I WAS WONDERING, WHEN YOU START A GIG AT A NEW VENUE, DO YOU ASK THEM FOR PROOF THAT THEY HAVE PAID THE ASCAP/BMI FEES FOR THAT YEAR? I MEAN HOW DO WE KNOW THEY HAVE PAID THEM? DO THEY GET A LICENSE FROM ASCAP? & IF THEY DID NOT PAY & WE DID NOT KNOW THAT COULD A DJ'S EQUIPMENT BE TAKEN IF THEY GOT INSPECTED BY ASCAP/BMI?

You wouldn't get in trouble, the club would. It's happened to me before. They either shut the show down, or they get the proper licenesing & continue!

The venue would get fined and a music suspension. If they are "caught" That means no music, radio or otherwise (I think it was) from 1 to 6 months.
Usually if they have a jukebox, it "should" have a licensing sticker on it.
They won't take your equipment but they'll put you out of work at that venue for the duration of the suspension.
If the person you're talking to is unsure, talk to the owner - If the owner's unsure that's scary

BMI & ASCAP have numbers operators can call on thier website. and some answers can be found on thier websites..
I haven't been there to that section lately. but i know the phone numbers are there.
