There's nothing wrong with believing in products for good reasons and not believing in a lot of the products mentioned here for good reasons also. I see it as all about solutions and avoiding problems. You my friend on the other hand, may have a problem. I will not bash since I'll leave it up to the manufacturers. If you care to, see what is happening and will happen in the audio industry.

No there isn't but it isn't the only alternative either.

I have a behringer mixer that has xlr outs and have the choice of xlr to 1/4 or xlr to xlr. Right now I am going xlr to 1/4 because that was the cable I already had, had to buy another pari of xlr to xlr's for my wireless Mike sysyetms but that is all I had in the budget for it. Mixer to amp, would I have liked to go xlr to xlr? Undoubtably yes, but again that's all I had in my budget to pay for is one set of xlr to xlr's. Might in the future change out the cables between the mixer to xlr to xlr but at this time the cables I am using will do.

The QSR 122's would be over $1800 for a pair of 2-way speakers. My hopes are that there are speakers that exist somewhere between QSR pricing and the cheap Kustom, pyle type speaker cabs which I agree aren't a great investment for most (yet still, some like them).. To go to a QSR site is fine, but todays economy just isn't conducive to all of us being able to go out and even afford Mackie (which is very good)..Some need to settle for something a bit beneath expensive. Some are in debt and wish to still work with what they have, can afford, and make that sound as good as possible (and depending on what "that" combo is, it might not be half bad if the technician knows how to use the tools).

If I had the type of money *and I put GOOD money into all aspects of music which is a very important area for me* to run out a grab QSC (without considering less costly options) given todays economy and other real expense I have to try to meet, unless EVERYTHING I have is high end (which means I've poured LOADS of money into this) I would rather settle for affordable options. Let's be realistic, we ALL want good sound, but look at the economy, and consider expenses in the real world for we average joe folk today... QSC for many is a pipe-dream.

Personally, I think it'd be great if all went out and invested in costly older McIntosh, and Marantz tube systems and nothing solid state regarding home audio gear, or for commercical find Altec VOTT bin cabs, and nice tube amps and preamps for really warm sound, but lets be realistic, vans to transport it, broken backs, and although sound would be gorgeous, the best is not always practical and possible for many.. so for me to imply my aesthetic tastes as an across the board option would be ridiculous... Some things are just impractical and don't take into consideration others pocketbook, and the times.. Paying huge bucks folks just don't have is not an option for most.. Nobody WANTS to settle for less, sometimes we have to ! No need for folks to have to feel bad about needing to settle for less costly options at certain times of life either ! Few want to admit they can't afford dental, and medical expenses today... QSC just isn't an option when people also have kids they wish to put thru school during a suffering economy. Performers seldom make over 6 digit incomes annually.

The problem JD is that in virtually every post you mention QSC in one form or another and to most of us it looks like spam.

Kinda reminds me when I use to push RoxBox. I have stopped pushing just one program but now suggest several others with noting which one meets my needs without saying that it will meet everyone's needs because everyone is difeerent.
What works for one person might not work for the next. That has to be taken into consideration as well as budget.

Well, when somebody starts a thread entitled "Inexpensive powered speakers please", to say "I would invest in the QSC 122" as a response just doesn't help the person posting the thread. The person has clearly expressed their needs and that is affordability that is 'decent' quality, they have tacitly made it very clear they can't afford QSC by stating "Inexpensive".. If somebody states, "My new wife and I would like a home and an area to live in the United States that isn't costly" because money is an issue presently, is it right for me to say "Move to Fairfield County in CT" ? It just doesn't belong contextually.. It comes across as pretentious. Sure QSC is good, but if I can't afford that currently for whatever reason, and have implied such, why rub my nose in it ?

There are those that would recommend caddies for taxis. In the real world a business lives within it's means ans expands when necessary.

This forum is lacking in the respect that each software can not be presented without bias and all of it's features explained wi9thout bashing and arguing. Compuhost would be my second choice and I have come close to buying it but RoxBox has many features that Compuhost doesnt which I wont do without. But nobody here knows those features because they never took the time to learn a more techie type software. Rox has the bells and whistles too but each are tailorable according to taste.

It uses real windows The panes can be sized according to taste. The columns can be sized or changed in order. The overall is subject to windows themes and the background colors or any font can be changed or sized.

This is not a promotion for Rox only a response to all here that bash it because they dont understand it. Click on the player 2 tab..

It is when the alternatives suggested here are inferior products and I have experienced issues with them that I'd might as well burn my money. In that case I wholly disagree with what you say. Okay, I only "virtually" disagree with what you say.
It reminds me of when I decided that I could sell anyone anything. I took a hiatus from my tekky work and got my pick of location of one the oldest and largest electronics retailers. After a few months a guy came in and said he wanted to do this and that with karaoke. I was happy to tears and selected what he needed to do just that. Within a week a coworker told me that someone returned several hundred dollars worth of karaoke gear. That burst my bubble. I didn't "qualify" that individual. I still didn't know what that meant. After all these years in thinking, oh, he wasn't "serious" about it. But "serious" here can mean a number of things.

However, my point is that with principles in mind you can posses the tools to accomplish more than someone with all the tools and no principles. I know people who have toured with major acts and can tweak just about any sound to a level of decency. Eric Clapton can take any amp and sound like, well, Eric Clapton. If you're that passionate about sound then take from those who listen to the voice of the customer and don't Just-Be-Loud. Don't be afraid to see what the pros use and why they use it. Learn something because technology moves so quickly and somebody always has one better. A beginner should determine their requirements, features they want, the performance specs and do some homework. Spell it out.

You aren't gonna tweak that cheapo system without the knowledge.
You can give a man fish but it is nobler to teach him how.
Some major companies care about your knowledge and others you can't get things serviced from. It's your choice.

Yeah, Yeah, everyone has a story. I won't bother you with mine but there are "cheap" items that are made by these so-called "expensive" manufacturers. I know of a couple of KJs who started all over from scratch and invested in some "expensive" gear and one took a Karaoke Scene title and the other is doing well in a sparsely populated region. Both bacame affiliated with tv shows, in which one starred. Because of "expensive" gear? Not entirely so. One started with the budget item and the other with the more expensive item. It sure helped. But I do see a lot of KJs not making good choices in their gear or don't care to get that good sound. I'd rather go with a company that wants me to know and have a positive relationship and grow with. Even if it means buying their cheapy item. Listen with your ears not your eyes. Decide with your mind.

Ok, I normally ignore such comments, however this one can't be avoided without clarification. What features are you talking about?

Karyoker confuses me as well. Oh yeah it's one of the better frontends to Winamp but AutoKDJ has more features than RoxBox. the only thing AutoKDJ has over Compuhost is a kiosk that enters the songs into the que all by itself. Wait a minute, seems that is a feature missing from RoxBox as well.

Well I personally know of several KJ's that have switched from Roxbox to Compuhost, two from watching it run at my show! I do NOT know of a single one that switched away from Compuhost to Roxbox however!

Giving it a chance however, I just downloaded the demo of Roxbox and gave it a try, expecting to find at least "most" of the features I'm used to with CompuHost as Karyoker promises. Only I found a VERY amateurish looking interface and VERY few features. Karyoker, maybe I'm missing something, where is the...

1. Ability to add more than ONE song to a performer without occupying another space in the rotation?
2. I use the Slide Show feature of Compuhost all the time, I'm having trouble finding it in Roxbox?
3. Is the simple "second winamp" all Roxbox has for Filler? I guess I'm use to a more advanced "dual deck filler player", meaning virtually NO dead air, even between filler songs.
4. I'm also used to the Autoplay feature of Comphost, couldn't find it in Roxbox?
5. And please don't tell me that amateurish onscreen grid of upcoming singers is supposed to be better than the professional scroller in Compuhost?
6. Also, where is the Promo-Trailer that CompuHost offers, I know my venues love it, but I don't seem to see it in Roxbox?

There's alot more that Compuhost offers that I don't seem to find in Roxbox, I must be missing something, please help?

I can see your point to some extent. Let's put it where it's at. Yes, there are some audio manufacturer people who can care less about whether you have a family to support and possibly some who do. But the the heart and soul of this industry comes down to the singer. In these bleak times audio manufacturers will come and go but the legendary kj will live on. Some of us do have to support a future commodity, our children while some egocentric individuals basically have sold their souls. We see it in our economic scenario. It is the paring of American capitalism. If you are phenomenally talented a record label will judge whether you deserve to be the chosen one to reap the bounty of billboard sales. You as a consumer can judge who you buy from. Try to see who is actually putting people on the street and judge for yourself.

Hey JD, Can you hook me up with whomever it is that is supplying you with whatever it is that you are on? Please....... My life has been kind of stressed lately and a trip to another universe for a while would do me good. :drinklaugh:

I think Steve's point is a VERY valid one.

It's one thing to talk about the high quality of whatever you love.

It's another thing to totally lose sight of what's being asked in the Original Post for INEXPENSIVE things... not harping on the quality of what they would end up getting, so never mind that, get the good expensive stuff anyway.

Part of being ON an advisory board is knowing when to pull back your own personal agenda and try to help those that are asking for it.

TBreen,
Speaking as a former RoxBox user,
RoxBox does have an autoplay feature. Up above the que are three click on buttons, the first being AP for Auto Play.
That said it was the added features plus problems between winamp and Vista that made me choose to switch to Compuhost.
