Ok guys, so if I go this way, is the yamaha strictly an amp or mixer/amp?

That particular amp (P5000S) is just an amp.

Yamaha does make a darned fine powered mixer, the EMX5014C. It along with the S115V would make a fine system. Just add mics, cables, and various stands. Even includes compression.

zZounds even sells a combo for less than $1400:

Rock the house---the ripman's definition. Good sounding music at a fairly high level, don't have to stick your lips in someone's ear for them to hear you but loud enough that people

Small bar, don't know the square footage but maybe 50 people could fit. The bar actually has 3 rooms, plus an outside beer garden on the Mississippi river.

Well then the B212 should be ok for that as long as you aren't trying to push it so all 3 rooms are going to hear it.

Thanks. Actually the outfit there now, you can't hear if you go in the third room. I don't know what he has for outfit as I am just learning about all the different equipment but I know he said he has about $20,000 wrapped up in it. So the loudspeakers in the 212a package could be used down the road for (yes nowi know what this means) stage monitors?

Yes, they could, though they aren't ideal for this because of their physical design. (I own a pair and have used them for monitors.)

Ok guys, I've learned some good stuff, I'm still open for a system. I gave my description of what I want my system to be able to do. I'm looking to spend $1000 or less. I don't need any mics, I already have music to start, a hosting program with a laptop. Lay me out a $1000 system that will do what I described and will make me smile and say "that's mine!"

Mixer - Yamaha MG124CX - $270
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... B&ZYXSEM=0

Speakers - Behringer B215A - $560 pair
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=600484

It's about the best you are going to find for that budget. The speakers are a little bigger so can produce a little more bass, however they have the same amps as the the B212 - so they still may not 'rock the house' at higher volumes. Lower powered amps tend to get very ear fatiguing at higher volumes. But like stated, these could be used in the future for other apps such as stage monitors or maybe even fill for other rooms.

They hurt/ring after a while of higher volume as lower power amps can only push clean power to a certain point, then once you push past that point of clean, the distortion comes into play, and the speakers will actually sound louder in the high frequency & lose a little low end.
But again, being the room is pretty small, they may work out fine.

Ok, you're selling me on this system. What do you think about saving $30 and getting a c item? (mixer)

I think if you want better sounding vocals, then you don't want to do that as the CX has vocal effects - very much needed for karaoke. The C does not have any effects.

C stock item as in C Stock” indicates a Yamaha Product that has been re-boxed by Yamaha and which may have cosmetic flaws that do not affect the performance of the Product. In most cases, they look just like new.

Sorry, I should have clarified that. Free shipping as well

Yep, full warranty and I went for it. $784 for the mixer and the speakers combined including shipping. THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Ok, so now I have this for my starter set up

Yamaha MG124CX 12-Channel Mixer

BEHRINGER B215A 900w ACTIVE PA SPEAKERS/MONITORS

Shure Wireless Microphone System L4 Beta 58 Microphone

Shure SM58 Wireless Microphone

Radio Shack 33-128 unidirectional wired mic with 30 foot cable

Compuhost

Toshiba Laptop Notebook Intel Celeron M 1.46ghz 2GB RAM

Sony Vio 17" flat panel monitor

Nearly 2000 songs

Ok, at some point I want speaker stands, some type of rack and I for sure need to get a couple monitor speakers.

What will I need to hook all these up for wires?

Well you could still get speaker stands, a pair is like under $100. Unless you get them mounted in the bar. You don't really want them lower than about 6', you want them over the corwd.
Hooking it up, standard mic cord between the mixer & speakers.
The rest you probably already have. Computer output to the mixer. S-Video out to the tv (provided your laptop has that).

If you have the money get monster cables if they are made in mike cords. Guarreteed for life. Made the mistake of converting a cable to match the inputs and had isssues after eight or nine years with having to restrip the connection to the banana couples that I was hooking into the amp. Finally invested in some monster cables that work good.

Hey Lon, any speaker stands do? I don't have a gig lined up yet. Two of my mics are wireless and I have two transmitters for them. The wired Radio Shack has a xlr female connector for the mic end and then I'm not sure what the other end is called, but I know if plugged right into my cheap all in one Emerson karaoke player.

Clarification, the mic cord has the xlr connection. So the corded mic is all I would need the monster cables for?

I'm not familiar with connectors but my monitor was able to plug right into my lap top. It has the small connector that still has to be screwed in on the outside on each end. I would definitely need some type of adapter as I can currently only get the monitor about 2.5 feet from my laptop. What kind of connector is this called? Then I assume my transmitters for the wireless mics would just plug into the mixer? And the speakers into the mixer? Do speakers still use the old type of speaker wires or do they plug in now?

Ok, I now know the connector coming out of the computer monitor is a vga. Do they make adapters for these?
