Hi, have used winamp on my standard pc for a long time now and just purchased 2 new mini pc units (ASUS P series computer) after setting up xp onto my pc i then as you do, loaded all the drivers on the master motherboard disc, all ok and plays my mp3 music fine, but after installing winamp when i click on the winamp icon in my desktop to open program i get that microsoft notice say that winamp has encountered a problem and i need to shut this down, so like a good lad, i send the report to microsoft and close the program.

I then removed my soundmax drivers as standard loaded for the audio drivers of the computer and even though i get no sound output (of course because i've removed the drivers) hay presto the winamp program opens and works fine ??

so re-loaded the soundmax standard audio drivers again, click on winamp logo and i have my "encountered a problem" notice again

can anyone help with any possible advice as its got to be something ever so slight in the soundmax driver setting that are clashing with the winamp.

To help eliminate any old version of winamp i have also tried to download the latest version, but still the same fault !!

look forward to any advice, cheers Ian

I remember having a simillar issue twice and believe it or not, a bios update fixed the problem! Obviously a driver conflict here but you'll need to make certain that you have the latest drivers on all of your hardware, make sure to uninstall and install like indicated...

Also, make sure to have done your Windows update, including ALL service packs

Let us know...

I was going to recommend going with a lower version, like 2.9... toally uninstall and then install the older one.

I HATE vista... is that your OS? You're not mentioning what OS you're using.

Using XP as the o/s like my previous older machine, so its got to be a conflict issue with the new computer drivers, i'm just going to look at downloading the latest bios from ASUS

cheers
