Dumb I know but I dont know how to do it.
How do I connect a speakon out from my KAM amplifier
to the 4 pin speakon socket on my sb122.
I assume +1 signal & -1 earth.
Could be a dangerous assumption.
What are +2 & -2 pins for.
Will a standard speakon cable sort me out.
What is a standard speakon cable.
Is it as good as XLR that I know & am happy with.
Should I have stayed with Lego.
I so know you are going to say YES.

You are correct in assuming that +1 is positive and -1 is ground. In your situation you would not use the +2 and -2 side of your speakon. The NL4 can carry two seperate speaker signals but in your case it would only carry one. Most all newer pro gear that come with Neutrik Speakon connections utilize the NL4MP panel jack connectors these days even if they actually only use two of the four contacts. I think its just a cost thing to the manufacturers. There are NL2's NL4's and NL8's in various types. An NL2 can be used in an NL4MP panel jack and an NL2MP panel jack. The NL4 can NOT be used in the NL2MP panel jack.(it won't even fit) I know your EV uses NL4's but I'm not certain on your KAM Amplifier. One way to find out is see if it will go into it. (with the amp off of course). Neutrik Speakon connections are superior than quarter inch phone plug or the old XLR type speaker jacks. They have a much larger contact area and offer a more secure connection so they can carry more current. Hope that helps. If not here is a link that goes into more detail for you.

Yes that does help. Thankyou.
I have not got the amplifier yet. Slow ebayer.
I have just read that this amplifier when used in bridge mode
cant use it's 2 pole speakon connectors.
Binding posts have to be used.
I thought that the same signal would be at the stereo +1 contacts.

Are the sb122 8 ohms Can't seem to find the answer on their site

Thanks!
I have this question Lonman, if I use a pair of the ZX1 and a pair of the Sb122, will this amp be a good fit: (the W-2003)
http://simaudio.com/simaw2002-w2003.htm
This amp will be pushing 425w at 4 ohms, that should be perfect, right?

Actually no not at all. The amp pushes 225 watts per channel into 8 ohms. The subs "program" rating is 800 watts at 8 ohms. It would be GROSSLY underpowering those speakers. Even if you tied both speakers together to make them 4 ohms, the amp only pushes 425 watts into 4 ohms, but the speakers requirements also increase as well to needing 1600 watts at 4 ohms. The amp can be bridged to an 8 ohm load only so it would be good for 1 of the subs in bridge mode, but not both.

I have the Zx1/Sb122 combination and I like it a lot. I've had the Sb122s for a while and just got the Zx1s a few weeks ago.
I'm only pumping out 500wpc@4ohms and I think they can handle twice that, probably more. I don't have a crossover yet, but I'm sure you can get a bit better sound crossing over the subs at 125hz and using a low cut of 40-50hz. Of course you need to be careful and watch your meters if you're pumping a lot of juice through them like what I want to do eventually. You need to listen for any strange sounds coming out of the speakers, you don't want the voice coil scraping or over excursion of the woofers.
I constantly watch for clipping since I don't have a powerful amp. IMO 500wpc@4ohms is almost the bare minimum for this speaker/sub combination. It sounds fine and it gets pretty loud, but I want to go louder without any distortion or chance of clipping. If you get an amp with plenty of power, one thing you WON'T have to worry about is clipping.
The Sb122 can't compete with big heavy subs like the EV Eliminator for example, but for up to about 150 people, maybe a bit more, you can put out a nice, clear, rich sound. I just did a performance for around 100-125-150 people and my system sounded great! Plenty loud too. On "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" the bass was pumping baby! I put the subs right next to each other in front of the stage to increase the bass output.
The Sb122 is strictly for if size and weight is a concern like it is for me IMO. If you want massive pounding bass, get a sub or a pair of subs with an 18" woofer and a powerful amp. How you EQ and cross over can make a difference too. The Sb122 is strictly a mobile oriented product IMO. If you aren't moving around then you can find some real chest pounders that are big and heavy that will do a great job. Hope that helps.

Oops, I forgot about the speakers needing twice the power in 4 ohms! So I now understand why EV is recommending the CP2200 to match this combo This amp is rated 800w at 4 ohms!
Perhaps I could keep this Sima to drive the ZX1 through a crossover like the DBX 233XL and get another amp just for the subs? I know EV came out with an active sb122 which uses two 350w amps but not cheap at $1,000.00 each but the cost of a good amp is also $$$

Wow, you're saying 500w at 4 ohms and you're ok for 150 people? I should be fine in my baseman with that much power Lonman is right, I'll get the two sb122 but will keep my system for home and will get better amps when times come for a gig, it would be too risky for the speakers to push this amp

Weird why they would recommend that amp for their speaker. Even that amp doesn't push the 800 watts into 8 ohms which the speaker needs. However if you bridge this amp to both speakers, the 2200 watts that it pushes bridged at 4 ohms would be more than enough.
A closer match for a bridged setup for the subs would be the QSC RMX1850. This bridges to 4 ohms & pushes 1800 watts at 4 ohms.

How about the ZX1 which are rated at 200w cont., isn't that a lot of power? This is where I get all confused The fact that I'll be using a crossover, will that help them handle more power? And how do i really read the watts on paper, the continuas is the power it can't handle like a 200w rms amp in this case???

200 watts is the continuous rating, the "program" rating is 400 watts. The program rating is what you want your amp to push. It's not a matter of alot of power or not, it's a matter of not wanting to fry your speakers with an amp that can't push the proper wattage. But the on the upside, it won't necessarily make everything louder, but it will make everything cleaner & fuller sounding at regular listening levels. Plus less chance of blowing the speaker when/if you ever need to turn them up louder as they will be receiving a cleaner signal.
So in this case, the speakers power ratings are 200 continuous/400 Program/800 Peak at 8 ohms. The amp selected should push at least 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms.
A crossover won't help them handle anymore power, but will direct frequencies so that the ZL1 won't be trying to reproduce all the bass but becomes more of a midrange/high end speaker while sending all the bass to the subs.

I know where you can get a Samson PG3800 for a very good price. It puts out 900wpc@4ohms and costs hundreds less than a QSC RMX2450 which only puts out 700wpc@4ohms. The Samson even puts out more than a Behringer EP2500 which is the $350 knockoff of the RMX2450. The same place has the EV Sb122 for a ridiculous price for their black Friday sale. PM me if you're interested.

When you say "knockoff" are you implying unscrupulousness. I would questions a company's ability to operate and service their products when they start, as they say in the industry "trashing" their products. This usually happens when a company is starved for cash. They devalue the product and in the long run can no longer afford to produce and support it. The audio industry is in a lot of trouble and you can bet on seeing a lot of audio companies going out of business by next year. Many people are already getting laid off and some companies have a greater track record of doing so. Overseas manufacturing is in shambles. So buyer beware said the joker to the thief.

The 1st post asked what pins 2+ and 2- are used for.
Avanced speakers have computer chips in them the second set of wires is used for communication between the amplifer and speaker.
My Bose system uses 2 post speakon's and the Dynacord stuff I'm looking at uses it also.
