fit over that? No.
