I'll be working 9pm - 3am. The owner is having me and a band.
I thought he learned his lesson last time. One or the other !
It's nice for me because the pay is the same and I get a break when the band is playing, but it kills the crowd. A lot of karaoke people won't come because of the band and a lot of the band crowd won't come because of the karaoke.
There is also the problem of having enough room. It has worked out in the past to have us both, but we are like sardines packed into a really small space. The problem is more on the bands end trying to fit around my equipment.

My home room is having a band. It's not one of my regular nights anyway.
So I'm at an Elks lodge. Yeah... the lodge that I was wondering if they would ever let me back in. But it's great... they're paying me time and a half, and get this: they are going to do a "New York" NYE with the celebration at 9 and I"m done at 12! I've never heard of such a thing.
Good luck with sharing the night with a band Babs. That doesn't sound like a fun thing to do.

I'm booked at my once a month venue. I was booked there last year and it went over really well.
I also have their staff party this Sunday, as I did last year.
They call in a caterer and the food is really awesome.
Last year they had the most awesome butter chicken. They also had the best baby veggies I have ever had!
I get my meal and drinks included for both gigs.
It's gonna be great!

Last week I spoke to the owner of my Saturday gig and asked him if he needed a KJ /DJ for New Years Eve. He mentioned he would probably go with the DJ they used last Year ( before I started workng ). BUT if I wanted out of loyalty since I am a current employee he would HIRE me If I wanted.
I thought that was classsy and respectively declined and will be staying home with the Wife and children ................For now anyways !!!

Stayin' home! that's amateur night. Too many people who don't drink all year and decide to drink enough to float a pirate ship. Yaaarrrggghh!

Working 8:00 to 2:00 the Venue decided to change from a band to Karaoke due to large turnouts at the karaoke nights the last couple of months. They also want me to throw in a few hip hop dance songs Cha Cha slide, Casper shuffle, Electric slide and Low by Flo-rida. This is much simpler for me rather than playing in the band that night.

For New Year's Eve, my regular venue is having a band. Which is fine with me because my rate for that night would be SIX times what I usually charge them. In years past I had no problem getting that rate and more for New Years events either for a private party or club/organization. However in the last few years I've found people aren't having as many big bashes, opting instead to go to a bar or casino or just have a small party at home with friends.
As I've had no inquiries for that date as yet, looks like my wife and I will head downtown to find a swanky place for dinner and drinks and then watch the Space Needle fireworks.

I actually planned on not working, but I got an offer, I really, really, REALLY couldn't refuse. Especially after the recent events that happened to me. It will cover more than half I spent on buying more equipment...

Hey BABS---Keep a CLOSE EYE on your gear----bands are notorius for walking off with mics and cables and so forth. Just keep an eye on it.

I had that happen to me before, too. They didn't do it on purpose and I got my stuff back, but it can happen.

Hey c'mon I still play in bands some and we're not so bad!
Seriously there are always bad eggs out there, but I've encountered way more sleazy DJs than musicians. But things can get accidentally mixed up whenever you are sharing a stage with someone. So it's a good idea to know how to contact each other
Sevarin if you've got a NYE gig that's going to pay for more than half your new rig I'm working too cheap. That's some serious scratch.

Definitely heed that advice, Babs - for some reason bands believe that "oh, it's just karaoke and we can borrow this." I've had it happen several times. Again, not usually on purpose that they forget to return it, but it can be aggravating nonetheless. I don't know what happened to the musician's code, "touch no one else's equipment without permission."

Don't get the wrong impression. I'm not saying, this is a regular pay for me on New Years' Eve. Usually I'm very, very happy with $500-600. That was just pure luck, that I consider a heaven sent after all that $hit, that happened to me.
