Not just because I'm selling some, but I'm really curious how many here use discs in the VCD format?
Over the years I've bought some of the U-Best VCDs and found that some of the titles are hard to find by any other US company. I wonder if this is because these discs are licensed mainly for overseas use.
Since I use one of those JVC triple-drawer players, it's easy for me to use the VCD setting which puts the left channel without the singer in mono on both channels. The music videos are kinda goofy too...usually just pretty girls in bikinis on the beach or some landscapes and city scenes of an indeterminable country.
I also know we have plenty of foreign members and the VCD format is more accepted abroad.
How about it...do YOU use VCDs?

No. And more than that, I have visited 180+ karaoke shows in 22 states and provinces, and I have seen videos about twice at a karaoke show. I can't say how they were put up, but I suspect DVD.
Now I will tell you that I don't typically go to big "show bars" or high-end DJ shows. Those sort of leave me cold in the first place, and second I haven't run across many karaoke shows at those places at the times I am going.

The ones at mine were off the lasers - remember the one that made you laugh!!!! I don't use dvd or vcd, only had 1 person ever bring in a vcd that played on my Pioneer player.

If you count the Pioneer lasers, I have seen those maybe 15 times counting yours. I was thinking video DJ music or something -- I wasn't even aware that VCDs had karaoke titles on them.
Heck, I didn't even know what they were until I looked them up just now. According to Wikipedia VCDs never gained a foothold in the US, but can be readily found in Europe and Asia.

Out of about 750 CDGs, I have 3 VCDs in my Library... 2 ABBA discs and one disc that had a mix of different artists. Other than that, I haven't had a desire to get more, because I already have most of the songs that would be of interest to me on other CDGs. Plus, I also use the JVC 3-tray player, and even with hitting the MPX button once (to filter out the main vocal, it still can be heard (barely).

We get them every once in a while when some of our Filipino or other Far Eastern singers come in. We have a multi format Electrohome player for such occasions.

I've seen it done in one small venue, and people seemed to like the video ( who knew?)
Your U-Best brand became Ovation, which became Backstage, who no longer put them out, as far as I know.
I don't know if there are enough titles, especially new ones, to make a good sized collection, and my personal choice would be for a different manufacturer.
All that being said, I always liked the idea. It gives non-singers something else to look at and enjoy at a show...

Yes, all my discs are vcd. I am now starting to get dvd discs (10 discs so far), but they are slow to load and i have some difficulty in getting to the correct track with those remote.
CDG disc does not exit here.

Looks like the manufacturer makes 80 discs in one series and 44 discs in another. So it might not be a bad foundation library.
I think the videos are so ridiculously cheesy too! And the instrumentation is about as good as most any non-Sound Choice company.

I use some VCD's, I searched the internet high and low for them, to try and spice the show up. The sunfly ones, are cheesy and more often than not I try and use a different version, however I have 10 original footage discs, which are brilliant, I have to advise customers that the lyrics are sometimes wrong but if you know the song you're singing you'd be fine.

I have a set of Original Footage VCD's. It has alot of older stuff. It is the original music, with a real video of the performers. They are multiplex, so take the vocals out as you choose. It's only 12 disc of 10 songs, but people love them. The "These Boots Were Made for Walking" one is funny as hell.
These are a big hit at private parties I do, that are not necessarily 100% Karaoke.

I have this set! I use this Original Footage version of "These Boots" instead of the DK version I have. The crowd LOVES it. Most of the other songs in the set I've never even heard of. If I remember correctly, there's Killing Me Softly and a couple of other songs that people sing once in a while, but I keep forgetting to play the VCD version because there arent too many that I would use. It really does change things up a bit. I just need to remember to switch the vocal channel so they aren't singing over the original!

Aha! So I think I have seen VCD! Does it feature Nancy Sinatra herself dancing in white gogo boots? If it does, that was the first karaoke song I ever sang. (With my wife -- we never did it again but we still compete to see who can get the Ha! in first when someone else sings it.) Can you buy that one? I want it, as a Christmas present for Jeannie.

I have about 20 VCD's. I forgot all about them until this post. They don't play in my computer, or in my original karaoke machine. They do, however, play in my RSQ deck!
I found them to be very well received during sing alongs and I liked to use them when I had to sing.
As I am now putting things together for my re-entry into KJing after being on a hiatus most of the year, I no longer want to carry my discs and the RSQ player. So, I now wonder, is their anyway to get the VCD's playing on a computer?
