I hated seeing him in the audience when Obama delivered his speech. I think he is a horrible representive of the African American people. I live in Chicago and know of all his corruptness. It made me want to puke when I saw him with a tear in his eye. He is probably thinking of how he can make money off of this president. What a disgrace this man is to the American people. Aaaarg!
I must admit that I don't know Jesse Jackson well enough. I don't really care what he does or did. I do give him credit for showing some emotion for something that he may have believed for many years would not happen. It wasn't just him. I have seen thousands of African Americans in tears of disbelief. Many of them said it will never happen in their life time. I saw an article on local newspaper about a 95 year old black woman crying because she never thought it would happen.
There are good people and bad people in this world. Some take advantage of everyone. Can we just take the moment as it is, a political history being made, rather than comment negatively on people who were there last night? I mean are you going say the same thing about Oprah? She made his campaign happen and I be she was proud and happy. She show some emotion as well. Why not pick on something positive from this campaign rather than negative?

It was the biggest smear campaign I have ever seen. Just because she clings to the old values and shows true grit she is ignorant and arrogant!!
Even if she was on the other side I think the press showed unrestrained bias and had their own agenda. Now that they accomplished their purpose she will be forgotten. From this campaign that will be the I thing I remember most.
I too took an oath years ago and if I dont like Obama I will never call him a liar or insult him as commander-in chief And if called I would give him everything I have. In 4 years I wonder what we can blame him about.
Now we will see what they do and in 4 years the bandwagon wont be as great.

She definetly showed on several occasions, she is ignorant as well as arrogant. Why is is that someone who disagrees with you is called ignorant? lmao....ok, this isn't my dance, but I just had to put my two cents in........didn't you watch any of her interviews......didn't you hear her answers to so many simple questions, when she didn't have something to read off of in response.......or can you see Russia from your house too?........lmao
I wasn't referring to Palin directly, just the inference that if one has an opinion that differs, that person is ignorant. Hey, I thought Palin was pretty cool at first but listening to her was grating on the brain.

OK folks, reality check time. First of all the headlines "First African-American elected President", is incorrect. Mr Obama is as much white as black. If he had been born with causcasian skin would they say the same thing. I doubt it. Regardless a human is a human.
Now as for the politics. The troops in Iraq will still be there for a while. To completely pull out immediately would be a disservice (yes they shouldn't be there in the first place, but a withdrawal has to be done properly)
The troops that will be leaving Iraq will be sent to Afghanistan and bolster troops there.
Don't look for universal medical care anytime soon. You can't afford it, especially in these economic times. Ditto for environmental initiatives he is proposing.
NAFTA changes? Ain't going to happen.
Lastly he is no JFK. But then again if JFK gad not been assassinated I doubt his presidency would have been all that favourable. Remember he sent the troops to Vietnam
For the average person, the next years will be like the last ones. Geting up , going to work, collecting a pay cheque.

Good post Tim and the most accurate As far as race is now he is neither one. He is the President of the United States of America. He better be capable of being all.
BTW JFK was my commander-in chief.

You must have been watching a different source than the rest of us because the biggest smear campaign was headed by the Republican Party. Then there was the whole deal with Palin going off on Obama about the Ayers connection which was totally bogus.....
Geez, this thread was supposed to be about the accomplishment our country made yesterday! I give up.

lets see....first he won because he is black....and now he is too white to be seen as the first African American president.. I cant believe you want to take that away from him. his dad was from Africa, and his mom was American........hmmm African.....American..................African..American...........African/American......wow, im confused man...must be a Canadian thing....you sure seem really critical about our government...is your Country so perfect you can (@$%!) about ours?

It was an accomplishment of a man that overcame all the odds and became president. I admire many things about him and like him. I will support him and never show him the disrespect that everybody shows Bush. My comments were after 8 years of frustration from lies and slanted press against our President and Commander-in-chief It doesnt happen to the other side.
The history they talk about I was there dealing military stress as well as the things they present and dealt with all the demonstrations.
Thats a smear campaign.. Hon us old people have many scars and bad memories and we will get emotional but in awhile it is forgotten. The condition of this nation is because of congress not the executive branch. More lies..

you are a good American Ollie, who fights for our freedom and believes in the American way. Unfortunately everything has changed so much and all we can do sometimes is hang on tight and believe in each other to weather all the storms. My only argument with all these people that have already given up on our new President, is why not give it a chance. Perhaps he will do amazing things..perhaps he will lead us to destruction, but we all gotta start believing in the good in people and the strength in our country if we are to survive. I knew there would be anger just due to our competitive nature as people. We dont like to lose. But now that it is over i gotta say to those who continue to (@$%!) that it is on them, not Obama. He worked harder to get elected and that is that. Its not like some magic person waved a wand and said here is your armageddan America. More people believe in Obama than dont, so they gotta suck it up, cause after all that is democracyh. the same one you fought valiantly for. Once we all settle down things will hopefully move forward. I totally mis read you in that last thread where we got into it. i think you are allright my friend, and no matter what happens, keep that fire in you to want to protect this country

dumdrums if he gets good advisers from all sides and listens to the best military offers ever produced maybe hill will provide us with the right changes. God knows we need them. The problems were caused by a major split of the radicals from both parties. THere will be a honeymmon where they are all united for the good of the country then the shyat will hit the fan again and w will suffer again.

Ollie, I have no doubt he will surround himself with good advisers. He has definitely ignited excitement at a time when we could all use some.
In the town I live in, people came out in record numbers yesterday to vote. Young, old, black, white, hispanic, asian.... all stood in long lines. The fact is, we have chosen this man by a landslide. How or why doesn't matter anymore. The race is over. Let's give the man a chance. This is a great moment in history. Can't we take a moment to feel some pride in the historical significance without feeling that it's all about race?
This country is in sorry shape... we need unity now more than ever. I'm already seeing sites about impeaching Obama. Jeeez! Ridiculous! How are we supposed to heal this nation if we continue to be divided about our President?
BTW, McCain gave a very gracious speech last night. I was very moved. He's a true American patriot who is putting this all behind him for the good of the country. Let's all try to do the same and give him a chance.

Dumbdrums, do you even know what our leader is called, what his or her name is, or what his or her polical affiliation is without going to a source. Can you name our states or is that shires or provinces are. I've been to the US, have worked with your military and partied with Americans, buy products from both countries, etc.
I put out a legitmate question and we both know African-American means black or in the anthroplogical world, negroid (and no that is not a bad word).
Again, looking at it realistically, your country is in poor economic shape. Medicare and environmental issues require a hell of a lot of money. Where I live 41 cents of every revenure dollar, taken in by the government of my province (an answer of an earlier question) is spent on health care. So yes I know what I'm talking about. Universal Medical Healthcare is unsustainable without very heavy taxation.

i do know that your money is called a "Loony"....ironic isnt it. Other than that I could care less about your Government. That is for the Canadians to deal with. Why you want to sit here and bash MY country and its choices makes no sense to me. I dont care that youve crossed the border to "party" with us (probably cause you saved a few bucks on the currency exchange) im sure it has something to do with a strip club and a lot of tequilla. Ive been into your country and although environmentally it was beautiful, I could care less about its government. Let me guess you have some kind of parlimentary system somewhat linked to the Queen of England..whoop tee doo and you think you have a right to criticise our government. Better look aroundd you Timberlea, and you'll see behind the beavers and the Leafs, there really isnt much to brag about your home...so why dont you leave ours alone.
by the way, your sense of what a true African American is, is insulting to me as well as ignorant....

i totally agree Sheree. He handled that with as much dignity as I have ever seen someone handle it. I really liked that Mccain, where was that guy during the race...

African American also Af·ri·can-A·mer·i·can (fr-kn--mr-kn) KEY
NOUN:
A Black American of African ancestry. See Usage Note at black.
black (blk) KEY
ADJECTIVE:
black·er , black·est
Being of the color black, producing or reflecting comparatively little light and having no predominant hue.
Having little or no light: a black, moonless night.
often Black
Of or belonging to a racial group having brown to black skin, especially one of African origin: the Black population of South Africa.
Of or belonging to an American ethnic group descended from African peoples having dark skin; African-American.
i would have to say he has brown skin and belongs to african origin (his father is kenyan)
the only thing worse than playing the race card TimberLea, is denying a man his ancestory altogether.

Dumbdrums, I do believe I hit a chord. It's attitudes like yours that gives all Americans the "Ugly American" label all over the world (which is why many Americans who have travelled in Europe sew on a Canadian flag on their backsack). Thankfully I know not all Americans are like that.
BTW our currency is known as a dollar. Our dollar coin has a Common Loon on the back and i known as a Loonie. Our two dollar coin is known as a Twonie. Why should you know? Here's a little secret for you. We are your largest trading partner. Those who are ignorant of others is truly ignorant.
BTW where did I ever criticize your government? I made observations as to affordability and the true ethnic make up of the next president. I wish him luck because he will need it (so would McCain if he had been elected).

if you dont think you havent been critical of our country, you are as loony as your "dollar"..you have this attitude of rubbing our noses in all of our shortcomings (healthcare, military, black president) believe me, everyone here can see you for what you are. Perhaps we should start a Canada threasd and we can let you know everything that is wrong with your government. and how can my attitude make us look ugly, if all ive been talking about was how positive a TRUE African American elect can give this country some fresh air. You sir, have made this discussion ugly, not me. im just arguing with everyone thats been saying that they are afraid for their future. and believe me, i work close to the border and your citizens come down here by the busload to get a little of that American Spirit, that you seem to find ugly...

It's not by choice, but ask any teacher.....a huge percentage of students today have poor manners, and before they can teach what they really need to teach in an orderly fashion, they must teach manners which go hand in hand with discipline, another thing they have to deal with.
Before 9/11, I saw a few talk shows, where they said terrorists would be using commercial aircraft as missles. It was already past experience, that terrorists wouldn't be hi-jacking planes just to go to Cuba anymore......the only surprise was how easy it was, and how blatently the terrorists went about it. A simple thing as cockpit doors not being made out of paper mache, a pilot armed with a small caliber pistol, or actually searching somebody who sets off the metal detector, as they waved the terrorists through which they have on video......no brain surgery here....more Reps than Dems involved here.....but my point is only, Republican leadership is no safer.......just like Reps are for less spending, smaller government......Myth, Lie, Bunk, Untrue....etc. etc....
