Lonman, yes, I'm aware of that. I was using the 5 minutes before close thing as a joke, actually. It's something I've been actually timing out at karaoke places the past two weeks; checking out the amount of singers and when the list closes. I think what's really gonna matter with this is the average song length of those requested, and the amount of time left. I guess, it will vary by session...
It will definitely vary per night, however figure about 4.5 minutes per singer & you should be pretty close taking into account some songs are a little longer & some are shorter. It will also depend on whether you let a song finish until the end - as in an auto mode that some programs use, or do you manually fade out an ending & get the next song started as the singer is entering the stage? When I was running discs I could actually run a show faster than with a computer because i'd always have 1 disc cued up to the point of the where the music would start or to a point in a song (like NIB - Black Sabbath, Screaming In The Night - Krokus, Holy Diver - Dio), these songs have unecessarily long useless intros for karaoke - there is no need for 1 minute of bass solo
other than the fact to keep the song true to it's original - but even the radio station don't play this part of the song. While the current singer is leaving the stage i'd use the outro of that song to ask for the appluase & what not & call the next singer, most of the singer know to hurry up so I could actually fade into the next song as they are walking up - this added enough time throughout a night to add an extra 5-7 people in - may not sound like a big deal but the customers appreciated the fact that we could get them all up. Just cutting the outros can also add enough time throughout the night to add a couple more songs to the list. Some outros are so darn long, they just aren't needed to be heard - especially on a busy night when you are trying to get as many singers up.
