That's pretty f'd up in itself. I'd be finding a new church!

People should keep in him check just like any other president, but to tear him down before he has even done anything?, I don't believe helps anyone. errr honey when has america ever kept their presidents in check? if that were the case then surely Bush would have been on his tush last election
Well we can't always make them keep it in their pants. But we try.

When I first read your post Bill I thought it was some lady who said the whole quote. I can't believe the pastor actually said that. Wow you'd think he'd keep politics out of the sermon. Weren't people shocked?

Ask your pastor if he's ever used this in one of his sermons:
"God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform. He plants his footsteps in the sea, And rides upon the storm." - Light Shining Out of Darkness - William Cowper (1779)

The pastor did say "but God has His purpose" or something like that too. And that was it. Nothing more. And although I know him to be very conservative in his political views, he generally keeps it out of the sermon.
The entire congregation isn't a bunch of right wing fanatics. I figure the rest of us are there to keep them in check.
This church carried me through the darkest period of my life and largely because of that I'm still sticking around.

I wish you would have said that in your previous post. It makes better sense that way. But to assume that God will punish our Nation because of it is just wrong. Let's see what happens with our new President-elect. Let's give him a chance here. Does this woman actually believe that God is only for conservatives? Maybe she should join Pastor Phelps' Church in Kansas. Are there not Believers in other countries as well. Are there not Believers in other political parties? We conservatives do not hold the license to be Christian. I'm a conservative because I believe that is best for our country. God does not care about our political affiliation any more than He cares what kind of car we drive (although I think KIAs are of the devil ) He only cares that we love Him. I can think of several great Christians who are not conservative, MLK jr, Mother Theresa and others. I was in my youth a member of the Jesus People (JPUSA Chicago) in Milwaukee. They certainly were not conservatives. Let's keep conservatism in the political realm and out of the church. Strength of Country, fiscal responsibility. Pride. Patriotism! The Church can and is a powerful instrument to do God's will providing help and charity, medical needs, counsel. I think it's pretty arrogant to preach about helping the poor and in the next breath, preaching God hates liberals. OK...rant off.

There are people out there who honestly, to the letter, believe Obama to be the antichrist. Using half-quoted parts of revelations, they have actually convinced themselves he is the harbinger of doom.
Can someone please tell me what year it is???
I've seen that. In the late sixties, people who should have known better said that JFK was not killed and was alive on an island off Greece. Said that he was coming back as the anti-christ. They even cited scripture to prove it. *blink* *blink* WTF!!!

And there goes the media again for reporting on idiocy. Mr Obama is neither the Anti-Christ or the Messiah. even though there are people who believe either. He is a man with an uneviable job.
When I said he will not be able to afford his vision, ie Universal Health Care, that is not being critical, it's being realistic. Have we forgotten the sub-prime mortgage fiasco, which in part has brought us to the current financial crisis. It is not being critical when you tell someone who is making $30,000 that they cannot afford a $300,000 home.
I sometimes question the sanity of all politicians in the world who spend vast amounts of money for a relatively low pay ($400,000 for US President, 180,000 pounds for the British Prime Minister, $295,000 for the Canadian Prime Minister, 240,000 Euros for the Prime Minister of France, 242,000 Euros for the German Chancellor) and all the crap and headaches it comes with.

I just run into someone who firmly believes that also. While I don't believe that, or at least have any reason to believe that, it does make me want to do a little reading on it out of curiosity. Just wondering what it is exactly they are baseing that belief on.........Ron.......

[quote="Bill H. @ Thu Nov 06, 2008 1:27 pm"]To those who don't live here in the US, don't be deceived by the media coverage of the post election celebrations, which give the appearance that everyone is ecstatic over this result. This country is not 100% behind Obama by any means, and you are getting a taste of that here in this thread.
Although it was an electoral landslide, the popular vote was just a 6% swing. There are probably over 100 million Obama haters in the country and he hasn't even taken the oath of office yet.
Ok, just want to put things in perspective......about 133 million voted, representing 64% of registered voters. With early voting and absentee voting, I conclude, as do most experts, 36% didn't care who won. Now Obama took 52% to 46% for McCain. The highest percentage since Papa Bush(52%), and the highest for a Democrat since 1964(LBJ).
Now as far as the black vote goes, blacks vote for the Democratic candidate over 90% of the time, so it didn't matter that Obama was black.... now if the Republican presidential candidate is ever black, we can see if color makes a difference.....course Buba will be voting Dem for sure....lmao

Thru about 18 primaries I have heard all kinds of promises very seldom kept if any.
