Never claimed you were a racist - actually stated radical, redneck, conservatives , I said the racist statement about my friends (so called). When they send me racist jokes - example, a cartoon with an Obama on the lawn of the "white" house staring at a sign stating whites only. An email with a line grab you guns, a coon is trying to get into the whitehouse. Yesterday one emailed me early in the day stating that Obama was in the lead, but that will all change when the white people get off work & go vote.....THAT IS RACIST!!!! They are also idiots, it's a new age, quit your racist attitudes. I no longer consider these people my friends, luckily we weren't real close to begin with, but still.

I voted for McCain and was disappointed when he lost. I listened to both speeches after. McCain spoke eliquently. I have tremendous respect for him and how he handled the loss. Although I believe he was the better man for president I am not bitter.

Obama's speech to me was very inspirational. It gave me hope to see so many different ethnicities in the crowd and countries across the world excited to see him elected. He has the majority of the Senate behind him and the world. I think he has every opportunity to do great things. I'm thinking positively about what he can do because of this.

I never looked at the race aspect of it all because it meant nothing to me. When I listened to his speech and it dawned on me what it meant to African Americans for him to be elected, I got teary eyed.

There is no reason to split hairs over who won. It is done and there is nothing we can do about it. The only thing we can do now is follow what's happening and let our representives know our feelings. We still have a voice in what happens with our country. The president isn't a dictator.

very well put Babs. I dont expect people to be happy that had voted for Mccain, but cant we give Obama a chance before we condemn him. I like the fact that you were moved by his speech. I have a problem with those that got their fingers in their ears going "La la la la" when Obama speaks. Just give him a chance. and like you said "we" have the power to change, not him. He is not a dictator, after all, he is more our quarterback and if he sucks at his position, we can bench him . :)

Here's a story. I grew up with a devout Republican Grandmother who raised me. That's as much as I know about it. I never knew her reason for being a Republican, or her reason for not being a Democrat.
And if I would've applied myself more as a kiddo or teenager, I could be more informed on Government...socialist and conservative.
I could be wrong, but over the years from what I remember to date, the Democrats seemed to have been more conservative when it comes to "war".
The only presidents I remember are from Nixon to date. And that was a scandalous affair (Nixon). Then Ford, Reagan, Carter, Clinton, and The Bushs'.
I might've left someone out? See, I guess I haven't been very active in excercising my rights as a somebody into adulthood on the politics.
I have a daughter who's a junior in highschool that knows more than I do right now!

I do know that race has always seemed to be an issue in this country all of my life. And I wasn't born in the slavery days! I don't know how many of my ancestors were slave bearers and all that crap!
I do know the way people are classified in this country though.....minorities? Just that word suggests that certain other people aren't as good as.........???
So why is it that minorities are so bitter about something that happened a century ago? Probably because they are still being classified as "minorities".
I know many so called "minorities" who would give their souls just to be WHITE so they could be considered just Americans! White what? White bread crackers? White trash?
I think I fall somewhere between the cracker and trash (financially middle-class), so I'm sure as hell nobody wants to be me!
But people are hurt! And so begat the Jesse Jacksons' and Al Sharptons' of society.
There has never been a good reason for "minorities" to believe that this country also stands behind them.
If all it takes is an election of a so called "minority" to change the way society is, I'm all for it. But we're talking years of hate for the white man being taught by a couple generations of Moms and Dads, Papaws and Mamaws and years of discrimination here! But also years of hate and deceit bestowed upon them by the white man! Still!

Obviously Obama has something to offer or he would've never been elected to "any" office to begin with.
And for the record, I've never voted for anyone....ever. I have no racial issues about the election. When I learned the results, I actually felt GREAT! What a burden lifted for so many people!

I am so confused. Let's see. The African-American population in the US - 12.5%. The White population of the US - 80%. How is this a racially motivated election? Someone tell me how there is a subversive movement by minority to elect a Black president?

I think the person who is most wanted by the population (or electoral college) won the race. The end of story.

Before you moan about the loss and be afraid of the future of the US, just look at the economy failure brought on by the previous administration. I have never had it so bad in my entire life, personally. I think a lot of people who thought like me voted for a change. According to polls (this was Fox so you can's claim liberal bias) said 87% of the people thought the most important issue this election was the economy.

:oh yeah: great comment Eban...

I can honestly say that the white guy whos run this Country for the last 8 years has dug us a hole that is so deep my grandchildren will be paying for his evil ways. Seriously, noone can tell me that Obama can do any worse than Bush did. Its time for us Americans to believe in our Unity once again. I think all these minorities crying right now on my TV is sign that we have finally become the UNITED States of America. I am willing to take a chance on someone who knows society from the bottom, and not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. my son got his (@$%&#!) kicked today in school because he voted for Obama in a mock election in school. He is 10 years old and now he is traumatized by the whole freedom to choose concept. Those little 10 year old thugs are the terrorists. and I believe that attitude starts at home with a cynicle Grandfather who calls our 44th president of the United States an Arab and a sell out before he even gets into office... Thats just MY opinion sir. Sorry our new president has ruined your rose colored glasses world.

Speaking of Jesse Jackson -

I hated seeing him in the audience when Obama delivered his speech. I think he is a horrible representive of the African American people. I live in Chicago and know of all his corruptness. It made me want to puke when I saw him with a tear in his eye. He is probably thinking of how he can make money off of this president. What a disgrace this man is to the American people. Aaaarg!

You may want to stock up on a supply of air sickness bags as more of the
Jesse Jackson and Marion Barry types come out of the woodwork to be

I saw that too Babs. The tears in his eyes. It's just ignorance that breeds ignorance. He presents himself as some sort of hero to African Americans, but is only spreading more ignorance.
But can anyone blame the African American society for needing something to believe in?
Somebody has to speak up on their behalf with the majority of the US being white?

What I'd like to know is, why didn't the all-white majority vote Republican to prevent such a so-called "travesty" to what this country stands for?

Could it be that alot of whites are tired of the bull$hit created by Corporate America?

One more thing.

Those of you who stated they are afraid for their country because Obama is elected.

Let's discuss with facts rather than just emotions and bias.

What exactly are you afraid of? What do you think Obama will do that will get our country in to failure mode? I would like to know specific issue with facts to support it.

If you are that scared, shouldn't you be able to articulate it in to fact supported statement? Now, don't get emotional about it, just state the facts.

The country is in failure mode now (thanks to the last person I voted for twice  ). Can't get much worse IMO! Those afraid are afraid of something different that might actually work. It's the same thing every 4 years, the new president is going to drive the country into turmoil while the old president or the one that didn't win was great...well at least we can't say that about the old president this time! Thing is if the one that didn't win was so great, why did they lose in the first place? This wasn't even close, electoraly it was a landslide! Even the popular vote was much higher to the winner than normally. Obviously if everyone was so afraid of this change they wouldn't have voted the way they did...or they were afraid Palin might actually become president in the event McCain died in office...lol.

Wow, seems to be an awful lot of name calling in here. I don't recall singling out anyone or referring to anyone in a derogatory manor or with any disrespect. Can't we all just get along, oh wait, that's been used before. I think perhaps one or two people might have missed my point in an earlier post. As Eban pointed out, almost 50% of whites did vote for Obama, while at the same time as reported on the news, I believe their exact wording was "virtually all the blacks and two thirds of the Hispanic voted for Obama", I was just the messenger. The point I was making was apparently race did come into play, but it wasn't in the manor that some have suggested. As to why I didn't vote for Obama, that's simple, he was not qualified enough for me, a Junior Senator isn't whom I want running the country. That and the fact that he promised tax reform when he was running for the Illinois State Senate and never once authored a bill to achieve it didn't set well with me. I also don't like his position on Immigration reform. I actually looked up the voting history on both candidates to help me be an informed voter. There you have it, I don't know why the other 56 million americans didn't vote for Obama, but there are some of my reasons. This may surprise some of you, but I'm registered as an independent, and have voted democrat in the past, just couldn't do it this time. It's over now and we have to hope for the best, this is one time I'd love to be wrong. God Bless America. Peace....Out.

I for one have a renewed Pride in being an American. Future generation will look back on this time as the new beginning. This is big! and never changing. We had our choice and that day has gone. Now its a new day with new choices. America made the right one yesterday. Let us make the right one today.

When I join the Army I took an oath. An oath to the President of the United States Of America. And it kind of stuck with me.

Well the Russia from my house thing was actually an SNL spoof - nopt sure if she actually said that word for word, but comedians loved her for sure. Their spoofs on her interviews didn't have to include any rewrites. A couple of SNL's funniest bits were on Palin & the Couric interview, it was pretty much word for word - well to a point. The Palin/Biden debate sppof was pretty good as well, again, alot of it the dialogue very close to the actual debate.
She was not a very bright sounding speaker whether she is bright or not, couldn't tell it from much of her interviews.

Since when is it the schools responsibility to teach manners, that's the parents job. When I was in school, my parents were very much involved with my school and how I conducted myself in public. Like Katrina was the governments fault. If you are speaking of the lack of transport and shelter for the New Orleans residents , that blame falls on the local and state government. Seems other areas in the stricken Katrina zone got off their collective asses and started cleaning up and rebuilding soon after the weather cleared and the water receded. 9/11 would have caught any admin by surprise. That's why it's called a SURPRISE TERRORIST ATTACK!!!!! It caught the dems by surprise as well.
