Too many people are followers. Joe is a right winger, though he has moved a little towards the middle in the last year or two. It's the same thing with charities, they all think their cause is the most important, and needs the most money. In my opinion, the Republican party used way too much fear, in their quest for the presidency....the vast majority of it being simply untrue..... ...I can't believe they got so many people to believe in some of that bull sh!t.......ps......do you think Joe really cries as much as he said?.... :)

As someone that didn't vote for Obama, I was VERY impressed with both McCain's Concession speach, as well asl Obama's eloquent acceptance speach.

Sadly, though, this election was ALL about race. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, for the eight years we've suffered under Bush FORCED people into a change, no matter what. ANY Republican that would try to run after Bush's fiasco of a legacy was doomed to failure. It just saddens me that many people voted for Obama merely because of the color of his skin. There have been many interviews on the street where people asked about bogus things that Obama stood for, and people nodded their heads like the sheeple they were... even when the things being said were actually what McCain stood for, NOT Obama.

Pathetic that our voting ability is reduced to a mere popularity contest like something out of a Junior High School Homecoming Dance, and Obama was elected Most Likely to Make A Change.

And so a change has been ushered in. I understand in many ways, we needed this glass ceiling to be broken. Now that it has, we can next concentrate on getting the BEST person in the office the next time.

Like Mike (texasML), I too am worried about the future. It bothers me that many countries support Obama. Hopefully this is because they're tired of Bush offending all the other countries out there.

For someone that spoke so eloquently of patriotism, I for one will be watching to be certain that he indeed fulfills his vows!

No Eric, he didn't, but as you're from the UK you don't know first hand what race relations have been like (and still are in some places) in America. It is truly an amazing accomplishment.

Oh I do know what a big deal it is, I know exactly what ig signified - IF you still care about colour.

I personally do see the symbolism behind it - but I'd rather think people voted on causes ratehr than colour. Which again is an achievement within itself - putting colour aside and solely basing it on causes.

However, I would argue that personality was more swaying than colour, in this case.

And, um, Eric? Who is Eric?

My apologies, my only excuse is all the negativity that has come about from what was supposed to be a positive thread about how far this country has come.

This thread has become a good example of the effect racism can have. I'm sorry I started it

Who knows? He may very well be a softie. All I know is he made some very valid statements and that's the point I wanted to make. We are America and we should move forward instead of dredging up all this nonsense. Make it better people, don't write it off before it even has the chance to happen.

I'm outta here. Again, Peace to All.

I had a grandfather that was in Mexico Missouri and as a young kid was there when they emancipated the slaves. His accounts are totally different form what is pesented now. They were fed better and before anybody else. there was a love and bonds between most. In later years it was that ten percent that got us in the predicaments in the last century.

He told stories about his best friend who was the sun of one those freed. His favorite one was when they were fishing and he pulled out a crawdad. Jasper "I tole you we shudna went by that graveyard last night!". He died in the early 60's and his last words were "JasperJasper where are you??" Just typing this brings tears to my eyes.

It has nothing to do with race It is the radical ten percent with hidden agendas. They operate from hate, greed and no regard for mankind or their country. S there is no single entity of god there is none of the devil. But the devil is busy.

I have a larger concern about why should it take billions of dollars run for president? They all make these promises then mired in the over complicated and corrupt crap in DC. I dont care who gets in this country has been a down hill decay since the 60's. Blame is put on non significant factors but read the above again. There are things now that are expensive and at one time were free. The Bill Of Human Rights does not exist anymore for it has been slaughtered by greed and corruption.

There are three things that need to be dominant now. They are Hope, Faith and Love. That's what this country was founded upon in the beginning. Now we have despair, no faith and Hate..The answer in restoring the previous If we can do that we have a chance If not we are doomed.

I think it is good that you started this thread. That way everyone should realize that just because the election went the way it did, it does not mean that "change" is really going to take place. If anything, I really see that things are going to become really tense over the race issue. That is all the media is focusing on! To me, he is not African American (if he really was born in the U.S. I am still not satisfied with the answer to that) to me, he is an American. I dont look at the hispanics and call them Mexican Americans. I tell them they are Americans! The media is creating even greater division by constantly bringing up the issue. If they want to celebrate his election, they need to focus on what he really plans on "changing." The problem is, as far as I am concerned, nobody knows what he REALLY intends to change. Then for many of us, many things he may try to change could cost this country its freedom. Let him have a chance? Not on your life! He is going to get one, but I am going to be watching and so will many Americans, with very wary, cautious eyes! Sorry, but that is just the way it is! And it is not a color issue on my part.

Mikey, you and I can disagree and we will still be friends! I respect your feelings. I think you respect mine! That is good.

I agree with you 100 percent. Honestly., if the John Mccaine who made that concession speech had been running instead of the John Mccain shmear tactic guy, I am quite sure he would have won. As for blacks voting for blacks, can we not agree that Palin was thrown on the republican ticket to grab the Hillary votes. Is it not the same to be a woman and vote for a woman as it is to be a black and vote for the first black president. Does that race not deserve a chance to prove their pride. Its almost like most of you talk like the blacks are not American and do not deserve a vote. a vote is a vote for whatever reason. you all voted Bush a second term cause he was gonna stand up to taliban.. I hate war, should i accuse all of his voters as voting for him just because they were hawkish.. A VOTE IS A VOTE..blacks have earned them as much as whites and if it bugs you than YOU guys get out and canvas your neighborhood to get the whites to vote white. by ther way Matt, the only part aimed at you is my agreeing about the speeches. the rest of the rant was aimed at the bigots on this site.

I'm happy for the guy. I didn't vote at all though. It didn't have anything to do with color. I just don't know my politics very well.
Hopefully, he'll honor his stated commitments and not make people sorry they voted for him.
Obama seems very professional. I'm not worried at all. :)

It sounds extreme, but I believe another knife has been stuck in the back of
American independence by the voting majority having put tax and spend liberals
in the White House and Congress.

I don’t believe this new government is capable of leading the world, only becoming
a dutiful follower of the United Nations and others in favor of the so-called "New
World Order" which really means big government Socialism and an end to individual
rights.

It’s up to the President elect to prove me wrong, but I don’t think his radical
backers will let him.

Two things most concern me. It's not a matter of "if" but [1] when will the next
foreign attack take place on American soil and with the enemies of Israel endorsing
Obama's presidency; [2] when will another war begin in the Middle East, this time
between Israel and Iran?

Why are they celebrataing in the middle east even our enemies. Because they have somebody they can manipulate again which they will do. You can say what you want about Bush and believe all the lies but we are hurting again. All the progress we did make over there at a great cost to my comrades will go down the drain. I have been over there too. you dont talk to them. You are operating with emotional schisms produced by manipulators I am deducing with hard cold facts. Forget your emotions and back off and look at the big picture and use some logic.

all due respect ML, why is it people equate an African American to being an Arab. Obama is a Christian. Obama is an American, and now Obama is our president. Have we not come far enough to not mistrust those who are different from us. I am PROUD that we have finally overcome our divide. NEVER in my life did I think Id see an African American as President. I can honestly say that the white guy whos run this Country for the last 8 years has dug us a hole that is so deep my grandchildren will be paying for his evil ways. Seriously, noone can tell me that Obama can do any worse than Bush did. Its time for us Americans to believe in our Unity once again. I think all these minorities crying right now on my TV is sign that we have finally become the UNITED States of America. I am willing to take a chance on someone who knows society from the bottom, and not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. my son got his (@$%&#!) kicked today in school because he voted for Obama in a mock election in school. He is 10 years old and now he is traumatized by the whole freedom to choose concept. Those little 10 year old thugs are the terrorists. and I believe that attitude starts at home with a cynicle Grandfather who calls our 44th president of the United States an Arab and a sell out before he even gets into office... Thats just MY opinion sir. Sorry our new president has ruined your rose colored glasses world.

I voted for McCain and was disappointed when he lost. I listened to both speeches after. McCain spoke eliquently. I have tremendous respect for him and how he handled the loss. Although I believe he was the better man for president I am not bitter.

Obama's speech to me was very inspirational. It gave me hope to see so many different ethnicities in the crowd and countries across the world excited to see him elected. He has the majority of the Senate behind him and the world. I think he has every opportunity to do great things. I'm thinking positively about what he can do because of this.

I never looked at the race aspect of it all because it meant nothing to me. When I listened to his speech and it dawned on me what it meant to African Americans for him to be elected, I got teary eyed.

There is no reason to split hairs over who won. It is done and there is nothing we can do about it. The only thing we can do now is follow what's happening and let our representives know our feelings. We still have a voice in what happens with our country. The president isn't a dictator.

Wow what a bunch of radical, redneck, conservatives there are here! You are porbably going to all drive around with bumper stickers stating "He's NOT MY President!" too huh? I learned a bit about some of my "friends" (so called) about racism being alive & well (no it's not about color).....puhlease!
Tell you what, I am a devout republican (regardless of the issues...isn't that how a republican is supposed to vote?) & voted for Mr. Obama simply because of the IDIOT McCain chose for his running mate, I was all for him until that point. She had absolutely no business being chosen & dumbdrums is correct in the assumption the only reason she was chosen is to try to bag the women voters that Hilary had.

CONGRATULATIONS OBAMA!!!!

Why is it people can vote for somebody because of the color of his skin and its alright, but if we disagree with him we are racist?

I am so confused. Let's see. The African-American population in the US - 12.5%. The White population of the US - 80%. How is this a racially motivated election? Someone tell me how there is a subversive movement by minority to elect a Black president?

I think the person who is most wanted by the population (or electoral college) won the race. The end of story.

Before you moan about the loss and be afraid of the future of the US, just look at the economy failure brought on by the previous administration. I have never had it so bad in my entire life, personally. I think a lot of people who thought like me voted for a change. According to polls (this was Fox so you can's claim liberal bias) said 87% of the people thought the most important issue this election was the economy.

One more thing.

Those of you who stated they are afraid for their country because Obama is elected.

Let's discuss with facts rather than just emotions and bias.

What exactly are you afraid of? What do you think Obama will do that will get our country in to failure mode? I would like to know specific issue with facts to support it.

If you are that scared, shouldn't you be able to articulate it in to fact supported statement? Now, don't get emotional about it, just state the facts.
