Now that I know I actually need a mixer, I'm looking for a component size mixer for about $100 for home use only. It seems like Audio 2000 has a better rep than Vocopro? Anyone know anything about their AKM701?

Thanks!

Audio 2000 has great products that have been test proven.

Sounds like a great starter

Boof:

I personally have not used this unit, but I do have the AKJ7050 mixer/amp and it performs well. The AKM701 unit should work fine for you. Vocopro mixers for home use should also be okay. Their bad rep comes mainly because of thier CD+G players which are not up to par for pro-grade equipment. Their players tend to garble graphics, are expensive, and there are concerns regarding reliability. Since you are looking at a mixer (not a player) for home use only, a VocoPro unit may be okay for you. However, chances are it will be more expensive than a comparably featured Audio 2000 unit and would not be your best bet.

One thing you may want to consider is a mixer with a key changer. It will cost a little more than a unit without it, but it my opinion, you need to have key change capabilities. Even if your inexpensive player has the function, it probably will not do a satisfactory job. The AKM7015 mixer has the key changer and costs just $20. more than the 701 at AceKaraoke.com.

If you really want to go basic, you can try and find one of those small Pioneer Ma-3 mic mixers on Ebay. They should go for about $30 but, do not have a key changer. Basically it has an echo control and mic volume. No bells, No whistles.

If it was up to me, I would go with the AKM7015 or similar unit.

Cheers

and I've got not one AKJ7000, but TWO. One for my professional rig, and another for my home unit, which is my 2nd system.

Anything Audio 2000 I've bought has turned out to be extremely durable and gives quality sound. I don't have the unit you mention, But I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
