I hope this can be done otherwise I will be burning the midnight oil for many nights.
I need to export emails from one persons computer to my own so as I can start up a data base for marketing. How the heck do I do this?
The alternative is to copy and paste every single email and other details from the other person's inbox going back to 2005 into a exel file which would take me weeks...bearing in mind I can only work nights on this so it would eat into my own time. No its not espionage...I have permission to do it, I just cant hold up the person who's computer I want to access. So if there is an easy way pleeeeeeeeze let me know.
We use outlook

Simple Vicki. Just ask them to please give up their email address and password to you, and to get themselves a new one. Woolah!!

(hope I was helpful) :D

Oh, nevermind.... Outlook wouldn't export them to a new comp anyhow. I think once their opened, they wont even show if you access online. (atleast my local service wont... once opened on the desktop, they can't be accessed from another comp)

Heck, might as well tell them you need them to give up their email address, password, AND computer. Yep, that's what I'd do.

Hi Morgan. There are two things you need to do, which are separate from each other. If you want to transfer mail from one computer to another, you only need to import the .pst file to your computer. First, you want to find out where the file is on his computer, just do a search with *.pst and you should be able to find it. Then copy those files to your computer and within Outlook, just import and you should have the emails.

If you want to put the email address in to a database, I don't know of any way to do that, other than doing it manually. I hope this helped. Good luck.

what would be even more helpful is to be able to read it off a sheet rather than going from one window (outlook) to another window (html) although I guess I can copy and paste

Morgan:

If the other persons computer has all the e-mails saved that you want why not just forward them from their e-mail account to yours.

you would probably have to do this a few at a time as to not fill up your e-mail and get kickbacks.

Morgan. If you don't want the email, the other way may be to put the time up front at your friend's computer and put the emails you want to the contact section of Outlook and just export the contact portion, not the email.

ben et al, thank you all so much for coming to my aid...gonna try this tomorrow. So will keep you posted. Ben I could do what you suggested over a period of several days...well actually not days, nights...it would have to be at a time she is not in. The phone etc goes non-stop with enquiries for functions etc. So I want the quickest shortest way to doing the job so as I can start this data base of clients

Vicki if your computers are networked it's an easy solution--get her to export her contacts to a common folder (server if you have one) then you can copy from there. After that it's cake to transfer to an Excel spreadsheet.

Do you need the actual emails or just her contacts?

I've had the same issues in the past. After experiencing corrupted .dbx files
back when I used Outlook Express 5, I purchased "R-Mail" which is a recovery
program. Haven't had any email problems for several years. It backs up the
files that I want to keep handy and I archive the old ones on CD.

Some additional info on exporting addresses:

ok I created a pst file and exported it to a usb flash then uploaded to my outlook at home and on my workstation at work...so I now have all her emails cloggin up my puters...but at least I can now start to create a data base of function enquiries. Once I have done that I can then start to contact them...I love my life...not.
