Brenda and I went to see the Canadian film "Passchendaele" yesterday. We have known for a long time we would be seeing this film, as Brenda's nephew plays the part of a Lewis Gunner in the movie.

What could be a more fitting time to view this movie than Novmber 11th, Memorial Day? Truly a day to reflect on the sacrifices and hardships the men and women of miltaries the world over have had to endure. Passchendaele gives us a glimpse into a fraction of that suffering, and the hope that some humanity can remain within it all.

I highly reccomend anyone who has the opportunity to see this film to do so.

"We must work to keep our veterans' sacrifices in the forefront of our minds. The story of Passchendaele pays tribute to a key event in our country's history, and will educate Albertans and all Canadians for years to come." - Alberta Premier Ralph Klein

Wow, that's awesome. I'm going to have to go see it soon.

My wife told me a couple of months ago that it would be coming sometime this year.

She found out about it because I had been listening to one of my favorite Iron Maiden songs, titled (of course) Paschendale. For those who love true metal, this is a triumphant, gut-wrenching song. Awesome lyrics and phenomenal music. The song tells the story of the battle at Paschendale in WW 1. Just an unbelievable song...need I say more.

Even if you're not into Iron Maiden or the genre at all...you must 1) download the lyrics, and 2) download the song (purchase of course), and give it a listen while reading the lyrics.

Can't wait to see the movie!

Thanks!

Best Regards,

domls

Every Canadian and in fact anyone who wants to know what it was really like in the trenches should watch it. It's battle scenes are far superior and realistic than "Saving Private Ryan". They managed to speak to many of the issues of the time, from shellshock, the draft, and enemy residents. There was only one scene where Director/Actor Paul Gross took some artistic licence. The only thing that film unfortunately cannot replicate is smell. And the kids of those days were as horny or hornier than the kids of today.LOL
