Is there a way to run multiple monitors with BOTH VGA and S-Video outputs on my laptop at the SAME time?
My monitor is VGA and one of my venues just installed S-Video to hook into their system. I have no S-Video inputs on my monitor, only VGA....

If i'm not mistaken I thought the VGA is just paralleled from the laptop monitor so it should display what the monitor on the laptop is displaying along with the s-video as extended for the lyrics.
Hook it up & see!

Actually, it all depends on your graphics card or chip what it will do. Almost all of the graphics card will let you do two screens out of three. Which means, if you have a main screen being used on the laptop, you will only be able to use one of the other two outputs. Same thing for desktop. If you have 3 outputs, you can only use two out of three.

There may be a chipset that will let you do more than 2 outputs but I haven't seen one yet.

Yeah, I'd like to see it too. There is someone here who claims they do three screens from a Dell, but I looked into doing it myself and cannot confirm this.

Lon, you can "extend the desktop" onto either the VGA or the S-Video on every one I have seen. The notebook display and VGA are not in lockstep.

I use a $35.00 device from monoprice.com which takes a VGA in and outputs an SVideo, RCA, and VGA all three.

Pretty much all laptops will let you do one of the following:

* Laptop screen only
* Laptop screen and S-video out (+)
* Laptop screen and VGA out (+)

Of the above (+) - you are often allowed:

* Same on both display (cloned)
* Different on both display (extended desktop)

I swear I once (under XP) had my ATI powered HP notebook do all 3, but I can't seem to get that working any more.

So to answer your question - no not that I know of.

But how to solve your issue?

Take your VGA-out and split it (a cheap $20 connector will do this - 1m -> 2f Dsub). One of them into the monitor. The other into a modulator or such that will output s-video?

I looked at the link and it discusses output from all types of devices other than a computer. Will the device actually allow a desktop computer, without a graphics card that supports S-video to convert VGA to an S-video signal?

I've been looking for something that can do that for months. I would be extremely impressed if this would solve my "problem"

Thanx

Yes. I can tell you what I do with it a couple of times a week:
[pre]
Laptop VGA out --> Monoprice Converter |--> VGA 15" LCD monitor for singer lyrics
|
|--> X10 wireless video sender Receiver --> Bar TV
Receiver --> Bar TV
[/pre]
You can actually drive three displays off of it. One VGA, one RCA composite, one S-Video.

I just received the device and I am definitely confused about something. It was my understanding that the device provided for S-video, VGA and composite OUTPUTS. Instead, while it supports INPUTS from S-video, composite and VGA there is only one output - to VGA.

I have been unable to get it to send an S-video signal to a TV. What am I missing?

Perhaps mckyj57 linked to the wrong item, it looks like he provided a link to the one that converts rca and s-video to vga instead of vga to rca or s-video.
I think this is the product he meant to link to: http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2

It is a vga to rca or s-video converter.
