I tried the Beta Chartbuster Custom CDG option on their site--was a pain in the butt and very laborious to use. You pick the songs from drop down menus, I kept getting kicked out of the window for some reason and you can only put 10 songs on a CDG. BUT I just received them in the mail in LESS THAN A WEEK which makes it well worth trying again. Was also a good price.

The thing is, I won't put a disc in my book until I have burned a backup. You will find that unless you can burn a copy track by track, you won't be able to make a back-up.

Charbuster, SC, and others all use Essential Karaoke copyguard system- an encoded track added to the disc. If you try a straight duplication, it won't work.

Keep in mind that it's perfectly legal to burn a backup disc- for vids, doftware, AND karaoke.

I've never had any problems burning SC (even MediaCloq) or CB discs, don't use Essential.

We haven't gotten to the burning back-up stage yet although I guess we should start planning that. We are off the grid so that will take a lot of generator time.

I should mention that one of the reasons I got my discs so quickly was that the CB site is set to default to Priority Shipping. I checked the lesser option, had to re-submit my name because it wouldn't accept a middle intitial and didn't notice the shipping had changed back. So beware of that. But even with the extra cost, it still amounted to $3/song and it was a nice surprise to be able to fulfill some customer requests for songs by the next week.

I am also a Sound Choice Club member and have always gotten excellent service but we just had trouble with not receiving a disc ordered back in October. I would consider it a fluke but the troubling thing is, we can't even get an email reply as to what is going on. We have called Georgia, emailed customer service and emailed Australia and only gotten one response which was "we will check into it," and that was a week ago. We were essentially told that WE would have to phone Australia which isn't in the budget at the moment. That isn't the Sound Choice service we are used to so it is a bit scarey.

I've ordered and received about 10 custom cdgs from the Soundchoice australia site and only once had a disc not arrive in at least 3 weeks, and when that did happen I called Soundchoice and spoke with a very nice lady named Martha with a very distinct southern accent and she overnited the disc in question form their location in the states. I've always had positive customer service from Soundchoice.

What software/hardware did you use to back up your media cloq discs? I never figured that one out. I had read that some people had success with using a marker on the outside edge of the discs but I just gave up on trying to back up those discs. I get the feeling that Joe Chartreuse has never even heard about audiograbber's ability to burn multi session discs and he's using an older a software(CDRWIN) that won't back-up these kinds of discs.

Good service from Sound Choice has always been my experience also--and I love the Martha lady. That is why I am a bit concerned that I haven't gotten any response or help from them after 2 weeks of trying both their phone and email customer service channels to find out what is going on. I am hoping it is just one of those domino effect screw up things and not an indication of things to come. I just ordered another Custom CDG from them today so we will see how that one goes.

I was using an older tower with Windows 2000 Pro, Plextor Premium CD burner & Tricerasoft CDG Ripper. It took about 24 hours PER disc (the ones with MediaCloq), but they play fine once in.
I tried using that same drive & software with Vista - absolutely not, going to try XP as well, but haven't had the need yet. But I still have my 2000 tower if I need to break it out of the spiderwebs.

I don't mean standard discs, Lon. I never had a problem either. I mean the custom track discs gotten on line. When I mention EK, I wasn't speaking of their music tracks, but their encoding system used on many of the "custom track" sites.

Again, I wasn't talking about regular discs, and MediaCloq is absolutely no problem for my Microboards QucDisc and it's firmware.

Many of the sites that allow you to make a custom disc with tracks of your selection use a system developed by EK that includes one encoded track.

If you have the ability ( good software or, in my case, a good stand alone burner), it is absolutely no problem. You just burn each track except the encoded one. The ONLY time there is a problem is if you are attempting a straight disc duplication, not track by track. Then you run into the blocking track ( usually a weird title nubered as the first track, or an non-numbered track).

THATS IT! No biggie, and easy to get around. Does that clarify things?
