 Nice Mixer! Since i know that you used to use a Mackie -CFX and i purchased one on your recommendation, and am very happy with it, I wondered if your new Mackie -VLZ is really noticecibly better in its XDR pre-amps for its vocal channels as it is advertised to be? Also, Do you miss not being able to combine or layer vocal effects with your outboard processor since the new mixer has none built in?
The pre-amps were VERY noticeable, especially with the compressors connected, with the CFX I had to turn the output up on the compressor to almost 3 oclock, with the VLZ I had to back it down to 11-12 oclock. Very high gain & clean!
As far as layering effects, I use 2 outboards - a dual channel Lexicon MPX100 & an older Alesis Midiverb 3, for a possible combo of 3 different effects either layered or trailing into one another if desired as I run the returns back into channels rather than the actual efx/aux returns.
