Good day to the helpful folks of Karaoke Scene. I'm a newbie here and also to the karaoke scene. I saw another topic similar to this (http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=14839) but not sure if I should hijack it or to start my own. I chose the latter.

My question is, I just bought a new karaoke player that plays 3,000+ songs for my parents. I'm in the market to look for a system that serve as a Home Theater system, as well as plays decent karaoke, not just karaoke alone. From the other thread, mckyj57 suggested to buy a standalone PA (i'm not into this idea because i'm not sure how it sounds as a home theater system, plus, it's not aethetically pleasing in the living room) or the Behringer 1202FX mixer and MTX TP112 speakers. I guess with the latter, I have to get a decent receiver also, correct?

Also, what do you think of this package, the $469 Vocopro VPS-370 package? http://www.karaokecenter.com/speamp.html. I read the reviews for the receiver and it looks good. I have absolutely no ideas about the speakers. My price range is $500, or cheaper if possible. Again, I'm buying this for my parents, so it doesn't need to be superb or anything.

Thanks.

I suppose your parents aren't going to be really cranking it, it should be ok for them. I won't normally recommend anything that is 'built' for karaoke, usually underfeatured, lacks quality sound & overpriced. For that price, it may be worth the gamble. But no you do not want to use home theater equipment for karaoke.

You can buy the Sherwood -- a stereo at 110w/channel -- for $99.00. That brings the above to about $460.00. You might be better off with:

If you don't want superb, buy the VocoPro!

Seriously, like Lonman I don't recommend that brand. Not a lot for your money, and those mics are *terrible* (I know, I own one).

But in this case, if your parents are not technically oriented it may be the best way to go. Perhaps even something simpler and more portable like the VocoPro Duet or something.

Thanks for your quick replies. This may be a stupid question here: is it possible to hook up 2 sets of speakers, a PA set of speakers for karaoke, and a HT set for movies, into the same receiver?

I'm considering the Phonic Powerpod mixer/speakers that you suggested. Do you know if those S712 speakers are good for watching movies?

So I ended up ordering the one that mckyj57 suggested from Musician's Friend on Christmas day and it was scheduled to delivered on 12/30/08. UPS normally deliver my other packages around 5:30-6PM, so I figured that it's going to be the same time for this delivery. I checked the tracking online before I left work at around 4:30PM and it said that it was delivered at 4:00PM at my front door. When I got home, there was no packages left at the front door. I checked my neighbors and they said they don't have it, one neighbor even said that he received someone else's package before too.

So I started calling UPS, they said they can't do anything about it until Musician's Friend put a tracer on it. I called MF twice just to have them start the tracer process, which they told me would take 8-10 business days to notify UPS. Can you imagine 8-10 business days just to notify UPS of a lost package?

Apparently, I googled up UPS and lost packages, and I'm not the only one. Gosh, here comes the waiting game and the frustration. There goes my karaoke machine for the New Year, and it's probably going to take another month before I get any resolution on this issue. Will update.
