Hey Yall,

My name is Gaetano and I live in San Diego Ca. I've been singing Karaoke since 2001 and Ive been a KJ now for about a year. I'm a KJ at a little local spot one night a week. I put on a pretty good show however it is the houses equipment. Its old and out dated and its like pulling teeth to get them to upgrade. I'm ready to make the commitment myself. I'm seriously considering starting my own Dj/Kj company to book some bars but mostly private parties or weddings.

Karaoke is a passion of mine and I love performing. I am curious how much money can be made doing this. Currently I make $75 a gig from the local spot using there equipment. I hoping once I book my own gigs using my own equipment that I could charge more. What is the standard charge for bar gigs, private parties and weddings? I appreciate your feed back. As far as equipment goes, it seems that laptop is now the best way to go...?

Thanks for the feedback in advance. If you have any equipment ideas please share. Thanks

Hi Gaetano!

$75 with no investment, is not a bad deal.

Hi  and welcome aboard !

How much money you will make is hard to say. It depends on your area and what type of jobs you get. Just off the top of my head I'd say with your own equipment doing a bar job you are looking at $150 to $400 a night. You may want to post the question in the Discussion area to see what others are making in your area. Private gigs are usually more money.

Any equipment questions you should post in the tech forum. They will be more than happy to help. You may find the answers you're looking for are already there. Good luck !
