Well...I survived.
It went well despite a bit of a disappointing crowd. I thought I would get a lot more people, but there were only a couple of "karaoke singers," the rest were friends and relatives of mine and some drop ins.
A bit discouraging, but I know that I have to build this thing. It is not going to happen overnight.
One positive:
The system sounded GREAT! Literally the best karaoke system I have ever sang on.
One BIG faux pas: The song slips that I made up DID NOT have a place for 'song number'!!!!!
That's the first thing on the list of things to do this week!!

check out my song slip and song page (printable) on my website... see if that gives you an idea.
Likewise, lonman at lonman productions has a terrific song slip and song page (printable)... it's his example I followed.

Another thing you might want to do about slips is to get a business to pay for them. We have a local video store that rents karaoke systems and discs and they pay for our slips. Our information is at the top, theirs at the bottom with Name, Song Title, and Song number in the middle. They are printed by a professional printer. You can see a copy at http://www.pbase.com/cdgman The picture of the BOOK case. It's not too clear (a little fuzzy) but you will get the idea

Hey Ice,
Congratulations and welcome to the brotherhood. I am especially glad to hear that you are pleased with your sound. The word will get out and the singers will come in.

ICE
Glad to hear it went well. Building a crowd takes awhile, but if you stay the course and continue to run a great show you will be suprised how the Karaoke Crowd will find YOU . All it takes is one group to stop in and they tell their friends and so on and so on .....
Congrats

You can breathe now!
It always takes a couple shows to get all the kinks out, but it certainly sounds like they were minor for a first night!
You may want to do a google search and see if there are any sites that list local karaoke nights. I have found that here in FL, there is one that alot of singers check frequently, and is free to put your listing on. Sometimes that helps to boost a new show.
Keep us posted.

Ice,
One word of encouragement...
before ya play that first song or introduce that first singer...
look at your system.. grasp the rack with both hands.. and breathe deaply and hold it for a count of 6 and breathe out slowly....
and.....
JUST DO IT!!!

I feel 100% more at ease, even though I didn't get a huge crowd. I have that all important first one under my belt!!

Believe me, you'd rather have a smaller crowd the 1st time than a larger one.
Just think what you woould have felt like with 50 people pointing out the song # error..............

That's true!
That was a bonehead move!!!
It's all corrected now, though, and only a handful of people saw it!

Glad it went well for you!
I always say that I never sound as good singing karaoke as I do when I'm standing behind my own rig!
