I figured the Karaokescene tech forum would be a good place to network for tech types that may be interested in developing powered speakers exclusively for karaoke use. Keeping it in an open forum would greatly benefit the KJ community.
Of course finding available cost effective and reliable resources would be the ticket.
A good intro for Class-D amps can be found on wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switching_amplifier
Here's one on International Rectifier's site:

Take a look at Hypex:
http://www.hypex.nl/docs/UcD2kOEM_datasheet.pdf
They have a Class-D 2000W amp module which can be used used for a woofer or sub. Depending on how much power needed they also have a few other modules that can be used for mid and highs.
The second note here is using a switchmode power supplies. This will eliminate the use of heavy transformers.
Thirdly if check here you'll see an 18" sub rated at 2000 Watts continuous weighing in at a mere 9.3 pounds:

They make other light weight drivers as well.
All these features will tremendously reduce weight and size not to mention a reduction in power use as well increased efficiency which are of great value to KJ.
It's been a while since I chased this endeavor. I will hunt around some more to see what's else is out there.
