Has anybody tried to play SC9018 & SC9019 in a CD-ROM?
They appear not to work in a computer. We tried them in 3 different computers & they will not take.
However, they do work in a cdg CAVS player as well as CDG/DVD player unlike
MediaCloq discs...
Has SC found a new way to keep from ripping these discs?
I have all of my 2000+ CDG's ripped to my comp for shows legally...
Looks like SC may lose some KJ customers...
What is totally cool is that Pop Hits Monthly/Stellar Records now sells their updates in mp3+g format - Sound Choice should do the same IMHO

I know someone who has those tracks on their computer and plays them through Sax n Dotty so there must be a way to rip them.

They can CHOKE on it for all I care!

Well I would like to know how to get those tracks onto my computer.
These 2 brand new releases, SC9018 & SC9019, will not read in the 2 Plextor Drives I have using MTU's Microstudio.
Hopefully there is someone out there who can tell me the trick to get these discs legally media-shifted to MP3+G.
As far as Pop Hits Monthly, they have seen the light. I just received the December updates directly from Stellar Records in MP3+G format. They have been doing this since June 2008. No ripping involved, just load!
Thank you all for your comments...

Is there anything indicating on the disc that they will not play in computers? Or any kind of new little logo on the sleeves or disc themselves that normally hasn't been there?
I got Mediacloq discs to import via Tricerasoft CDG Ripper, Plextor Premium drive & Windows 2000 Pro, WILL NOT work on Vista at all. It took almost 24 hours per disc, but they work fine.

Lonman,
No, they are not MediaCloq. I am familliar with that type of copy protection. A MediaCloq disc will not even play on a DVD/CDG Player - I have tested these discs on a DVD/CDG Player & they work fine on the player unlike a MediaCloq but not on the ROM...
I am using Plextor PlexWriter-ROM & MTU's Micro Studio which I've been using for years with no problems... I have a backlog of Sound Choice that I'm still ripping & the old discs work fine in the ROM so it's not my hardware...
These new SC discs are now made by Mediaplas in the UK & interesting enough, there is no copyright warning on the disc or jewel case cards whatsoever. SC9017 works fine & SC just finally released SC9002 & it too had no problems...
I am hoping to see if someone else is having the same problem with the exact disc #'s - There is an email addy on the SC Disc <fsc @ mediaplas.com> but if you go to www.mediaplas.com it gives a forbidden notice...
My assumption is that SC has gone offshore to avoid copyright probs. They now have the MCPS symbol without any warning on copying the content... I wonder what SC is up to???

Their discs are made in the UK now since 9000 series.
The MediaCloq discs will play in any strictly cdg player - at least the Pioneers & JVC players, they didn't play in several dvd hybrid players.

A KJ friend of mine has these same discs and we had a similar problem trying to rip them. His Plextor 716 burner would not read either of these discs, I don't understand why. However, I was able to use an HL DVD burner using CDG Ripper (a great program) to rip to BIN format. Then I used CAVS Encoder to rip the BIN files into MP3+MCG files for use in the JB-199. Perhaps you could try another burner supported by Microstudio.
I really don't think this is some copy-protection scheme.

Some players won't recognize certain forms of copy protection, nor certain kinds of cdrs...
If your 716 would recognize karaoke discs before, and now it doesn't these two, then it IS some form of copy protection! Or at the very least, a program code inserted that confuses the reader, like Mediacloq.

Sound Choice is always trying to stay one step ahead of the pirates but the pirates always figure out a way to beat them.

Try this: install your copy of Plextools or download the free version Plextools LE from the Plextor website. Set the option Enable Single Session. Then try to play or rip your disc. See if that works.

diamondd,
Well Plextools did not read the disc either with the settings you suggested...
My drive is the PX-W4824U that I have had for years. This is the first time a CDG disc other than a MediaCloq has not worked in it...
I hope I don't have to buy another drive like the HL DVD burner suggested above but may have to go that route... Any detailed steps on exactly how this was done would be appreciated...
There has to be a way to legally media-shift these discs...
As far as piracy, SC wouldn't have to go to such lengths if law inforcement did their job. I have a local competitor who is using multiple HD's with the same libraries on the same nights undercutting me... The local FBI office will not help me... I even hired a private investigation firm to compile evidence proving that the other KJ company is using pirated content & the FBI will still not help me...
SHRUG....

From what I'm reading I'm taking it that no one else has these discs?
May it's just the discs themselves!
Why not ask Sound Choice?

What about returning them and getting exact replacements?
If they don't work, they should understand that.
Sometimes it happens that discs are defective.

Well they work in a regular CDG/DVD Player...
Perhaps I will ask SC... The discs have no mention that you can not copy them

Insane, HOW are you trying to copy them?
I know that cdrwin won't work with multiple session discs (unless you know how to go into the options... something I've investigated but not had any success with)... and audiograbber USUALLY works for most discs like that.

knightshow,
I have been using my Plextor Plexwriter PX-W4824U with MTU's Microstudio for about 5 years ripping my entire CDG collection...
In the Microstudio, I just have it "Read" the tracks, type in the file name & import the .cdg file to harddrive - These 2 SC Discs just spin for about 30 seconds & will not "Read" when commanded in the program. Also the discs will not play in the Plextor using the play function in the Microstudio. I know it is not the hardware or the software because I just ripped SC9002 which is also a new realease as well as several backlogged SC discs I have.
The discs react like a MediaCloq in the ROM but they will play with no problem in my DVD karaoke player unlike a MediaCloq...

Has anybody at MTU addressed this? Maybe downloading the latest version??
As I don't have these discs, I haven't got the ability to try them at all. May end up geting the one with BuckCherry's "CrazyB****" just to have it and try it!

I have both those disks, and ripped them to bin files using Audiograbber and a relativity new Plextor DVD/R model. Had no problems whatsoever, that I recall.....
