I recently uploaded 5 songs to youtube that I recorded (myself singing) last weekend. The songs are:
Heaven & Hell (by Black Sabbath) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmhDYBjcCZ4
Holy Diver (by Ronnie James Dio) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnfrjwXAE7I
The Zoo (by The Scorpions, or is it just Scorpions?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE0EiknnlBE
Limelight (by Rush) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9wgo8JrTgo
Spirit of Radio (by Rush) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhArpDsveHE

I'm really interested in putting together a Tribute band to do covers of Dio (including old Black Sabbath Dio tunes), Queensryche, Rush, and Iron Maiden.

Please let me know what you think, plus, be sure to PM if you know any musicians to get in contact with.

BTW, I had posted this within another thread in the Singer's forum, but I think I'd rather have it in it's own thread.

Thanks!

Dominic

OK, first it's really hard to judge with sound coming from my crappy PC speakers. I think the settings for your voice needs to be adjusted a bit. Just a tiny bit of the echo...not much. Holy Diver and The Zoo were very good and your voice really suits the Rush selections. Go for it. Have you sang with live backing ever?

Thanks!

For recording, I try to have as little of sound effects (i.e. echo, reverb) as possible, to get a 'clean' vocal reproduction.

Yes, I've had plenty of experience with live bands. I'm talking 6 months of twice a week rehearsals. Like I said, I'm looking for musicians who can cover the material (talent wise). Unfortunately, in the nearest 'big town' close to me, I've had a difficult time finding the right group of guys (or girls) to play the music. It seems to be a really dead scene around here!

Great heavy metal voice !

I was disappointed the music was so soft. The mix was off in my opinion. I could see you rockin the house with that voice though.

Did I miss it or did you tell us where you're located? this would be important to know if you're looking for like-minded musicians. My husband's band (Dog Leg Preacher) does a cover of Holy Diver that's great...great song.

Thanks!!! :D Very much appreciated!

Which song(s) had the "off" mix? That night I was mainly worried about just getting the songs recorded because after moving the LR furniture, setting up the PA, setting up the lighting and effects, getting the karaoke versions, prep'ing the DMX lighting program..., all of which I started late afternoon, it was probably about 9 or 10 pm before I got started recording!

Not to mention having to track down and move all 13 cats into another room so that my Peavey SP 4's didn't become giant scratching posts!

Then I found that my HD video camera had only about 5 minutes left (of it's 120GB hard drive)! So there I was deleting old vacation movies off of the hard drive.

So I guess that all in all, I thought they came out pretty decent. Next time, I'm thinking of having my friend who is a sound guy extraordinaire come down and do the mix for each song. Which is what I should have been doing--testing out each song first to get just the right mix etc, since for each song, the mix would be different (due to the individual song's recording level). But I was just hoping to get them recorded that night.

BTW, I'm also from the Chicago area (close suburbs) originally.

OK, I just updated my profile to show my location. I'm pretty remote, far away from most major cities, however, I'm willing to travel. Also, since I'm looking to do a 'tribute' band covering the aforementioned genre and artists, most 'rehearsing' could certainly be done at home.

From there, we're probably talking just a few get togethers b4 the first show.

What I want to do is a circuit of venues. Circuit would include cities like Denver, Salt Lake, Missoula, Casper, Cheyenne, Billings, Boise, Idaho Falls, etc. Basically a 90 minute 'show' as opposed to playing 5 sets at a bar. Shouldn't be a problem, since I know of a venue in Billings, MT that has national bands come in and play their 60-90 minute set, with supporting bands appearing b4 them to start out the night.

I only listened to the first 2 songs. I thought I got a good feel of your talent from those. The music level was low to me. At times your voice was all I heard. I think having someone else set your sound while you're singing is a good idea.
