First off I am not a newbie to digital karaoke I have been running it for over 8 years. Cavs, Winamp, Sax-n-Dotty and Rox for 3 years.
I will not give a critique at this time of the week but will some general comments.
I havnt tried Comouhost for a couple of years Last night I downloaded and installed. I run a wide screen laptop and first prob I encountered was this.
pic
Can I lock on lower right corner and make full screen? No. Why is there 2 separate postage size panes for singer and song? How can I change the size of the panes. background color, font type, or font size? I wear bifocals and squint to read the singer aqnd song. Whats with all the crap at the bottom?
Eq as big as the singer pane? I dont need EQ just a linear DAC conversion.
I imported a playlist. Can I export into a dlimiter .txt or HTML? Do I have a database karaoke , DJ, singer history, or singer list I can use with Access?
I qued a singer with no song then tried to que a song I ran into a window that required a song Id Cant type in the title need the id. Click on playlist Then Choose between artist or title Search Hank Williams Highlight the song I want and click add. A edit box pops up. Go back to the first box and insert id number then retrieve Aha !! It found my song. Click add. By this time my singer would in the chorus.
Click on the fil tab. I did not take an extra hour to figure out how to import 1 song let alone playlist(s).
This software would slow our pace down considerably and doesnt come anywhere close being adaptable to our many and varied formats.
This is not a bash but you asked for reasons which I just tried to enumerate.

... QSC just isn't an option when people also have kids they wish to put thru school during a suffering economy. Performers seldom make over 6 digit incomes annually.
I'll I hear is everybody's plight about their economic situation. But yet you want to support audio manufacturers who cut their own peoples' jobs when they don't have to. Some audio manufacturers will not do that like some of these other kneejerks. Seems like a lot of people are on the streets for this very reason in various sectors of business. But again maybe you're out for your self just like any of these kneejerk audio bigwigs. It begins to sound like a skipping violin recording. And somebody is paying to make them.

Hey JD, Can you hook me up with whomever it is that is supplying you with whatever it is that you are on? Please....... My life has been kind of stressed lately and a trip to another universe for a while would do me good.
Yeah leave the Twin Cities area and goto Karaoke Land! It's funny you metion that. Way back a few years I met a guy who grew up in Hollywood and returned to your town where he was from because things got bad. I asked him why he returned back to the west coast. He told me he was investigating karaoke for his gig. I said, "the what?" and never thought it would amount to anything. Well, now I do karaoke and the last I checked on Youtube he was in a Seattle coffee shop singing with a guitar. I don't think it's funny. Yeah look up Tim Garon on Youtube.

You can expand the window to full screen, as with any other software on windows. Will it change the look of the Control Panel? No, but you will have it fill the whole screen. As a matter of fact, I like to have that little extra space on the right, since I have a text file open, where I write down anything I notice during the shows with the songs. For instance a song is named wrong, etc etc... I have to admit, this became kind of obsolete, since you can now mark songs in Compuhost, while they are playing with different options and notes. I still like to have my separate little text file though.
You can't change the font color, size, type within the Control Panel. I give you that. But a lot of users are requesting changeable skins for a while now. And the makers of CompuHost really pay attention to their user suggestions. So I dare to say, this is a matter of time until it will be available.
The EQ can come in handy as I recently found out, when you run let's say a Mackie Mono Powered Mixer (My old backup equipment I'm using right now, until I will have my new equipment together on Tuesday) and on top those Mixers are very bass heavy. Since they route everything into the main, EQ adjusting on the mixer also effects the vocal channels. In this case it really came in handy to be able to adjust the song itself within Compuhost.
Yes, you absolutely can export the song database, singers and singer's history into CSV, etc. That being said, you have all the possibilities in the world to do whatever you want with it. Excel, Access, MySQL, etc.
With the song search, you don't necessary have to select if you want to search by Artist only, or any other option. Just type in, what you want and it will find the song. Even though the search by Artist only comes in handy in some cases. Also, you have the possibility to sort the song results by Artist, Title or Disc ID. Another really handy feature. That being said, you really get used to this search in a very short amount of time and it doesn't take me any longer than 3 seconds from the time, a singer tells me, which song he wants to sing until it comes up on the singer's screen. You're welcome to come out to any of my shows and time me.
The filler tunes section is actually pretty self explaining. You can either add single/several songs directly or open up a playlist you created and saved earlier. Plus Compuhost gives you 2 deck player build in. Means, it automatically fades into the next song with different options, how fast and smooth the fading is. Again, to me a very handy tool for my shows. With the new Rapid Search adding a song to the playlist became a breeze now, too. This too takes no longer than 3 seconds to add a song, no matter where the song is located on your hard drive(s).
Formats: On the contrary! CompuHost is one of the few programs, that pretty much supports ANY song format, naming convention, etc.
If you actually have a real interest in CompuHost and its functions/features, you definitely WOULD notice a huge advantage compared to RoxBox. Not saying, RoxBox is a bad program and on top it's really reasonable for the price. But don't compare apples with pears...

To each his own. I have sat 10 year olds down and had them running shows in 5 minutes. Karaoke part easy then calling up different playlists, making them and saving.
Some of my bop playlists were generated by teens actually hosting with my system. Comuhost will not support our dynamic and constantly changing formats
Each have their advantages Rox is more suitable to my needs. It does what I want and with recording into wav files on the fly my mainframe is running at 1-3% cpu usage. Can you record whole shows without glitches?
Use your product and I will use my "inferior" one and run circles around any format you have.. I have to go to a gig tonight might eve have a few!! Have a good one sevarin Come to Greeley and we will we party... Ollie

It will even automatically name the file for me with Singer's Name, Artist and Title.
I doubt your last statement and dare to take a bet on that...
If I ever make it, I will stop by Ollie. You're a great guy and I give you your opinion. I just wanted to point out your uneducated opinion on one of the best programs on the market right now.

One of the features that I have been begging Frank for is multiple songs per singer. I have talked to Frank several times on the phone and I was a betatester for the first version and went thru all the bugs. I know all the ins and outs and shortcuts and have even converted to Linux. Thats where my fidelity comes from.
To give you an example of Rox Frank was out of town for awhile and a newebie on the forum was desperate about her first gig this weekend. I offered to give her phone advice if Frank didnt make it back. We are sort of tight knit and helpful. Start at the bottom and go up...

I don't get your point.
CompuHost does offer that, too.

Note to self: "Kappy, do not get sucked into rhetoric, sometimes the best thing is to let something go and not respond"

For the rest of the weekend I am not (NOT) a tech, host, have any knowledge on the subject whatsoever. I am now at the point where i have a competent host, can get drunk at my own gig collect $100 and try to find a ride home. I did lose my stay out of jail card. In other words party time!!!!! What software? Drink a six pack of Bud and a six pack of Bud Liite and call me in the morning... After noon......

It's another thing to totally lose sight of what's being asked in the Original Post for INEXPENSIVE things... not harping on the quality of what they would end up getting, so never mind that, get the good expensive stuff anyway.
Part of being ON an advisory board is knowing when to pull back your own personal agenda and try to help those that are asking for it.
So two powered speakers are too much. Buy one used and you still get a six year or so owner warranty transfer. If you need another just buy it later. One of my favorite KJs uses one 15 Just-Be-Loud powered and doesn't push it. It has some punch for rock. Many years ago I sat in on an Audio Engineering Society meeting at Renkus-Heinz and was astonished to find out that a separate amplifier did not come up in the vocabulary. Efficiency and reactive loading effects came up but were a thing of the past to them. A separate amp and speaker definitely were. In a bind I would use my cheap mixer made by a German company in China and one used powered speaker. Sorry if I got the value of a used one or two wrong. At least I didn't recommend one of those fancy new linear array Bose ones with a sub. That would've really got MY goat.
