That is a definite advantage !
I do think sometimes guys think they can push me around because I'm a girl. The bar is dark and I am perceived younger than I am a lot. Experience has helped me quite a bit in knowing how to handle certain situations. But I truly believe if I was a 6' tall man I'd get a lot less guys treating me like they were in a strip club.

I agree, I'm 6' 3" with 255 pounds. I hardly ever have to deal with idiots. And if, they usually listen to what I tell them...

Yes and they are very comfy on my feet.

It's unfortunate how many karaoke versions are screwed up. If someone sings regularly, is not drunk, and tells you the version is screwed up ... it probably is.

I did have one person who sang regularly, was drunk, was about 25 years of age and wanted to argue with me that the "Last Dance" by Donna Summers isn't suppose to start off slow!

The one that gets me is when someone is drunk and sings the same song they always have and complains that the song is faster or slower than usual.

They don't get that it's THEM that's faster or slower than "usual"

I have one that used to sing in a band and now she thinks she's THE singing "expert".
When she's drunk, she's EXACTLY like that. All the songs are wrong.
Heck, she didn't even sing that long with the band.
They fell apart after a year or so.
I find it extremely irritating and it just kills me, especially since she's a very good friend of mine.
I just generally keep my mouth shut around her since she's always right when it comes to that, especially after she's been drinking. It's a shame, because she's very nice if she's sober, but alcohol does not mix well with her.

Oh well, just goes to show that even your friends can be a pain in the you-know-what sometimes.

well if anyone has sang with a variety of cover bands you find like i have that they dont always do it right either. so you adapt to the tempo sometimes whether its fast or slow its just how it goes sometimes. had one band play me and bobby mcgee so fast i stopped them said hey its not a 78 record then they went at it like it was 33rpm so i said heck if u cant do the middle ground just do the 78 version so we can get it over with .... it was a funny moment and day still laugh about that.

had a rough night last night

- The guy who yanked the mic from the stand and couldn't understand why it wasn't working. He left the cord behind. I've never had that happen before.

- The guy, who while I was busy (bumper music going), dragged a chair onto the stage and then turned the flat screen TV entirely around ripping my duct tape up halfway to the DJ booth

- The guy who is apparently walking off with one of my corded mics, and then tells me after I had chased him down that he had unplugged my mic and that the mic in his hand was his (and it was his)

- And the normal drunken As%%^% that wants to sing with everyone and tells me, "you need to chill!"

PS And this had me smiling, someone sang "Last Dance" last night for the first time since occasion I posted about when the drunk told me my version was wrong cause it started off slow!

I've had people disconnect the mic before. People get so nervous they squeeze the release on the mic really hard when they are holding the mic and the cable just drops off. Or the person before them squeezed it, so its lose. Then the next singer goes to pick it up out of the stand and it detaches. I've never had someone think it was cordless though. That's really funny !

One of the first things I did when I started hosting karaoke was replace all my worn XLR connectors with Neutrik NC3 Golds. The singers were mostly new to it back then. They would look over to me and say "I'm so nervous!" and I'd look at their grip and they would be white-knuckling the mic!

And of course it was always coming loose.

You can still pull a mic off a Neutrik Gold of course. But it's really tight fit and takes a pretty good tug. To keep them tight I seldom disconnect the mics from the cables. I roll them up as a unit. Learned the hard way.

My cables haven't been used enough yet, I don't think, for the connectors to be worn. But I'll surely keep what you recommended in mind for when they need replacing!

Babs, I do believe that your Karaoke show would make an excellent reality TV show... Kind of like the show airline that Southwes airlines does.. I think it would be a great hit!!!

Babs the other thing to be on the look for is that when people pull out the mic from the stand, the clip can run against the holder (instead of going through the gap) and undo itself.
