U really get used to the dongle. I do the same thing as mcky. First thing after my show, the dongle goes right into the little pocket in my Laptop Travel Bag.
BTW, for all the CompuHost users out there. They just announced a new update with IMO some really bad a$$ features!

I at first had worried about whether or not I would lose the dongle but since I am a crature of habit I made myself set up steps for tear down and setup.
Setup:
1:Laptop and powercord
2: usb pcmia with dongle attached
3: usb soundcard (housed in my rack
4: S-video cord
5: external hard drive
Tear Down (all steps done after shutdown):
1:External Hard Drive
2: USB card with dongle attached
3: unplug USB Soundcard
4: Unplug laptop and disconnect power cord
5: S-video cord
6: load laptop and powercord into laptop bag.
7: tear down audio rack.
If you follow something like that you'll never misplace anything. It all depends on how organized your setup and teardown steps are.

CDGFix announced they have a new Holster on the planning table. (Sarpsborg)
I hope it is as "Stable and Feature Riched" as Compuhost, combined with CDGFix's abilities...
That'll be something to look at.
Kind Regards,

Pardon my ignorance, but, what is a USB license and what's it's significance?

Basically, the license information/serial of Compuhost is stored on a USB Stick.
You CAN start the program without it, but then it only runs in Trial mode, which plays a song only 90 seconds and then cut it out.
If the USB stick with the license information is plugged in before starting Compuhost, it will run in full mode. Meaning playing the whole song until it's over.
Everything else works the same way in Trial as in Full mode. Therefor you can install the program on several (backup) computers, just plug the USB Stick in and you are ready to go.

Ok, got it...I was under the impression there was some long process through which one had to go, or something! So, the only nuisance is keeping the USB stick plugged in while using? That is annoying, I guess, but, seems do-able given the fact during karaoke a gazillion things are plugged into a gazillion areas anyhow.

I thought it would be a big deal, but it has not turned out to be. The main worry is not losing it, but we just tie it to the setup and it can't go anywhere.
It is nice to have the software loaded and ready to go on a backup, and in case of failure just move the dongle. I like the method much better than the one MTU Hoster uses -- good luck in creating a quick backup system with that!

In Compuhost, can you click and drag through the rotation list? This is important to me for many reasons. Also, say you want to enter a singer...can you do like that which can be done in hoster...that is, key in the song title, select from the list, and add the singer to the list all from one menu?
NEVERMIND...FOUND THE ANSWER. PLEASE DISREGARD!!!

You can easily move a singer up and down the list by highlighting the singer you want to move and using the arrows to the left of the names.

They changed this in the latest (beta) version, just so you know.

mckyj57 @ Thu Aug 28, 2008 8:52 am wrote: I disqualify any of the Winamp-based ones (autokdj, Sax n' Dotties, Roxbox) because of the fragility of the connection to Winamp. You have no idea whether a key change took -- you just have to sort of guess, since Pacemaker provides no status information.
Mckyj57 in addition to above you have stated before about pacemaker problems with Sax N Dotty and while I do so few key changes (and usually when I do it is for someone who has brought a disc so I use a hardware keychange) it has never been a big issue with me, but I have learned what you were referring to.
So I spent some time looking into it (this problem) and while I can't state exactly what causes the problem, I believe I have come up with a fix:
1. Pacemaker has to be the last plugin installed...if you install another plugin
after you have installed Pacemaker-then reinstall Pacemaker.
2. If you use a DSP stacker, Pacemaker has to be the first plugin in the load
order within the DSP stacker.
I have tested several different ways and experianced the problem but was always able to get Pacemaker to work properly under Sax N Dotty by doing the above 2 steps.
Maybe this will help someone else who has experianced the problem above.

I think what you've "discovered" is also true for Rox Box
BTW, would know if the Beta 4 (I think) version of Autokdj works with Vista?

Hi Eric, Sorry, I know very little about Autokdj, I looked at their web site and couldn't find the answer to your question there either. (Doesn't mean the answer isn't there...I just couldn't find it.)
I am sure someone here will know, though.

autokdj indeed does work under vista. I have it running with winamp 5.541. The pacemaker plugin works fine except that it doesn't remember my key and temp changes like Karafun does. Whenever I go to a local Karaoke show I always ask what program they're using and nearly all of the local hosts are using Sax and Dotty. One uses Hoster, one uses Tricerasoft Just Karaoke and one uses Siglos. A couple are still disc based.
If you don't need tempo adjustment then Just Karaoke for $25 seems like a good way to go for a while until you find something better . The one show I went to where he was using it, the guy was thrilled with the program. The sound was very good too. The user interface is very clean and simple and the search function looked very easy and fast.
