I have bought a Sunfly PRO 8 player, XR684 mixer, and some Peavey speakers. However Im having trouble setting it up. I have the player connected to an LCD TV which is working fine (graphic display no problems and disc plays).

I have two RCA cables (red and white) going from the PRO 8 to the Mixer, into channel 9 on the front. There are a number of options on the back of the unit but I have them plug into the left and right speaker section in the top left as you look at the back of the unit itself. I then have the mic into channel 1. I have two jack plugs coming from the back of the XR684 going into the back of each speaker.

This is a first time set up for me and although I can sing I'm crap with the technicals :-) So far I have some sound with channel 9 and the main control swtiched right up .. but the speakers seem to be hissing like hell and the relative sound level coming out in tmers of backing and music is relatively low.

I have gone through the software options on the player itself and have set LT/RT as the choice though there are others (including stereo, 5.1 etc). I have a spare S Video cable (yellow) at the back of the player and the player is connected to the LCD via a scart socket.

The volume level on the mic seems fine! infact very loud if turned up on channel 1. There are some other bits of Kit which are FX based but as of yet Ive not bothered even trying with these until I get some sense of the current kit :-) Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks

The RED and White RCA cables should come OUT of your player ( L R Channels) and into the front of the XR684 into the INPUT Red and White.

Out of the back of your xr684 should be speaker outs which you hook up to the back of your speakers ...seems correct

Turn on both units and adjust your volume MASTER and CHANNEL and you should be GOOD TO GO ??

Not to be too blunt, but have you read the manual?

((downloadable .pdf file)) here

You say you have "some Peavy speakers... are they powered? how are they connected? 1/4" cables from the outs on the amp (section 43 of the manual) to the backs of the speakers... I'm assuming you got a package set?

I can't find any information on the outputs of your Sunfly Pro 8, so I don't know what outputs are available. I will assume that you are lined out correctly on the Sunfly and you are lined into the "tape in" RCA jacks on channel 9 and have the volume turned up on that channel. From what you describe it sounds like either 1) your not getting enough signal from the Sunfly for the Peavey to amplify quietly or 2) possibly something is amiss with that input on the Peavey. The first thing I would do is check to make sure the "Mode" switch is set to Left/Right and NOT Mon/Main then make sure my cable is in good working order, then make sure I am in fact plugged into the "tape in" and if I still have a problem I would get a couple of RCA to 1/4 adapters and plug direct into another channel on the mixer. If after this you still have a problem I would look into what outputs are available on the Sunfly. Hey, we have to start somewhere.

Thansk fro the replies .. will have a browse through them and try to make sense of it. As far as I am aware the cables are wired in correctly and my current thinking is that it is something to do with the sunfly machine as everything else seems to be working ok - including the mic.

The volume is def turned up on channel 9 tho and the volume turned up on the mic, tho the sound level from the mic si far louder than from channel 9 (sunfly).

There are four outs on the back of the XR684 and a bridge .. I have two cables in coming out of the back and going into the speakers. Adjusting the channel and main volume does turn the volume up but as I say not to a really high level .. certainly nowhere near where I imagine it should be .. and theres a lot of noise from teh speakers too which sounds like hissing.

Knightshow I didnt have the manual with this set up however I will browse that .. thanks for the pdf .. much appreciated. The speakers just have two ports on the abck both of which appear to be the same .. and take a jack plug.

It would help if I could show you the way I currently have this wired so I might try to take some shots of this tomorrow and post them on here.

thanks for the help so far!

Did you check the mode switch (should be between the two Eq's)? Just for the hex of it turn up the monitor send on channel 9 see if that makes a difference. I'm just trying to figure out if all is set properly on the Peavey.

Which out are you hooked up to? You have the choice of monitor or mains. I'd hook up to the mains.

Hi guys ...

Many thanks for all your help yesterday ... I have found out that the problem is down to a fault in the machine and have been today and bought a new unit. Thansk to everyone who helped and offered advice here ... because the entire unit appeared to wbe working I had assumed it was me (lack of confidence eh!!) that was at fault.

So I should be up and running with it shortly.

I'll be back here though for a proper browse when I get some free time ... seems a really good forum with lots of friendly help.

If anyone needs any help with photography feel free to ask me as thats my real trade ;-)
