Since the beginning of the nomination process, when it came to Hilary and Obama, I shrugged then and said, "junior senators is the BEST we can throw at this??"

I just went to the Truman Library on my honeymoon, and yeah, I really wondered what happened to our politics!

I agree. I seen a report a few days ago. That it may be 1 to 2 years before the economy can turn around. That is if this bailout thing works. Maybe it will work. But I have no hope in it. But Alan Greenspan said that it will.

I would have supported the election efforts of Jim Webb (D-Va) if the party had
selected him to run. He's a decorated USMC Vietnam combat veteran, and has
opposed the way the war in the Middle East has been conducted. He has openly
sparred with President Bush over the current military policies.

Nevertheless, he is still a very strong supporter of the military and resigned as
Secretary of the Navy (under President Reagan) when he was instructed to reduce
the naval force structure. His son Jimmy is an enlisted US Marine whose unit was
deployed to Iraq in 2006.

Give me a Democrat like that and I'll vote for him.

i was kind of wondering what newlyweds are doing out of their hotel room ;)

man i bet that was a fascinating library..where is that located at?

i agree, I thought it was strange how the Dems couldnt come up with someone with more experiance, especially since they control the senate..perhaps someone with military background. Thats my take on this, Mccains got the military background and Obama seems to be more of a man for the people..too bad they cant wondertwin activate into one person...

In my town I live in, Independence, MO.

Truly fascinating. His daughter was recently buried in January there. I just read the book she wrote on him, and his presidency. Absolutely amazing!

Ruthie just LOVED reading the snippets of Truman's daily schedule. Truman loved to write little notes next to them about the individuals he met with. Things like "This gentleman wants to be a judge" and "Pesky so and so!"!!

Was truly a humbling experience.

Harry Truman has to be one our last greatest presidents.

He was a WWI veteran having served as an officer in an artillery unit.
He had the fortitude to make the decision about ending WWII by using
nuclear weapons and he had no qualms about firing General McArthur
when it appeared that his military policies in Korea were leading us to
a nuclear war with Russia and/or Red China.

Babs @ Sat Oct 25, 2008 6:45 pm wrote:
I feel totally beat up in this whole argument. I posted a video that questioned Obama's citizenship which is an actual real law suit being investigated and was not thrown out of the courts. (by the way I deleted it because it was the source of contention for people)

I found it interesting and wondered what people thought about it. I didn't think I'd be labeled as some kind of trouble maker for doing so. I some how got blamed for the disagreements you've been having. It is disturbing to me to be pulled into a clash in personalities because I posted the source of a lawsuit. I may not agree with Sheree on her choice for president, but I respect her views. Ericlater has made some intelligent posts that I actually agree with, but when you both started going at it I just tuned out those posts. I don't like name calling or negative posts, so I choose not to get involved, but since I'm continually dragged back into it I felt the overwhelming need to state my feelings.

Please please stop using me as a reason to continue bickering. You both obviously have touched a sore spot with each other that has nothing to do with me, exept the fact I started the post. If I could take it completely away I would, but I don't think that would make you both like each other.

Babs, This is the first time ever that I have been in an open forum, and chatted back and forth online to various topics. And in doing so, I found out that it doesn't take long to get a good feel for the different personalities, just by by what's said, and the way it's presented. Now with that being said, one thing I know is that you are no trouble maker of any kind. As a matter of fact, I have picked up on how you actually have a way of helping to smooth things out on occasion, when you can. So I just want to say that, I hpoe you did'nt spend more than 30 seconds thinking about the trouble maker thing.
Also, I agree with knightshow about the self moderation, we are adults, aren't we?
If a video clip can't be posted without all hell breaking loose, then they might as well delete the whole lounge period. Nothing at all was wrong with doing that in any way, shape, or form, only some of the behavior here.
I know this is a very sensitive time, and a sensitive topic, with the economy, and all that we see happening daily. Hopefully times like this might pull us together soon, instead of apart, because when the election's over, we are pretty much in the same boat.
I think we have all learned something from this thread, so thanks for posting it Babs. Ron

Nobody labeled Babs a troublemaker. Nobody. All threads that are posted are subject to interpretation by the reader. I've sent a PM to Babs and posted three or four times in here that I don't believe there was any malicious intent on Babs' part.

This discussion has been civil and respectful 98% of the time. For a political thread that's gone on for 15 pages I'd call that a successful result.

I don't venture in here very often these days. I certainly don't regret taking part in this thread, I have found it very interesting and enlightening. I think there are a lot of good people here with strong opinions and a passion for what you believe in. I'm glad to know all of you and I'm glad I stumbled in here. I think we all want the same thing in the end.

I will echo Boatman and say thanks for posting it Babs.

Now I will tip toe out of here..

actually I think you all (with the exception of maybe Ron) missed Babs point.

She does not want to be the meat in your sandwich. Babs allow me to make the first move toward an apology for anything I may have said that made you feel like you were a scapegoat

Good grief. Why do ya suppose so many people lose their heads when politics is brought up?

In this great country we live in (yes, I still believe we're a great country) we're brought up to believe we have the right to speak our minds and (hopefully) not face recriminations. We have the right to have our own thoughts and opinions, and our Constitution guarantees us the right to speak them aloud. In my years here at KS/SS I have never, NEVER, known Sheree to post one negative remark about anyone. She is an extremely unbiased, knowledgeable and intelligent woman who bears no ill will to any particular person or group of people.

If politics can't be discussed reasonably and peacefully, without rancor, in a public forum please keep your opinions to yourself. Walking away gets you much more respect than personal attacks on valued members of this community.

If you don't agree with my opinion oh well, I'll learn to live with it. After all, it is my opinion isn't it.

Peace

thank you Cathy for your testimony of sheree. I agree with you 100%. If there is anyone thats even close to a victim in this thread, it is her. Its kind of funny, that everytime we start talking about interesting stuff and getting along (like the Truman stuff), someone drudges up the Babs thing. Us "bad people" are over it, how bout you saints?

I am learning a lot about the US Presidential Election from this thread and those links. I had been heavily involve in politic in the past. I was Op Director of 2 past elections for my MP( Fed) and 1 State Seat. Now I don't talk about politic anymore.

There wouldn't be enough space left on the KS server if Kappy got in on this! LOL He's still busy perfecting his singing voice anyway. :)
